Krishnan Guru-Murthy sits down with James to discuss his life, the role of the media in modern Britain, how a lack of access to politicians could be sewing the seeds of a democratic crisis, and why he would be fired by Channel 4 if he gave his true opinion on Brexit | JOE.co.uk

He can’t defend the RDJ interview. Krishnan couldn’t even look RDJ in the eye in that interview. Asking tough questions is important but continue on asking a man about his intimate private life when he politely made it clear he didn’t want to go that route was rude and insidious. If Krishnan was honest he was say he was looking for a reaction.

Krisnan feels that the RDJ interview is not a fair representation of his long career, but not knowing anything else about that career, I decided to watch this interview... What did I come away with? That Krishnan, distracted by the controversy he discusses inadvertently refers to the assistant who brings an extra air conditioner as "the flunky". This tells me everything I need to know.

MrTeatwosugars The interviewer is much much better. He allows this fool to speak and learn why he is so bad at journalism. Started cocky at 18, suffered with racism, was pressured to become a journalist to flee his father. But he wanted to be an actor so he hates those he have made it like Robert Downey Jr. and on drugs. Poor man badly casted for a profession such as journalism.

Thank you for the prompt to see the Tarantino and Corbyn interviews. (I had already cringed through GM’s embarrassing RDJ interview. First it has to be said that Corbyn comes out of it magnificently. He disciplined GM. How on earth could people ever say Corbyn was weak. Overall take-out: all three interviewees are more intelligent than GM and deserve a better interviewer. GM has an unerring instinct to find the trivial aspect in any serious issue. It is obvious to anyone why you would open a meeting by welcoming as “friends” any parties who are willing to sit down at the same table and work towards peaceful solutions. The only remaining mystery is why you need to brown-nose someone who is not a’fellow-journalist’. You are in a different league to him, mate.

Channel 4 News is by far the best UK TV news, and Krishnan is the best thing on it. John Snow is definitely showing his age and is now screwing up on a regular basis. Cathy Newman is also hot to trot, I could imagine her hosting Newsnight.

I'm not entirely convinced Krishnan comprehends the reality he painstakingly analyzes everyday. A nice, happy go lucky, guy who seems to have had a nice life. He's a good interviewer but can be unnecessarily bullish and slightly immature at times. Other than that he's alright really, then I've never seen him in a bad mood...

I think he's likeable, he's not soft, or too conservative. There are a lot of journalists that are uninspiring, whilst he doesn't fit into that category, I don't think he is "special". There are plenty of interviews I'd find interesting, having Krishnan as part of the equation isn't a "dream ticket". At least not for me..but good interview.

The idea that the BBC was not biased on BREXIT is ridiculous. Surveys show that commentators invited onto BBC programmes are heavily weighted towards people who oppose BREXIT. The tone of most BBC presenters is also clearly hostile to BREXIT. Recruitment at the BBC newsdesk is clearly based on the circular argument that 'we represent the views of the British people. Therefore, to represent the views of the British people, we need to recruit people who think like us'. What is astonishing about this interview is the lack of self-reflection of the two men talking. KGM even admits to having met a large number of people who told him they were going to vote for BREXIT. He still thinks it was perfectly reasonable for him to be shocked at the result. A good journalist accepts the evidence he finds; he does not reject it. Both KGM and JOB were also surprised by the breadth of support for Corbyn, yet they never try to understand why they were surprised. It never occurs to them that their wealth and income insulate them from the hardships that many people are suffering. Finally a bit of advice. If you want politicians to come on your show, stop sharing the same political agenda as the main political parties. Paul Dacre never struggles to get politicians to come to see him at the Daily Mail. That is because the Mail has a different agenda to both the Tories and Labour. It is a nuisance to Tory and Labour Governments alike and the politicians feel that they have to do whatever they can to change its reporting.

What don’t you understand about ‘Kuenssberg’, James? She re-edited an interview to make it seem as if Corbyn said something he didn’t. The Board of Trustees found her guilty. And you say Corbynites have been “unpleasant” to her. Aah, diddums! She should have been sacked because what she did to our BBC was worse than ‘unpleasant’. You both prattle on about restoring trust. That horse has bolted, mate. ‘The Canary’ is only one of many worth beneficiaries. Despite the good work the BBC does (Attenborough, Match of the Day, etc., the Kuenssberg thing made me cancel my licence fee. Other than Kuenssberg, Maitliss and Newman, Guru-Murthy is now an awful anchor and a lousy journalist - and if you can’t see that, you’re too close to it.

I agree with the replies, also in connection with Tarantino. In one part of his rant he said something about "This interview is about promoting my film." Excuse me the fuck? YOU want to promote your film, the interviewer wants to get interesting answers for the viewer. They're not there just to serve your commercial interests. If you're used to them doing that there's something wrong with entertainment journalism in the States... which is itself hardly news to us.
@DagmarSLNY
@DagmarSLNY 5 жыл бұрын
@@MatthewMcVeagh No there's something wrong with your sense of journalistic ethics. It's not the United States, it's a worldwide and understood standard even if you lack the capacity to understand that when cast and directors do interviews for a movie premiere or run it's strictly for promotional purposes. This guy isn't being "edgy" or "cool" as an investigative journalist by going off the rails with his line of questioning, he's just being a self-absorbed douche bag who is way out of line.
