I had to comment... This is the BEST STP cover band I have ever heard! I remember when you guys submitted your audition tape. My favorite comment was the guy that said "hire the entire band!!!" John is a good rock and roll singer who had a very different look- that to me is refreshing. Tired of cookie cutter, fulfill the expectation, fit the suit, singers. STP has been my favorite band for many years. I've seen them 7 times over the years and I've taken a lot of ridicule from my friends for following a "different" band. I'm a 53 year old fat, Black guy from Toledo, Ohio who according to them shouldn't know who Stone Temple Pilots are, but I've never been one to follow trends! John, if you ever read this, in my opinion, STP should have chosen you to fill the lead singer's position, you are clearly qualified...I think that you didn't fit their image of what they wanted in a lead singer... and that's SAD! Nothing against Jeff Gutt, but now I really think STP sounds more like a cover band than you guys!!! I would pay good money to see you guys in person! Do you do the casino circuits? If so, I hope you guys come through Toledo, I'll buy a ticket! Keep rockin, John!

I remember checking out this guy's vocal auditions for STP. I was certain it'd be you to get the spot as a lead singer. Jeff Gutt came out of nowhere, as they proclaim as well. It's a tough decision on who I'd choose between the two of you. You're clearly more rock and harsh, in tone. Though Jeff is amazing as well, in his own ways. I'd pay to go see you guys live.

I was with John in the actual audition at Studio 606 (Foo Fighters' studio) in Hollywood with Dean, Robert and Eric. Needless to say John aced the whole two-hour audition but I feel sad that none of the footage from the audition week has ever surfaced. Being the new lead singer for a band like STP requires more than just being a songwriter/singer. Given their timeline during the cattle call and their intent to drop a couple of singles and a full album while tucking their new singer to cut the record, it was virtually impossible for anyone remote from LA to be a shoo in for the band. Anyone who needed paperwork to legally migrate into the US to be their new singer would impede anything they had planned if their goal was to tour starting early 2018, given that they opened auditions in March of 2017. And that is our story, but it was the time of our lives.

In all honesty weiland was pretty rough before he died..in his time he was really good..never had super highs really but that wasnt his deal anyway..he had a great voice and 1 cool presence..those albums in the 90s that stp made especially the 1st 2 were masterpieces..after vr contraband he started losing it a bit i felt..anything he worked on after that, be it vr stp aoa or solo seemed a bit bland and his heart wasnt in it. He was just trying to get paid those last years.

This sounds nothing like scott..its a great cover tho..but thats why he wasnt picked im sure..scott could change his tone from his harsh low end baritone like this or eddie vedder to a more glam rock nasal sound..to be a current stp singing contender u needed to be higher bc all 4 guys had evolved from the core era..not saying thats right but they did everything to show those 1st 2 albums werent all they were about..ud have had a better chance trying to karaoke the beatles b4 your submission as opposed to dead and bloated or wicked garden..that wasnt even in the realm of the style they wanted anymore
