Just received my 2015 x590, a new member of the John Deere x500 series of lawn tractors. It is currently equipped with the weather cab and the 47" snow blower.

In the case of thick hard snow, blow high first, than low and it will go a lot easier.

Thank you for the review! I look forward to your follow-up once grass cutting season is in full swing.

Thanks for watching. It is a weird time of year to get it... too soon to mow, too late to do much with the snow. I did easily clear some big piles of snow from the plows at end of my driveway. My old walk behind blower never would have been able to do it. I'll add a follow-up in the spring.

JAKE3914 thanks! It has been worth every penny so far. Especially in the winter.

I sat in one of these tractors with that cab on it and the cab is extremely cool looking inside with lots of room. That cab design should sell really well. Great videos

The pto clutch will last a lot longer if you idle the tractor down before engaging it.
@DavinDesborough7 жыл бұрын
Yes, good tip. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@4gauge106 жыл бұрын
Captainpegs07 I own the X-534 version of this tractor and I was going to say the same thing.I always engauge the P.T.O.at idle to save the electric clutch and to keep the"shock"of engagement low on the P.T.O.belt as much as possible. I couldn't help but notice his gas tank was almost empty also on the gas gauge. I personally like the articulated power steering a lot better on my X-534,with the 48"deck the turn radius is only 14"inches.

I can’t do that on any of my equipment! Not enough power! You have to be at half throttle at least to engage the pto running a mower deck on my entire fleet of Deere! Everything from the Z920m to the 3039R.
@4gauge104 жыл бұрын
@@deereman8237 Then you'll be replacing thousands of dollars worth of parts very soon($$$$$$),something is binding if your having to do that.I've operated the 3039 and I never had any problem with starting the shaft driven P.T.O.at idle,then powering up.

Cant seem to find a john deere X590 2015 model on their website. Highest they go is x540

Hydraulic lift looks good..If you push the thrower all the way down will it lift the front tires off the ground?
@BHShaman Жыл бұрын
Hydro on these do not have any lift power. Basically up and down to stops. I bought a used X570 (not much choice up here in NE) and added Electric Lift. Get at least some down pressure when needed.

Great vid, need to put some wheel weights on, they make a big difference even just mowing the yard, you won't ever spin a tire with wheel weights.
@DavinDesborough6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment! I actually have plate weights mounted on the back (you can see them behind the rear tires). The extra weight is needed for traction and to counter balance the blower.
@raykrv6a7 жыл бұрын
Not much different then my X540 from 2008. i've not had any problems with my X540 and I love the big blower. The power steering is great. I love it. How much was the enclosure? One thing about JD, they may be expensive, but you get quality. I also like having a watercooled engine. Plenty of power and lasts a long time.
@DavinDesborough7 жыл бұрын
I had actually set out to buy a 540, but the dealer was out of them and the x590 had just been announced. So, I purchased it instead. I believe the enclosure was about $430 or so. Expensive, but it sure is nice when the wind is blowing. Have fun this winter!
@MDC20209 жыл бұрын
Thinking about buying one of these, but in your honest opinion is the X590 really worth the money?
@DavinDesborough9 жыл бұрын
My Damn Channel I can't really say yet. I only have about an hour on it as it has not been snowing and it is way too early to mow. My initial impressions are that it is built with far better materials than my old tractor (a simple yardman, so not exactly a fair comparison). My hope is that this tractor will last many years of year-round services, but time will tell. The new fuel injected engine and adaptive cruise control were elements of my decision to buy this model. We'll see if it pays off. I need a heavy snow before I can be sure, but I expect to save at least an hour, if not two in storm cleanup. That is certainly something to consider. I imagine the mowing will be a little quicker too, but the deck isn't that much bigger than my old mower. In short, I could have purchased a lesser machine, but I plan to work it hard through 4 seasons and was willing to spend more to hopefully get a machine that will last longer in that scenario. Even with that said, it is a bit of a luxury purchase. I had set out to get a 540, but that was discontinued an this model introduced. When I weighed getting one of the lower 500 series or going up to the 590, I decided to splurge.
@pek6759 жыл бұрын
Do you know if you hold up on the pto button and go in reverse it will not shut off the blower? Also when you are mowing you will have to do the same thing when you go in reverse or it will shut off the mower deck too.
@DavinDesborough9 жыл бұрын
The PTO is the same for any attachment, so, yes, you have to hold up the PTO button if you want it to stay engaged in reverse. This is one safety feature I could do without. Thanks for watching!
@justinkleinschmidt54498 жыл бұрын
+Davin Desborough You can override this safety feature with a simple little jumper installed in the wiring harness under the dashboard. Makes for a much more fluent and effortless snowblowing/mowing experience! Search google and you'll find info on it.
@DavinDesborough8 жыл бұрын
***** I figured there must be some mod like that available. I may look into that once I start snow removal this year. There is a lot more reversing in that mode. That said, I have sort of gotten into a rhythm of briefly lifting the PTO level as I start reversing (no need to hold it once you start reversing). Thanks for the tip and for watching!

