It was only just yesterday afternoon that I'd read he'd contracted the Coronavirus and now this afternoon I'm just hearing that he's passed from it! Talk about shocking and so very, very sad as I used to listen to him a lot growing up as he was a fixture on the CMT television channel (back when it was still worth watching) and was in regular rotation on country radio stations (back when they were still worth listening to). Rest easy Joe and my sincerest condolences to your loved ones.

Heartbreaking Loss. When you come across his music, you don't even realize that you know every word to most of them. He was a staple in the country music industry and one of my favorites... May god bless his family, friends, and all those who mourn his passing.... If the Devil danced in empty pockets... he'd have a ball in mine... that sure has been the truth a time or two...

We kept CMT on whenever we were home. Some videos were just OK, some were great (Ms Lorrie Morgan comes to mind), but a Joe Diffie song usually led to some dancing. Thank you, Joe, for happy memories. From Fort Smith, Arkansas - just down the road from Tulsa.

May God rest Joe's soul. So many memories of my younger years of listening to Joe's music on 650 WSM when I was coming back from work in northern Wisconsin on U. S. 51 / l-39 making the drive fun. Then stopping into the former Starlight Ballroom (now U. S. 10 west) for a soda and listening to my friends sing his tunes on the jukebox and sometimes afterbars taking my friends on the boat on the Wisconsin River singing his songs listening to WSM. A lots of precious memories of the 1990's thank you Joe! God Speed.

I remember I couldn't find this video for quite awhile. It kept coming up as "not available for viewing in your country"(USA) for the longest time. Glad it finally got put up to be enjoyed once more. I recall seeing it back in the mid 90s on CMT. The dance routine by the crooked salesmen never leaves my head. Rip Joe. Stay safe and do your part for his memory.

The video for “If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)” features Joe Diffie performing the song in front of a bar and then in the bar itself, with some fun shots of a crooked car salesman dancing outside. It’s a classic country song with a fun video to match. The CD, “A Thousand Winding Roads,” was released in 1990 and features 10 great songs including this hit.👍

Country singer and songwriter Joe Diffie passed away on March 30th, 2020 from complications relating to the coronavirus. He was 61 years old... Joe Diffie was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1958, after high school he attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. Prior to pursuing a musical career he worked as a truck driver that pumped concrete in the oilfields in Alice, Texas, and then later as a foundry worker... Between 1990 and 2004 he had thirty six records on the Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, sixteen made the Top 10 with five* reaching #1, "Home" for one week in November of 1990, "If The Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)" for one week in June of 1991, "Third Rock From The Sun" for two weeks in September of 1994, "Pickup Man" for four weeks in December of 1994, and "Bigger Than The Beatles" for two weeks in uary of 1996... One of thirty six charted records was a duet with Mary-Chapin Carpenter {Not Too Much To Ask", #15 in 1992}... He won the 1993 Grammy Award {along with Mary-Chapin Carpenter} for 'Best Country Collaboration' for "Not Too Much To Ask"... May he R.I.P. * He just missed having three more #1 records when his "If You Want Me" {1990}, "New Way (To Light Up An Old Flame)" {1991}, and "So Help Me Girl" {1995} all peaked at #2 on the Hot Country Singles chart... Personal note to my fellow Americans, 'Please stay home'....

All they play is that new crap they call country. But anyway I pulled up the song and saw the eulogies and was blowed. Man RIP brother Diffie.
