Gunns statement about working with Cavill in the future feels like damage control to me. Cavill's statement feels much more final and somber. The dude was walked all over by WB for the better part of a decade. Wouldnt surprise me if he didnt want to return.

I have half that feeling but I also half believe it is possible, considering it seems they've been working on getting Ben Affleck back involved in directing something and keeping Jason Momoa around even after they wrap up this version of Aquaman. It wouldn't surprise me if there genuinely is an effort to keep talent around in some ways even if they're doing a hard reboot across-the-board

It must be hard for Cavill. When you look at his entire career, he has been the 2nd choice for nearly every significant role he auditioned for, like 007, and now his Superman for the past several years. I honestly hope either Disney or even 007 gives him the franchise status he deserves.

I’m not talking fans, but you could say the same exact thing for Chris Evans, who was in two fantastic four films that were not great and everyone said why are you hiring this guy who already played Johnny storm. Then he was Captain America, and people saw what he could do and they moved on. I think the same thing could happen with Henry, I also hate that everybody typecast him to be a superman like character. He can be so much more than just a Superman like character. I actually feel like that’s a disservice to his talent, that that’s all people see.

If you pay attention to Henry Cavill's performance in The Witcher, you'll realize that he could actually make a pretty great Batman maybe even better than Superman. He checks the list, he's got the voice down, imposing physique, the perfect chin, blue eyes & Raven locks , i say fans should push him & DCU for that role, make it a thing

The #1 problem with the DCEU was that it felt rushed. There is no way we as a viewing audience deserved an "Infinity War" tone so early with BvS. The killing of Superman wasnt the payoff anyone wanted, even if I agree it was a damn good movie. But the DCEU didnt earn it. Superman faced his arch enemy in his first movie!! An enemy who wanted to destroy Earth! And by the 2nd movie, Superman died at the hands of an alien monster?? I hope they learn the mistakes of the past, because an extended universe needs the world building before destroying said world.

Check out AngryJoe's reaction. Not only is he a big Superman fan he also makes good points. The one that I forgot is that about a year ago Gunn literally did an interview with EW and, plainly, said that Superman, JL are not fun to write about. Here we are a year later and hes writing a Superman film. Gunn said he has been for a while. Probably once became head of DC studios. I dont know what to make of this. But I do believe the DC universe needs a reboot. Whether that means recast them I wouldve gone either way. Dont matter to me. Its all about making good films. But I do wonder if Gunn writing a Superman film is because 1) he wants to give it a shot, or 2) he has no other choice. I've heard comparisons that it will be Spider-Man-esque-like, taking the MCU route. Or this is just a building block to have an actor for it the next ten years. I have an image of Superman based on the comics. Lets just say its not like Spider-Man. I dont care for Superman. But for the hardcore faithful, like AngryJoe, they do make some good points.

I watched that AngryJoe video. Frankly it’s all in the name, the guy’s angry and he’s lashing out. That’s fine. It does echo fan reaction and it does its job in that respect. That said other than "expressing anger" I personally could barely find a point that made sense in his rant. It’s rambling and it’s fine but that’s all it seemed like to me. As any logical take on this it was frankly retarded for the most part. Idk what Gunn will do with Superman and DC but I’m pretty sure him cleaning house is due to the dumpster fire that the DCEU is right now. @@kylexile87 | Yeah that’s why I said "barely a point" cause there are a few things of note in the Rant. Though that’s basically it. The most noteworthy thing he says from what I recall is that if they keep other DCEU actors/characters around then that would be hypocritical. And the answer to that question is pretty obvious isn’t it? Unless I’m messing up the timeline which is possible, a year ago he wasn’t head of DC Studios so writing a Superman film would’ve been pretty limited for him most likely. It would probably be MoS 2 or some version of the current DCEU Superman whose last canonical appearance was Josh Whedon’s Justice League though that was such a mess execs at WB tried as hard as they could to pretend it didn’t exist. Today as head of DC studios these limitations are obviously gone and moreover he’s coming at it from a completely different angle. I have no idea if he’ll screw it up or not but there’s nothing particularly dumb about it so far. It seems relatively sensible.

Yeah a Reboot is needed, DCEU/Synderverse was a critical and financial failure. Hopefully Amazon Prime gives him a better deal than WB and Netflix gave him with Warhammer 40k adaptation.

