The Vienna Game (1.e4 e5 2.Nc3) is a potential options for players who want a King's Gambit experience without exorbitant risk. In this game, my opponent invites a typical Bc4xf7+ tactic, and I translate this advantage into a dangerous e+f pawn duo in the middlegame.

Really shows the value of strong initiative when John's bishop is hanging for 5+ moves and it doesn't matter because he can keep making stronger threats.

Thank you for your kind words! To give you a serious answer, I think the frequency is possible because 1) I'm motivated by all the positive feedback and messages that my videos have helped people, 2) I'm earning some decent ad revenue with the channel's momentum in the past couple months, and 3) I can decide to stop posting so frequently at any time (sounds funny, but the power to walk away is important). I'm certain this sort of daily pace is not sustainable, but it's working for my lifestyle right now, and it's a lot of fun! So, I'll likely continue for the foreseeable future.

I play bishop c4 on the regular in e4 e5 so it's nice to see d4 straight away instead of the Giuoco piano and Nf3. I'm definitely going to give the Vienna a try. Thanks to the Architect :)
@XPLAYERJX
@XPLAYERJX 5 жыл бұрын
You don't have to play the Giuoco Piano out of 2.Nf2. You can play the Scotch 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 Scotch is 100% sound opening. I, personally, play the Ruy Lopez. I, sometimes, play the Aggressive Lines of the Italian Game. 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 d5 5. exd5 The people I play are rated 2000+. They don't blunder 5...Nxd5 allowing the Fried Liver or Lolli Attack. They play 5...Na5 which is best move, but the position isn't fine for white. White position is 100% playable. It requires a lot of theory, but both white & black has great winning chances. The other line which can arise is Evans Gambit. 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Be5 4. b4 There is a lot of aggressive lines which can be played. There is a lot of positional lines which can be played as well. It offers a lot for everyone.

Nf3 is the top move against 2...c6 but d4 looks to have the best results 68% and it's the top computer move, f4 is close behind d4 as the top replys based on win%

c4 was quite purposeful imo. I mean, it does block the bishop's control of f1 and gives the rook on a1 a great purpose.

Fischer wrote “a bust to the kings gambit” saying it loses by force and then later went on to play it 3 times winning all 3 games :) It’s probably the best opening to learn attacking and defensive skills. Rapid development and piece coordination. Also extremely fun to play! Maybe unsound but as long as you don’t play the way Kasparov tried (move 3 Nc3!😂) it is not easy to play for either side
@XPLAYERJX
@XPLAYERJX 5 жыл бұрын
The line Fischer gave as the refutation still gives King Gambit players problems. I have played it from black side. I haven't ran across any information on how the King Gambit players counter it.

The danger of relying on engine moves in analysis for lesser players. If even a strong player like John has no idea why a certain move is chosen by the engine even after being shown the lines then such a reliance can cause faulty conclusions by players not as strong. Seems like not such a big problem but avoiding thinking errors caused by such wrong conclusions is a big key to improvement in my opinion.

Sorry I’m late but hopefully you see this! Qh8+ is met with Qf8, so it’s not mate, but I don’t see why 1. Qh8+ Qf8 2. Rg8 is a worse continuation. I guess because after Rg8 the king can run to e7 or d7, but you’re winning the queen and it should be easy to chase down.

I assume you mean 12.Ng5, threatening 13.Qf7# on the next move. Black is not obliged to capture the knight, instead he can deflect the mate with e.g. 12...Qe8 and kick the Knight away with 13...h6 the following move
