Few comedians seem to realise that one of their vital gifts needs to be LOVABLENESS. I can sit through all kinds of our (British) comedians and I don't even smile. a) their material isn't very good and b) they are not even nice people, let alone lovable. In John Mulaney's case (only recently discovered by me) I find myself laughing the moment he appears. Bear in mind that a number of US references I don't even GET. Why is this? All kinds of reasons, but a main one is that he is so charming and downright lovable. His material is beautifully crafted and prepared and the way he delivers it is full of surprises that force you to THINK. We like being required to ponder what he just said.....