I'm sorry guys, but I completely disagree with you. The DC Universe could have easily moved forward with Henry. He wasn't the problem. The problem was a lack of cohesion, sloppy scripts, and no clear plan. Marvel set the standard. They also laid the blueprint. The one character you CAN NOT get wrong is Superman. They had that one piece in place. Just because you're moving to a new house, doesn't mean you throw away all your furniture, especially the most comfortable bed you've ever had, that's no longer being made. Yes eventually you move on from an actor playing a character, but do it how Marvel moved on from RDJ...cinematically send him off. RIP Superman...now about to watch decades more of horrible casting...again

I am not so optimistic with Gun running the show. Yeah Suicide Squad 2 was a critical success but was an abject failure at the box office. Don't wanna hear about the excuse of the movie being released during the pandemic because No Time to Die and No Way Home did well during that time period. Coupled with the waning interests in Super Hero movies as a whole, this reboot could very much fall on its face before it can even start.

I’m afraid this is going to kill the audiences faith in getting invested in anything DC releases from here on out. What happens if the Gunn directed Superman releases to 5-600 million at the box office? Will we get another knee jerk reaction from the execs and scrap that universe too? I am having a hard time trusting anything DC puts out enough to really become invested as much as i love the characters. And I’m surprised they didnt talk about how much of a misstep it was to have Cavill announce his return to the role a couple months ago just to have those hopes taken away again.

I’m surprised they didn’t mention what this could signify for Dwayne Johnson. As a big fan of the Black Adam film, I was disappointed it didn’t perform better in theaters. Seeing WB giving Cavill the boot just two months after Dwayne Johnson spent weeks promoting his appearance in Black Adam makes me believe we’ve seen the last of Johnson in the DCU. I’m betting we’ll be seeing a similar statement from Johnson saying he’s had a meeting with WB, and he won’t be back. As a big fan of Johnson and Cavill, this is very sad news. But, I’ll do my best to stay optimistic for whatever we see next in the DCU from Gunn & Saffron.

MCU's films have underperformed and they don't course correc their entire film slate. DC messed up the moment that they made BvS for the mere purpose of addressing the complaints about Man of Steel. Marvel would've kept it moving and just focused on making a better sequel. But WB panics and brings in The Fixer (Batman) along with the entire JL, Doomsday, Lex Luthor and your grandmother. So, Cavill gets not only sidelined, but killed in what should've been his sequel. Why? Too much studio interference and not enough creative input.

Not only is the Black Adam mid credit scene with Henry Cavill a meaningless tease, there goes the pointless task of watching the films yet to be released: Aquaman sequel and the Flash. And it's safe to say without Henry then there's no Dwayne Johnson Black Adam sequel that he wanted. And it flopped. I don't know why Henry put on the costume without signing another Superman picture, he was told he got it in October and he was the most sought after actor from Witcher, Superman and James Bond, and now it looks like he has none. WB did him dirty, HC looked like he lied to his fans for months and now he lost the job. He could have gotten to play 007 & had work lined up for at least 10 years. But his luck has changed so suddenly.

Im guttered Cavill isn't returning as Supes but I appreciate the way James Gunn and Peter Safran are handling this especially in meeting with the actors in person. I blame the previous wb regime Toby Emmerich and Walter Hamada for their mismanagement of Henry Cavill and Superman.

After watching numerous videos about this, I find it interesting that *John Campea, Robert Meyer Bernette* and *Grace Randolph* (from Beyond The Trailer) all understand films and the film industry and insider information. Yet it is *John Campea* and *Robert Meyer Bernette* who showed sincere compassion and respect and honor for *Henry Cavill's* role as *Superman* and his departure from the role. In my opinion, these are the reasons why I wholeheartedly respect *John* and *Rob* way more than *Grace Randolph.*

Honestly the entire DCEU didn't ever *feel* like a proper main-line DC storyline. It felt more like a particularly big and flashy Elsworlds continuity. That doesn't make it bad, but it always felt like the characters were a little off from who they should be. That doesn't have anything to do with the acting performances as much as the writing and direction. Honestly, the films would have done better if there were a set of films where these actors got to play versions of these character that were closer to what we expect from the "Platonic ideal" of Batman, Superman, etc. first, then market these films as an "Earth-2" or something in relation to that. Snyder set a tone and put things in motion in a way that just didn't quite jive with these characters and what we expect from them. No subsequent film was able to course correct away from that, and I'm not sure that was even possible. Hopefully Gunn and co. will do better. It sucks, because even if I wasn't the biggest fan of the movies Cavil was in, I think he's a near-perfect pick to play Clark Kent/Superman. I would have loved it if they could have kept him, but this is probably the right choice.

I fucking LOVED Henry Cavill's Superman, as well as Ben Affleck's Batman, Jason Momoa's Aquaman, Ezra Miller:a Flash, and especially Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. They all brought something actually unique and awesome to their roles. Now, firing Miller? Essential. Replacing Batfleck and Momoa? Painful, but okay, I guess. But replacing Cavill and Gadot? DUMB AS FUCK. The DCU could reboot entirely with the Flash movie, and the same actors could carry on with the same characters from a different reality. The old one is gone. There's no reason AT ALL not to do that. And if they're truly wanting a fresh start and they don't cancell all three films set for 2023, they're just shooting themselves in the foot. "Look how great these movies are! Look how great these actors are! Give us your money! And then totally forget about all this and instead love a whole new batch of actors in these roles!" Jesus, what sheer idiocy. The stupidity just boggles the mind.

