I trained with John Carmack at Burt Becerras. He is legitimately a good dude on and off the mat. He can definitely handle himself . I was a novice in judo and a blue belt in BJJ, at the time, John could give me and several guys in the club run for our money . He's legit.

Growing up this guy was an idol for me, he made Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake. Always he was the mastermind behind the id Tech game engines used in those games, and whenever his company id Software released a new game, it was mindblowing because it presented you with something you never seen before, he was pushing the technology forward to new heights. He is a wizard coder, and wrote amazing game engines and renderers. Then later he gave back to the community of fans by releasing the source code to the game as open source.
@FusionC63 жыл бұрын
It was his decision to allow modding in ID engine games. Everyone else on the team was opposed, but later on said it was one of the best things he could have did.

This shit has been studied in great detail and, sorry to break it to you, but there is a high correlation between people who are popular in high school and those that become successful later on. John Carmack is an interesting cat. I've known about him for a long time but didn't know what his personality was. He is like the uber-nerd that conquered his social inhibitions and forced himself into scenarios that were more difficult, to learn and become more well-rounded.
@dadthelad3 жыл бұрын
Yeah don't know about how you've stereotyped him. His dad was a TV presenter, and he was sentenced to juvi for a year as a teenager for breaking and entering (by creating an explosive) and stealing some Apple computers. So I don't know about the social inhibitions and so on that you're imagining, presumably because he's a computer programmer.

Cuba produces lots of judokas, wrestlers and boxers. The reason is that is free and every other kid wants to learn how to defend themselves. Bullying wasn't as big an issue as in other places because fighting at school wasn't really punished. Our parents knew of our fights becasue we told them, not because the teachers told them. One day a kid who was like 5 years older than me was "bullying" me, which for us was really more like "asserting dominance" and my ant wouldn't let me in the house until I beat the guy (who is like a brother to me) with a pipe. Well I din't beat him but made him run a little. He was laughing all the way but understood that I was scared enough of him to beat him with a stick or pipe. I wish here in Canada kids learned more martial arts.

@electriceyeslide59593 жыл бұрын
FusionC6 He’s pretty small. I used to do some boxing and I have seen little guys beat the shit out of big guys. It comes down to heart. There are little guys who punch hard and big guys who don’t. You can be big enough to where a shrimp like Carmac can punch you until he’s blue in the face and it won’t phase you, so don’t sound ridiculous with “size don’t matter” stuff because at a certain point it does.
