+lemmy999 Uh, he's over 60 years old. He's had tons of hit songs. How fuckin long is he supposed to be on top of the music scene? He was huge, and can still fill anywhere in the world. And I'm not even a huge fan. Stupid fuckin thing to say.

He deserved to be treated with respect and she chose to not do that. He was right to handle her the way she came at him by walking away from her and didn’t play into her game. Well done, John.

Look like John Mellencamp was very professional about that you could have been very rude so he showed her who's in charge you don't treat your guests like that he washed his hands and left.

That was smart of John to walk off. He didn't lose his cool. He didn't rag on her. He didn't turn around and criticize her when she yapped a micro aggression to him as he walked off the set. He just got up and left. Good for him.

I actually saw him in October 1982 in Boulder, CO, when he was the opening act for Jethro Tull and then The Who. Unfortunately, that wasn't his crowd. He got booed from the start, put on a quick show and finally stormed off after 30 minutes, visibly upset - just like in this video. Oct 1982 must've been a rough month for him.

That was normal for anyone opening for The Who. On the same tour in Toronto, Joe Jackson bailed after 30 minutes when he got hit with a hot dog. The review noted that The Clash only lasted 25 minutes the week before in Buffalo.

I used to like John. I liked him a lot! I remember American Fool coming out. Great record with several more to come. I am a 54 year old musician. I started playing clubs not too long after American Fool came out. I dont push my opinions on the people who come see me play. Yes I am still paying clubs not arenas, but I would NEVER WALK OFF the stage because the people dont want to hear my political views. Shut up and play the music the people spent their money (and quite a bit) on to hear. This insnt the 60's when bands were preaching peace and love against a war that pretty much everyone but the government knew was wrong. You are different than me and that is a good thing. I dont think like you dont expect me too. I will still listen to your music, but when you walked off the stage like a spoiled child, you took the respect I have for you with you!

The same questions coming from anyone other than that condescending AA hire (getting right in his face btw) would have been dealt with as always. But he was in a lose/lose situation, because she was probably just on the edge of pulling the race/woman card (and probably did later). He made the right move and probably learned a good lesson.

Unless he was embroiled in some controversy I was unaware of, I don't see why she's being so aggressive and confrontational. Is she just trying to make something out of nothing to make a name for herself? If he wasn't doing anything illegal, what the fuck is her problem?
