Hey, I commented on your previous video but I thought I'd drop a comment here too: I was the guy that donated that DSL to Elliot, I am so glad it ended up with someone with the patience and skill to fix it. I just wanted to take a crack at upgrading the shell as a learning experience/side project. I managed to upgrade the shell on my GBA SP just fine, which is why I had the spare lens also. I mainly enjoy making old consoles look brand new by deep cleaning/replacing the housing etc rather than fixing technical issues which is why I decided to sent it to TRF. I really appreciate all your kind words about the job I did swapping the shell over too. It's nice to know that with the exception of it not powering on, I was on the right track! Subbed and looking forward to more content. All the best!

Thankyou so much for the oppertunity to fix it my man! Really appreciate it. So glad we could get it working, and we think it was down to the WiFi module being slightly loose. Welcome to the channel and thanks for the sub!

I don't think anyone can be sure of the issue, but I am 99% sure the IPA didn't fix it. My best guess, considering it was working before the shell swap, is that a cable wasn't seated properly. I've never watched your channel before, but is there a reason for the gloves? I see this practice all the time on KZbin and don't understand the need, especially those soldering with vinyl gloves, that would be a burn that keeps giving.

I’m not at all a techy person but worth commenting here. My ds lite was dropped one day a couple years back and never turned on again. It still gives me the orange light when I charge it, i think we bought a new battery for it a long time ago as well but that didn’t help… would taking it apart and cleaning it help?? When I shake it, it makes a rattling noise almost like a tiny screw is moving around in it. Like I said, I dropped it one day and it never turned on again, so something maybe went loose? Any idea how to fix it? I miss my pink ds!

The wifi module has come lose from the motherboard. Its a very easy fix. Buy a triwing screwdriver 1.5mm and a Philips 002 I think and you are ready. The part is just push in.
@ToxoRetro4 жыл бұрын
Just an idea Joey, and I may be entirely wrong. At about @7.00, the black wired WiFi snap-in connector looks slightly raised (it may just be the lighting). I've heard (not from my personal experience) that if either the WiFi or microphone connectors aren't in right the console refuses to turn on. Maybe it was a tiny bit of dirt - no harm in trying. I guess we'll never truly know. 🎶Insert X-Files theme here🎶

I had a very similar issue with my DS lite charging, but not turning on since 10 years ago I think? I tried fixing it myself back then, but sadly couldn't find the problem... Until recently when I gave the ds to my young niece to play with it, since it was broken for years and I gave up hope long ago. One day she dropped it on the floor and suddenly the ds just turned on?? I seriously couldn't believe my eyes, but there's a reason why one shouldn't ever say never lol It only turned on for about a minute, but it's still better than nothing I guess This incident and your video gave me hope, I think I might look into it again :)

If i had to put money on how you fixed it I would say it was down to you removing the wifi/bios module and reseating it as the fault at the begining pionts to that not been connected next time you have one apart remove the module and try to power it on and it will replicate what happened in this video. The flashing green light was down to lid been closed so was in sleep/rest mode. Great video really enojoyed watching it
@JoeyDoesTech3 жыл бұрын
Thankyou for the insight John! Yeah the WiFi module removing/putting back on was probably the fix for this. I also considered the fact that the cables weren't seated correctly, however Macros wouldn't work if that was the case :) Glad you enjoyed!

@@JoeyDoesTech Yeah those cables not been seated properly wouldnt have affected the unit turning on as the macro wouldnt power on either as their completley removed. Hey. Just because your multi meter beeps, it doesn't mean you have continuity through the fuse. You cant rely on the beep for component testing. It can get continuity through another component in the circuit. Without a schematic the only way to test the fuse is to remove it and test across the terminals and check the value is correct.
