Said „I‘m not that rich....“ and giggles, next the Petrucci bluescreen of death - ahhhh, I like that kind of humor and authenticity! As usual, great vid and I’ll give it a try. Keep up the good work!

Good idea, but i believe that is more realistic and cpu economic to set the cab to stereo and give the 7ms delay to one of the cabs.

Good review on the Delay, But still I didn't think that it sounded like petrucci use very often... Cuz he keeps his delay to dotted 8th note

I don't have axe effect, In my delay it shows delay amount from 1/1 to 1/32 D It has a mixer in it too It has low,high and pan too So can u tell me how can I apply the 7ms delay in my daw? I mean what setting should I apply Cause there is no delay vst mentioning the time with me
@GurtejSinghGuitar
@GurtejSinghGuitar 4 жыл бұрын
Which DAW are you using? Most DAW's would allow you to offset a track by a few milliseconds. You can duplicte your guitar track (or double take it), and then apply the offset to one of the tracks and hard pan them left and right, that could be one way to do it. Of course, there could be other ways to do it as well. Hope this helps.

I did watch your studio tour, and I’ve watched many Fractal presentations. I try this at home without an Axe, but I think the concepts are identical. Your rear panel is marked output 1 and output 2, with each having a left and right. That’s four outputs, and your Axe Edit has four ‘lanes’ or channels. It appears you are outputting on the R channel of output 1. There is a USB connection on the rear panel as well, so that may create 4 channels of inputs in your DAW environment, as well as the Inputs on your audio interface. These should be selectable within your DAW as audio source. These will be mono, but occasionally your DAW will try to define them as a stereo channel, coupling together 3&4 for example. With this set of variables, I cannot determine how you’re getting signal into the PC, so I had a nervous viewing experience. As I listened, I saw one channel going out of Axe edit, but could only imagine what happened next. If we interpret the article, John took a single source, pushed it left and had a duplicate pushed right offset 7ms. That says nothing of the delays applied after that. If you create a patch with an amp/cab block then add the mixer block to split your L+R, you need 7ms on one side straight away, then a stereo delay after that, output into two output channels, output 1 L+R. The way I would create this at home is similar. I would record my amp, the SM57 on a speaker would come into the interface and I would select it in my DAW. This mono signal can be panned left and right, so I would need a second source, panning one left and one right. Now that I have two versions of the same signal, one of them receives a 7ms offset. Both of them combine in a stereo send to effects, a stereo delay, which is mixed against the source. This creates a wet and dry recording, quite easily, by recording the two sources as well as the effects returns. Most important for you, is make sure you have both L+R patch cables in the rear of the Axe connected to your audio interface. I listened closely, and you said this is how you’re connected. You should then wire parameters within edit to both of those outs. That’s where the fun begins. Having two outs let’s you process left and right as special purpose audio, and this ties in specifically with my recent Q&A with Leon. When we create recordings, referencing our heroes from youth, often a band like AC/DC has two guitar players, and some of those recordings sound like they’re live, you can hear Angus on one side and Malcolm on the other. Studio magic! Or is it?

The Theory of Everything, a film about Steven Hawking, played while I typed and revised this comment. Wife put it on and we had lunch, discussed our commitment to each other, as she stayed with me during my six days in ICU getting my face reconstructed. The tracheotomy made it impossible to speak, because no wind crosses the vocal chords. I felt helpless, and would have died if she wasn’t there with the doctors and the hospital staff making sure I was treated correctly. I thank her for my every day. My second chance. ❤️ ya GT. -Jim (and Kerry)

Thank you so much Jim for watching my videos in such detail and commenting in such detail as well. You are right, in a way I should have been more clear about my setup right away. Apologies if that was placed in a confusing way. Sometimes, I focus so much on the tone, I miss out on the minor details, which can be important. Glad that you figured it out from the video later. Yes, I am going stereo out from the Axe FX (Balanced). So two cables running out of the Axe FX and going into input 3 & 4 (yes, you got the numbers even right :) ). And as you guessed it, I am coupling them as stereo in my DAW. Beleive it or not, this was my first video with a stereo setup, as I wanted to do this video the right way. And I just love the way it sounds. Specially on headphones. To be able hear ping pong delay actually do the ping pong delay is sweetness!. And yes, you are right about the delay. I think Petrucci uses delay in post (in studio in the DAW perhaps) and not really have a similar setup like mine. But I really wanted to see how close I can get to this kind of a sound with the delay present in there. I think a lot of people have already pointed that about the delay, and I think that's fine. That's the beauty of the Axe FX, it can always be switched off. Hope you and your family are keeping well and safe. My wife's incredible support is one of the main reasons I can do this! I know what exactly you mean. It must have been a very tough time for you. I am glad to see you all well Jim. Cheers and keep rocking!

but your not actually adding a 7 ms delay between the speakers and your delay repeats allot, his article clearly says he adds no echo or repeats to the sound and the speakers are 7ms separated from each other.
@GurtejSinghGuitar
@GurtejSinghGuitar 3 жыл бұрын
There are two delays added here, the second delay block that I add is what creates the 7ms delay between the left and right channels. The first delay is a generic delay for a solo tone, which obviously has repeats which you'd expect in a solo tone. The second delay block has no repeats and is set to exactly 7ms.