You can't drop the baggage of the old DCEU without replacing everyone. There are parts of it I'd love to cherry pick to keep, but at the same time say they kept Cavill as Superman fans would get very confused thinking their Superman is the same Superman from BvS. It's too late to change the Flash movie to establish a rebooted universe. They will release the last few movies that are already too far along to back out of. After they release they will advertise the new universe they want to build. As a DC comics fan I'm super excited to see what these guys do.

And since we don't know what's in The Flash, since reshoots with additions & subtractions seem to happen constantly, I think they could do exactly as I suggest. If they release Blue Beetle, The Flash, and Aquaman, WB is just going to compound the general public's confusion and make us online nerds even angrier by giving us a year-long taste of what might have been but now wont--both being things one would assume WB would seek to avoid. Yes, I'm eager to see what Gunn & Safron do, but I also will probably get angrier all year.

I enjoyed Henry in the role…so I’m not happy about him not being Superman anymore. However, I understand the reason for it. Gunn/Safran walked into a situation that requires them to make hard decisions. That’s what they’re doing…and they’re doing it with class. Meeting with him in person to tell him is a great way to do business. It suck right now but I think it’s going to be great for the future of the DCU. I’m very optimistic.

I disagree with Rob a bit. BvS didn’t leave me feeling down. The world was reacting to Superman’s existence in such a skeptical and realistic way, and Superman finally proved himself to be the world’s hero in the only way he ever could. That felt so real and profound to me. Besides, we all knew Superman was coming back somehow.

No matter how you feel about the movie they still did a bad decision of killing Superman at the end of the movie killing him in Bvs is the reason why Superman is barely in a Justice League movie because they spend half of the runtime figuring out how to revive him.I dont mind the realistic take on the movie on how people react to Superman thats the best part for me that Bvs world feels real and realistic but theres alot of bad parts and bad script that the movie has

Rob made a point about how the movies didn't live up to WB's expectations financially, and I think that's a huge problem that isn't brought up enough. They expected these movies to be massive hits without doing much, if any foundational work. Just like Disney with Star Wars, they put out stuff they didn't understand and then over reacted to criticism again without actually understanding why they were being criticized. The leadership there assumed that big names made big money without acknowledging that the movies themselves have to be good, which involves hiring the right people around each project. Their uselessness is a big part of this mess imo, if they weren't scrambling for a new studio head every 3 days and instead had put in someone competent and insulated from the beginning, they wouldve had a lot more success up till now

Campea as always trying to play both sides " SHOCKER " WB has treated Henry with nothing but disrespect for a long time and actors / actresses have got to be taking note of all this . Gunn said in an interview that he had been working on a script for a new Superman movie for a while after less than a year ago saying he had no interest in it . They have Henry announce he is back as the Man of Steel and get him to do the cameo in Black Adam knowing the whole time they had no intentions of ever using him again . That is what Campea calls treating him with respect , Wow he has a warped way of looking at things .

If I was Cavill, I would never return to WB, it is run by morons. Cavil literally did everything they ask of him and just hung him out to dry. I can tell you right now, I won't be watching anymore DC non-animated movies mainly because the whole studio is indecisive with their products. Basically, they want us to invest in their product but as soon as it isn't doing what they expected they just yack the rug under you as an audience. Maybe instead of trying to catch up to Marvel, maybe it is time to actually sit down and actually look at your product closer and see what it actually makes these characters special. WB replacing actors to cover their short comings just tells me they have no real clue what they are doing.

If I were Cavill, I’d never want to work with WB again. The man gave them his body, heart and soul, and they trampled all of them with every opportunity, on every turn. With the money he has now, he should probably go the Robert Pattinson route, and focus on smaller projects that will respect him, and where he will be able to showcase a range that he wasn’t allowed to showcase in the bigger IPs.

Henry was fantastic as Superman. Sad to see him go. Hard act to follow for sure. Also gonna miss Amy Adams who was a great Lois. I was really looking forward to seeing Superman vs Black Adam but what can you do 😢. Fingers crossed the new DC universe is great. Gonna miss the old guard.

The thing with Cavill’s Superman is that it was a product of the now abandoned Snyderverse. Having another filmmaker coming in and keeping Cavill would’ve felt a little strange because it would’ve been a tonaly different Superman and not the one from Man Of Steel. I think they looked at what Feige did with Spider-Man where that franchise already had an actor that many fans liked but they still chose to just start over fresh with a new actor and director.
