I would love to see an 8R 410 come into our yard. It would have to be one of the best row crop tractors released in the past decade. Unfortunately the prices of machinery are so high now. You would have to put a good 1000 hours on per year (at least) to justify the upgrade. The price that you mentioned was about $1M NZD. That is ridiculous for a row crop wheeled tractor.

Great video, as always. I really enjoy seeing the reviews covering both the tractor and the implement. It seemed like this farm has both the 8R 410 (with dual wheels) and the 8RX track version of the same tractor. It would have been interesting to see/hear from the operators on the difference of the two in pulling the same implement. I'd also like to see reviews of other implements (sprayers, planters etc) in future videos. Thanks for this 👍

That 8rx pulling that ripper is the optimal setup. You have provided a video already a couple years ago why tracks are advantageous over the tires and you see that once again. I would love to see a cab ride with the 410 using the EVT transmission with command pro to see how well it performs.

I have seen several 8RX 410s arrive at my local dealer the past two weeks with tags showing them going to farms I film at. They are replacing 8RX 370s. The reason the farms got the 370s because they had IVT and the 410s had power shift. I suspect all the new ones are 410 EVT. I should be filming an EVT 410 during corn planting. The farm in this video was demoing the 8RX 410 you see at then end to possibly replace 9Rs.
@armchairgeneral7557
@armchairgeneral7557 Жыл бұрын
@@bigtractorpower that would be awesome. Comparing putting power to the ground with IVT and EVT would be interesting. I know EVT is quieter and has other benefits. But putting power to the ground is what I am most interested in. After all, that was the main reason they have stuck with power shift transmissions in the past.

@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower Жыл бұрын
This red clay soil is very tough to sub soil after two crops in one year. You have two combine passes, two grain cart passes, two planter passes and 7 sprayer passes. If the tractor begins to lose progress they ease off the ripper and bury it again once progress speeds up. There are spots that even a 640 hp will come to halt in.
@mythreesonsfarms

Actually, it would be the draft system on a John Deere, they suck.

@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower Жыл бұрын
When they hit a highly compacted area and the tractor starts to spin they ease of the 14 inches deep until the tractor pull through. The ground can be really tough. If the tractor struggles to pull through imagine the corn trying to grow through that area next summer unripped.
@leonardpetherick
@leonardpetherick Жыл бұрын
kind of defeats the purpose thats the exact area they need to rip… those tractors are not heavy enough if they have to lift out a 14” ripper in my opinion… but great video Happy New Year BTP

Does the track tractor slip at all pulling that ripper? Looks like some hard ground there or maybe a little muddy where the operator had to lift the ripper.
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower Жыл бұрын
In spots the 8R slips and struggles to pull through. Over all it has the power and weight but this sub soiling is a though pull on wheels or tracks. The tracked models in the field do not slip but they slow way way down on the hard pulls.

Great video! I notice the tractors having to take the rippers out of the ground a lot honestly thats going against the purpose of ripping and I don't think those tractors are heavy enough! Those tractors should weigh at least 30,000 lb and should also be able to be weighted heavier than 40,000 lb! I've seen A. Challenger 1042 doing the same job now. I know that soils are different everywhere, but that tractor never had to take the ripper out of the ground! I personally think John Deere is too big of a company not to have a bigger fixed frame tractor! But then again in my personal opinion I think. John Deere 's are not as heavy duty as other manufacturers and they haven't been for years! I personally don't like them!

Id expect better efficiency through less road time by putting the tractors in different fields. On the other hand, might get better speed with the competition of 4 machines in the same field. One things for certain, sure looks cool with 2.5 million dollars of machinery tearin up a field!

@bigtractorpower Жыл бұрын
Most farms in this area run 18 inches deep 915 v-rippers. I said 18 on the video because I guessed it was the same. I asked the farmer after filing and he said 14. The brochure shows max depth it’s 16 inches on a 2100. A 915 will go 18 inches easy.

@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 11 ай бұрын
It’s not sitting the depth control it’s the amount of compaction that they’re hitting, and the resistance from the grain carts. This field was harvested in June as winter wheat, a second crop of soybeans were planted, and then harvested in October. The field was sprayed seven times from January through August. It had two sets of combines on it and two sets of green carts as well as two planter passes. Lots of compaction.

@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower Жыл бұрын
For this area in rolling ground the sub soiling works well. You might notice spots on the slopes where they left it unworked. The goal is to break compaction from the 2022 corn season and the 2023 wheat and soybean crops on this fields. It has two combine and grain cart passes this year plus 7 sprayer passes. The ripper breaks the ground underneath but leaves the wheat straw and soybean residue. Next spring they will no till plant the field into corn.

This field was in wheat in June. They harvested with a Shelbourne header. It harvests just the grain and leaves the straw standing. Soybeans a double cropped right into the standing straw. After the soybean harvest you have a thick straw mat. It pulls up in places but they will just no till plant corn next spring without any other passes. It could either be issues with too high of compaction, rocks, or a high erosion area they don’t want to wash out. Or your talking about the end rows which they probably do later after turning around.