How many weights do you have on the back
@DavinDesborough8 жыл бұрын
+Myrna Vashaw I have three 40 pound plates. That is enough to counter-balance the blower and provide extra weight for traction. Thanks for watching!

I also have this exact weather cab for my JD X300, with a 47" snowblower. I noticed that you (didn't) have your hood in the weather cabs side pouches! Where you aware of that? I can send you a short video of how it should be if you want. Please let me know if you want to see it.
@DavinDesborough5 жыл бұрын
I shot this literally about 30 minutes after it rolled off the dealer's truck. I did figure out the pouches later on. Thanks for offering though! If your video is uploaded somewhere, feel free to link it here. I think I show how to insert the hood properly in my later videos Thanks for watching!

Do you know how tall it is with the snow cab on from the ground to the top of the cab?
@DavinDesborough7 жыл бұрын
I don't have the cab on anymore, so I can't give you an exact measurement. My garage door opening is roughly 6' 11" and the cab just makes it in. There is about a inch or so of clearance, so figure that the unit is approx. 6' 10" Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@mikepoff67127 жыл бұрын
that's fine thank you for your reply. do you still have the tractor? if so do you like it?
@DavinDesborough7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have it and I still love it. It has power for everything I need and it has had no issues so far. The snow thrower has been worth it's weight in gold, and it is heavy! :-)
@mikepoff67127 жыл бұрын
ok ty for your time. I'm looking into getting one just trying to do all of my research. I am also looking at a snowblower. it's good to hear thanks!
@3820jack4 жыл бұрын
You mentioned about the foot room with enclosure. If you have big boots on it is difficult to get the pedals. You say that you no longer have the enclosure. Is there a short why? I'm not impressed with this. I had a metal cab on the last machine. Much better and much more expensive! I have an X500 and dislike because there is no hydraulic lift or power steering! Looking at X580 - X590.

Do you find that the chains are really necessary or no?
@DavinDesborough6 жыл бұрын
I did not use the chains last winter as a test. It worked, but it was also a light winter. There were definitely times when it was slipping trying to push through deeper snow. If there was any significant ice, then they would really be needed. I will probably put them back on this year as people are claiming that this winter will be bad. I would say you are better off with them unless you live someplace that only rarely gets heavy snow and ice.
@sly92636 жыл бұрын
Thanks- I'll get them then. Assumed they might not be needed looking at those tires and thought the dealer was just trying to add shit on.
@DavinDesborough6 жыл бұрын
I sort of thought that too. The tires are nice and aggressive, but aren't going to help you on ice. You get a little bounce if you dive fast with the chains on, so keep you speed reasonable. Thanks for watching!

the throttle cable stuck in fast pos. any help?
@DavinDesborough8 жыл бұрын
+bill wimbish Are you asking about a x590? If so, then there is no throttle cable as it a "throttle by wire" system. If you look under the throttle lever, you will see a connector with a few wires. I would try wiggling it a bit and pushing it back in. Perhaps the connection is bad. If you mean that the lever literally won't move, then something must have gotten in there and jammed it, or you got a bad lever assembly. In any event, any x590 is still a new machine and I would get it to the dealer ASAP and get it fixed under warranty.

How’s the 590 holding up?
@DavinDesborough6 ай бұрын
It's great! Still going strong with nothing but routine maintenance. I do use it year round too. The only thing that is worse for wear is the mulching insert. It probably needs to be replaced, but it is plastic, so I guess that should be expected. It should be noted that a lot of my mowing is under a powerline right of way that bears more resemblance to a pasture than a yard.

Yeah, it's not the least expensive option. So far, however, it has proven to be a tank and does everything I need it to do. Thanks for watching!
