How does he play these songs so perfectly live? Studio is one thing, but live is unbelievable.
@fukenbiker3 жыл бұрын
Years ago Susan and I saw several concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. Other highly polished well practiced musicians that play perfect live are the Eagles (rip Glen), Eric Clapton and Stevie Winwood, and at other venues we saw Bob Seger, Van Hagar Halen, and at the Greek Theater was Chickenfoot where I finally got to see "Satch". They all play 'perfect'! Edit: Joe Bonamassa is also another one who plays perfect live.

Exactly. Not sure I’ve ever seen a guitarist play incredibly technical parts this perfectly live as consistently as Satch does. He’s one of a kind. His mastery of the guitar is up there with the greats. He fucking owns that instrument.

Those finger tap arpeggios convinced me that this man is an alien, absolutely amazing. He gave us a clue naming an album "Not of this Earth". Fortunately his species is not here to harm us but just rule over the electric guitar.

Joe is a great song writer. But Vai’s avant guard style is miles ahead of the field.

i agree , Vai's style is miles ahead. They both have perfect mastery over their playing, and over the effect pedals.

I have no friends that I can share this joy with - in fact - if I told them I loved the mystical potato head - they would laugh at me and say WTF - but to me, this is absolute magic - ill take this (and many others) to the grave - ill continue to dedicate my limited free time to listening, playing and enjoying this weird music that no one likes. but thanks to the internet - I know I am not alone :)

Every. Single. Note. and. Harmonic... played perfectly. Impossible.... yet Satch pulls it off. Unbelievable. No way is he human.

What I have always been amazed by - is he plays this stuff live and it is nearly exact to the albums - BUT actually played - LIVE. Playing stuff with 20 takes in a studio is one thing - but reproducing it LIVE - perfectly - in a stressful situation - while running around and relying on pedals and for everything to go right - your strings to not break - your instrument to work etc . . it is absolutely amazing. His skills are insane.

I remember reading in a Guitar World magazine interview many years ago that Joe doesn't play TMPHGT live because of the complex arpeggio part and that he struggles with the stretching of the fingers. Ive never seen him play it live but this was the 2nd best thing! Such a master! I love Surfing but Flying in a Blue Dream transports me to somewhere I cant explain. I got the cassette when i was 14 and have been mesmerized by it ever since.
@chasbader3 жыл бұрын
After all these years he nails it.. Still amazing. Bought the cd, bought the tab book, saw him in Anchorage from the back of Egan Center but this tops it ALL... To see how he actually gets those sounds to come out of that piece of wood is truly not of this earth.

I love how Joe can sell out big arenas just playing guitar. Sofa-King jealous. Its because his guitar instrumentals are so beautifully melodic, and composed to make you, yes, you, feel good. And to create such music, is a special gift. And Joe keeps on giving like no other!

I love the ending at 5:03. Joe sneaks in a new harmonic color. The band is playing a regular E major chord, and Joe plays E phrygian but with a major third (or A harmonic minor if you look at it that way) over it. He uses the ambiguity of the plain E major chord to fill in the blanks with whatever major variation of E he wants. Genius!
