Joe Walsh 1987 accuses Arsenio of stealing his hubcaps, Halloween

Joe Walsh in a late night TV performance from Halloween 1987, with the band dressed up in costumes, including Ed Sanford (Sanford-Townsend Band) and pianist Victoria Theodore. Also features a brief interview with guest host Arsenio Hall (who, according to Walsh, may have once stolen his hubcaps) where he tries to revive his campaign to become President by revealing what he would (and wouldn't) do once elected. Pianist Victoria Theodore would later play on Arsenio's own show with house band the Posse. BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded between from 1983 into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on KZbin or online. Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads.
In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.

We did isolate a collection of Arsenio Hall Show music guests, but that collection begins in January 1989. We didn't isolate The Late Show , all those clips with the different hosts are in a big Live TV Music 1980s playlist - they'd be hard to search by date, but if you can tell me the guest stars, I can check. It would have to be a musical guest though, pretty much all the Late Show and Arsenio Hall Show clips are just the music guests.

Yes. It's called a talk box. It's a guitar effect. You can blow in them and even talk into them. Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, and Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi) were well known for using them. Mick Mars (Motley Crue) also uses one for Kickstart my Heart.

Basically the tube is attached to a tiny speaker in the box that is his guitar - so the sound comes out the tube in his mouth where he shapes the sound by "talking" into the Mic that goes thru the PA etc. 🎸🎤

Just saw this question..an explanation that probably over answers your question...the tube is connected to a mid/ hi frequency driver....not a typical speaker but the small round driver you most often see with a flared horn attached...anyway the guitar amp power that normally goes to the guitar amp speakers is diverted to the driver described by way of an A/ B footswitch and the distorted and overdriven sound produced by the driver travels up the tube and exits into his mouth where he literally shapes the sound by shaping his mouth...an echo chamber of sorts...that sound is then picked up by the vocal mic...also the diverted guitar amp power signal is split with a " power soak" which absorbs some of the power otherwise it would probably loosen most of his teeth. In this clip it looks as if he may have a dedicated amp for it ( guitar swap hint) instead of switching but at that time he usually used a setup as described...the driver was a 50 watt( i think) Eminar. a couple of years before this clip i worked on one of his smaller shows and his long time sound man walked me through it as he hooked it up. Most think that Walsh...Frampton and the few others send a sound down the tube....other way around.
