Lyrics:
This is a call to the color-blind
This is an IOU
I'm stranded behind a horizon line
Tied up in something true
Yes, I'm grounded
Got my wings clipped
I'm surrounded (by)
All this pavement
Guess I'll circle
While I'm waiting
For my fuse to dry
Someday I'll fly
Someday I'll soar
Someday I'll be so damn much more
Cause I'm bigger than my body gives me credit for
Why is it not my time?
What is there more to learn?
Shed this skin I've been tripping in
Never to quite return
Yes, I'm grounded
Got my wings clipped
I'm surrounded (by)
All this pavement
Guess I'll circle
While I'm waiting
For my fuse to dry
Someday I'll fly
Someday I'll soar
Someday I'll be so damn much more
Cause I'm bigger than my body gives me credit for
Cause I'm bigger than my body now
Maybe I'll tangle in the power lines
And it might be over in a second's time
But I'll gladly go down in a flame
If the flame's what it takes to remember my name
Yes, I'm grounded
Got my wings clipped
I'm surrounded (by)
All this pavement
Guess I'll circle
While I'm waiting
For my fuse to dry
For my fuse to dry
Someday I'll fly
Someday I'll soar
Someday I'll be so damn much more
Cause I'm bigger than my body
I'm bigger than my body
I'm bigger than my body now

Yes. We try our best to find a sound and I might make it mine and tomorrow I might hate myself, and tomorrow I might not be the same, but the music lives on, and the sun is still shining. So I might just hate myself Tomorrow. I might still never accomplish my dreams. But tomorrow I will out play em, out yell em, out shine them. So who's the man? The sun is still shining. And it ain't over.

Plot twist: it's actually John's speaker and nobody noticed except that one girl Don't stop chasing your dreams it doesn't matter if only two people or no one believes in you. You'll fly and soar someday, show them what you're capable of and you're more than what they think of you.

it’s a vibe for sure… first heard this song in the car as a 6 year old kid, the nostalgia hits hard for sure. my mom was a huge mayer fan and would play room for squares and heavier things in the car whenever we’d run errands. but it wasn’t until my teenage years where i rediscovered mayer and i’m so grateful i did.

Heavier Things brings me back to such a happy time in my life. I was working a crappy job with no future. I had nothing to my name and zero idea what lay ahead of me. But I had great coworkers, I was meeting the most diverse people, and was having the time of my life. I’m feeling very nostalgic lately. (I do love my husband and children. But sometimes I temporarily miss the carefree days).

This sort of pop is something you just don't see today, you just haven't seen for a long time! It's so sad to be honest. John is ridiculously creative in this song. The effect is amazing! Exceptional to be honest! The lyrics are fantastic and extremely inspiring! As much as i like to see John evolve, i will always have a speciel place in my heart for Room for Squares and Heavier Things, it's just two pop albums that exceed so much out there, truly plays with the imagination of a great songwriter

Here's how I see it: A lot of people have something special about them, and a lot of people might notice these traits, but they don't really see the person, just what they create. But sometimes someone will come along and see past that, and see the person as well as what they do, and put two-and-two together...and wonder why no one else sees it.

Why yes. Yes it is. Though if you want to be metaphorical, it's easier to convey the "perfect person for you", in a music VIDEO, as an attractive one rather than trying to display their character and make you see them as perfect through that.

Amazing how this kid never stoped to grow up and became one of the greatest songwriter, lyricist, guitarist ans most versatile artist of all time. He explored a lot of styles in his career and he’s now super famous and one of the greatest musicians of his generation. But however, it’s 2022, JM is keep working on his sound, creating new kinds of things. Feels like this man will always be bigger than this world gives him credit for. Always very moving to hear him singing this chorus!

John Mayer did not write a song about other people adoring him, at least not this one. This is a song about adoring oneself which means that I appreciate my immediate self and I appreciate other people/things around me, which are an extension of my self. This is a song that transcends the desire to be noticed and admired and adored by others. This song is a song about personal empowerment. The adoration/admiration happens as a side effect of being such a beast!

Always a fan of John Mayer. He's very talented, despite his lovelife. Can't wait for his new music.

Lone Star Wanderer Exactly right mate. Because if that's true then that would make Pink Floyd ancient, and Elvis fossilized. Both of these artist are old. Elvis is very old which would make 90's music relatively dated. But 11 years is not old.

The 90s are definitely old, the 2ks? debatable. in the next decade, the 2ks will be old for sure.

John Mayer is maybe the best pop writer of all time. This era for him was absolutely flawless. These songs are so much better than he gets credit for. Or what his body gives him credit for lol

I gotta tell you... I feel like they really missed out with this music video... it has this ONE awesome moment where he starts to float... but imagine if in the end when he went to the speakers if all the sudden he just rose up above all of them, and they suddenly realized that he was the source of their adoration... Not in like a godlike or powerful way... in a way that was similar to how it happened before, but even higher, and higher... Then like... I donno, something else amazing happened.
