John is at his peak rn. He has absolutely snapped. You can tell he’s not playing just to show off anymore like he did towards the start of his career. He plays to feel now. I know his best is yet to come, especially now that he left Columbia Records.

@@omarsaletovicprins9632 You know what I’d agree with that. I think he’s definitely mellowed out more. I don’t think it’s because he can’t anymore, I think it’s probably an intentional change. He seems to go through phases.

Well one should also take into account that during the JM3 tours and the Live in LA shows, he was touring to promote two albums which showcased his guitar playing abilities. I think that he doesn't want to be known as simply a guy who can shred on guitar, just like he didn't want to be known as a pop musician. If you take Sob Rock into consideration, it is definitely not as heavily focused on his guitar abilities (although songs like Wild Blue have some truly great playing on them), so perhaps he was trying to keep the shredding and such to a limit so he could showcase the newer songs and not have such a wide gap between songs where he's just mindlessly shredding in some and then laying back playing something simple but fitting for the others. Just my two cents.

@@omarsaletovicprins9632 tbh with this version of gravity in particular the tone is waaaaaaaaaay too clean, i still like it but i want much more distortion/od on that final solo

@@todorkerev1707 Jesus Christ, you realize that if he meets your needs sonically, then somebody else complains that it's not clean enough. The internet has brought us more information and art than we could have ever imagined, while simultaneously destroying our ability to just shut the F up and enjoy an experience. Everything has to be judged and criticized as if it were an Olympic gymnastics competition. Everyone has an opinion on how they think everything should have been, instead of just enjoying what you got. It's pathetic.

After attending 4 of his shows and each at different venues.. this by far is the best overall, he was feelin every song and in turn we all felt it.. he wasnt just playing to get through the song and onto the next, he truly delivered. Amazing and memorable show.. he played almost every song of his we all wanted to hear. Not to mention his voice was on point.

Beautiful. People want it to sound the same same as the first studio album version, but that ain’t the point of live music. I’ve seen JM perform this tune live 3 times (2008, 2013, 2017) as well as the Continuum and Live in LA versions, and it’s always different, and it’s always beautiful. In ‘13, at Milwaukee’s Summerfest, when he broke into the first line of the song you almost couldn’t hear him because every voice in the amphitheater was singing with him. One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard in my 69 years. Every person who loves this song owns a little piece of it, and I love how JM keeps it fresh and alive for us.

In direct opposition to most of the comments thus far, this is certainly not johns best work. His “Live from LA” in 2008 version of this song as well as “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” were absolutely his best work to date. He’s 14yrs older now and he’s starting to show the middle-age version of music where you don’t quite hit the notes as good or as hard as you used to but, you still got the talent! His tone is all upside down from back then, he’s gone soft as compared to his younger an stronger performances and it’s showing in his playing. Come on John snap back and really show the audience how it’s done and really show your skills, if using your skills is showing off then so be it don’t let the hype allow you to slow down man!!!

Outstanding playing, no doubt about it but to my mind the prs guitars can’t nearly reach the tone of Johns 1964 sunburst Stratocaster, especially on these tunes from the 2000s. Still sounds very good and enjoyable. Maybe it’s just my taste of sound.
@JamesWilliams-en3os

It’s not so much that he switched to a PRS here… he is using more bridge pickup than neck pickup (compared to the audio version) and a different pedal mix. So much more to his tone than just the guitar. I just bought my first PRS a couple months ago, and my Strat and LP are now gathering dust… not forever, it I get why JM made the switch.

To each their own, but the PRS has something vintage Fenders just could never have, and there is absolutely no way he sounds better on a different guitar than he literally designed FOR himself. These aren't Big Dipper pickups, but that's because PRS designed these pickups for him to be better. They're literally they're own proprietary design, not re-wound Fenders. So, again to each their own, but just so you know, you're wrong and sound ridiculous. It's literally impossible to sound better on another guitar. This guitar is him, so...
@mayumi1603
@mayumi1603 2 жыл бұрын
@@msgoines You can't say he's wrong. It's his opinion.. I also think his tone with Fender was better, despite the whole "designed for himself" thing with PRS. It's like you said, to each their own. There's also the fact that John still used his Fender after "signing with PRS" for quite some time. That means it took him a while to get a tone with the PRS he was okay with.
@JamesWilliams-en3os
@JamesWilliams-en3os 11 ай бұрын
msgoines… it’s not so much the guitar here that changes the tone cf. the studio version… he is using more bridge pickup instead of the neck pickup here. Also different pedals. But it’s mostly the choice of pickup.
