Top review as always. Totally agree that it is very pricy, and too heavy as well, nevertheless what a gorgeous looking car. I've never seen the M8 as an 911 rival. It's far too big and heavy for that. I see it more like an Aston Martin DB11 and Bentley GT rival, but much cheaper than those cars. That said, personally I'd go for the M850i, which is almost as quick (as a daily anyway), more comfy and far cheaper too.

Agree with a lot of what you said, super quick but not that engaging. The Pirelli tyres got me in trouble a couple of times,just awful in the wet. I got £20k off the list price with the dealer contribution and lost about £1100 a month in depreciation. Not sure I agree with the m4c comparison, one-off the selling points for me having come from an m5c was exclusivity. I saw one other m8c GC in two years, you wouldn’t get that same exclusivity with the m4c although granted there’s quite some delta in the price

Recently traded in my superb 840d Convertible in Dravit Grey for a new (and yes, heavily discounted M8 Convertible!!). I would have loved another 840d, but that is no longer an option. So in favour of an Xdrive option and no real chance of securing a build slot (and discount) for an M850i I opted for a brand new unregistered M8 with big discount. I chose another ‘8’ as I am struggling with the design/tech filtering on to all other BMW models. Less ‘drivers car’ and more ‘techie wet dream’. Can say that after 3000 miles I do enjoy driving something a bit rare and having many bad experiences with Porsche UK (a previous car) nothing would get me to leave the BMW brand except for one thing….BMW’s obsession with technology not driving!!! One thing I have noticed since M8 Competition ownership…….The reduction in a***holes hanging off my rear bumper, so thats a positive angle that was not covered in the review!!😜

I have the '23 M850i Conv and I like it better than the full fat M8 due to the slightly smoother ride (and much lower price). It is still a bit rough for a grand touring coupe. It is big and heavy but surprisingly nimble for nearly 4800lbs. Real world performance is no different M850i vs M8. I cannot use the full performance of the M850i so nearly another 100bhp doesn't matter on the street and who would really take an M8 Conv to the track? Coupe maybe. My M850i came with the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 5 RF tires, which are surprisingly good for a RF. It is a daily driver, and I have snows on it now. Summers going back on soon. I have had several other BMWs over the years, including a couple of M3s (E90). That was much more of a hooligan car. Far less refined, but also less isolated and the S65 V8 is a very entertaining engine. I agree the new M4 Conv is a better driver than the 8 but I cannot get past the face. I just cannot. BMW has gone in a direction I cannot follow. The 8 series price is silly for what it is - but I really enjoy mine. I like the V8 rumble. I like the specialness. It is the prettiest BMW out there now (which is admittedly not a really high bar). No surprise it is going out of production in 2025 and is not going to be replaced. The 8 series is going away (again). Not sure what my next car will be.... I agree, the P-Zero is nowhere near as good a the Pilot 4S. I had both on my Jag F-Type R and the Pilot 4S was a night and day difference over the P-Zero. Neither should be driven in the cold but the P-Zero is useless below 45 deg F (7 deg C). PS4 gives better ride, less twitchy, better grip (in dry and wet). I will be switching to it when I replace the Goodyears in the M850i. And I am NOT a brand ambassador for Michelin. But if Michelin wants to talk....... Excellent review, as always. Nicely done Joe.

Great review Joe, although I have to say I’m slight saddened as I had been looking at these for quite some time to replace my F82 M4. I always loved the idea of it being a bargain Conti GT and the used prices on these had really been catching my eye. I would never have expected it to compete with the M4 dynamically (although in reality a big V8 and soft suspension would suit most of my real world driving to a tee), but sadly it sounds like it doesn’t perform the GT role well at all. The fact that it was such a mild update, makes me think they are bailing on this generation and we will see an all electric flagship i8 in the not too distant future.

If the tyres are so important as Joe suggests, its a bit of a shame that the supplying dealer wasn't able to offer a set of Michelin's to help establish how much of the reported problems are down to the P Zero's and how much the chasis, etc.

Looking back, i was so lucky to order my M4 comp before the prices went crazy…i waited a long time…although they are become more available on the used market now, with discount i paid 82k for a fully loaded (excl the seats)…i remember looking at getting an M8 a few years ago but was told it will lose a lot of money so held tight…160k for a new one is crazy money…they will only sell them to company car owners..

It seems a lot of people are expecting the agility and feel of a 911 or even M4 in a car that isn’t supposed to be that. It’s a large, heavy GT car. Can’t have grand tourer comfort and 911 performance and agility. It does it’s job well.

Such a beautiful car. But I prefer the Gran Coupe variant.
@rykehuss3435 Жыл бұрын
If you got the money for this car, I'm sure you can get suspension on it that suits your needs. Ride too hard? get plushier suspension installed. What youre buying is the engine and the chassis, pretty much all else is customizable anyway.

Love the video Joe, but even as a die hard BMW fan you would have to be insane to spend over £160k on a Bmw and not go for a Porsche etc at this price point surely!

The 4.4 litre engines have a bad reputation for oil burning, and connecting rod bearing wear, mostly due, I'm sure, to the heat coming from the turbos causing the valve stem seals to dry up. Has BMW addressed this issue in this, the latest 4.4 litre?

Actually not disapointing at all. Its super fast its the best looking sporty gt on the market. You are guys to spiled. And price depends on land where is sold. Porsche 911 turbo s central eu price 240000 euros this is 190000. Its a masterpiece

@@JoeAchilles1 JOE with all respect i love your content, and do not know what kind of roads you have in UK but i do not agree its not bad at all and we in central eu do not get the smothest roads either. Its not audi rs level of comfort but to be honest an M car is not about that.

Great review. I unfortunately think BMW is going to discontinue the 8 series. That’s why they gave it such minor upgrades and no idrive8
@kaym7549 Жыл бұрын
They let themselves down on this car though. The only thing special about it is the exterior look and its m8 name. Interior is at the same level as a 5 series, mechanics pretty much the same. BMW should have went more extreme on this car! Make it feel like a super car that also comes with luxury! As a flagship should

It’s a good looking car, I just don’t think it looks special enough for the money especially inside. Performance is impressive, but when you spend this kind of money you really need it to be very special IMO. 160k is insane money.

Why even bother talking about depreciation? It's almost like you were single out the M8 Comp. I gotta break this news to you. ALL cars depreciate. The more expensive they are the more they depreciate. Nothing new.

I thought at the start of the video he was going to call out the elements of the facelift that constitute BMW calling this a new car? From what I can see it's a larger screen and very slight revisions to the headlights and rear lights.

I bought a 22 M850 for two main reasons: 1 Looks and 2 that V8. My decision was easy as there were no M8s anywhere and the M3/4 grille is beyond hideous. Everyone is allowed their opinion, but where I'm baffled by the reviewer is bringing up a civic while driving this is ridiculous. Like some synapsis misfiring, brain damage, mental disorder type of sht. Lost me completely after that.

The issue with used car prices especially from any BMW outlet is the high rate of interest, I’m guessing 90% of private buyers finance on a PCP, between 10.9-12.9% is just pushes it a bit too far to make sense

To my eyes, the 8 series looks like it was cribbed off the Ford Mustang. Also, the M850 seems like the sweet spot in the range - tons of power and, when you want it, a more relaxed drive.
