As a guitar player with a profound understanding of the instrument. Sir John absolutely understands that guitar of his. All of the knob changes and the nut bends. Watching him completely play that guitar while singing is true mastery.

No need for rhythm guitar when John Sykes is in your band. Speaks volumes. A legend. Wish he'd release material but if he doesn't he has literally NOTHING TO PROVE to anybody. I will say this in closing. I was abused as a young child through to early teenage years & John's music pulled me threw. I owe him my life. Thanks, Mr. Sykes.

The sound is from the Bad Boy live Cd, it's been overdubbed onto this performance. If you look there is a version of this with the original sound.

The lyrics are certainly similar in style to Johnny from Johnny The Fox but when I first heard the Blue Murder album back in 89 the first thing that came to mind was that I could see how much he had influenced the Thunder & Lightning album. He's been in the wilderness for far too long. We need some new Sykes material.

As a tremolo picker, I always thought I was never really that technical. I saw it as a brute force technique and beat myself up over it. But to see Sykes do it with such skill is inspiring.

Yeah, you can definitely tell this is overdubbed, as there are plenty of pick slides, dive bombs and such that he clearly doesn't play here. Disappointing. Still sounds incredible.

I love Sykes….. though he picks from the elbow kinda…. And never uses his pinky on the fretboard. I grew up listening to Al DiMeola as well, and he is so precise with alternate picking from the wrist. Anyway, how Sykes does it is unbelievable really. I love the ‘87 album and Blue Murder. Coverdale blew it.

@thefonzkiss5 жыл бұрын
His so called BS was getting upset when Sykes wanted to throw Coverdale out of his own band and bring in another singer! No wonder he was let go. Sykes is his own worst enemy.
@SRVaughan1003 Жыл бұрын
WS is coverdale’s band, Sykes would know that having signed a contract as a player. He could never be thrown out of his own band, not then not now. That people still use this bullshit point to slag Sykes is ridiculous as it defies basic logic. It really was DC bullshit, as in his mind, he could get players to play for less money and he didn’t need to split merchandising, as the split from shows and other royalties he got a bigger share because of it. What he didn’t realize is that he fired his best ever writing partner
