Build a fence, now. Strong fences make good neighbors. I would NOT tell the school my personal info, just tell the guidance counselor the minimal amount of info. As someone who was a mandated reporter, I made a call to the child abuse hotline along with the guidance counselor who immediately gave out my name to the parents! It did not go well. Just give them the kids name and say what he said, DONT say how old your kids are or where they go to school.

I had to call the cops when very young children were being left home alone on a regular basis. The father was abusing all of them. I packed up and left in the middle of the night. When I did bump into them months later….they hugged me and thanked me. Crying just thinking about it.

Some people overreact about kids having a fascination with guns, but “Shoot your mom game” is 100% not okay. That’s not hunting, that’s not imagination cowboys and indians, or lazer tag or paintball with team building fun.

The answer to this question is yes, absolutely. Boys playing "Army" or playing with toy guns is nothing to be alarmed about... but boys like these two with BB guns or something more deadly saying things like "who wants to play shoot/kill our mom game" is too far...

What is their dog doing running in her neighbor’s yard killing their chickens? This whole thing is solved with a good fence and leaving the neighbors to their own business. Not counting a public place like a park, my girls under 10 wouldn’t be playing with the neighbor’s boy hitting puberty.

There was a case recently where 6 year old shot and killed his teacher in Vergina. The world has gone mad. My kid says just the other day let’s move away to Europe I asked him why? He said how you seen increase in school shootings? I told him it’s no better there either because I didn’t want him not wanting to go school but in my head I thought this is one of the best countries where everyone wants to live. I think schools need to have door screening before entrances so many innocent kids die😞 we had multiple shootings in our town as well in the last years.

Hear me out - this mom is absolutely right to be concerned about their family safety but there is more to this story, especially between the parents. There was animosity there even before the chickens which is why they can’t be cordial towards each other without the authorities involved. I could be wrong but it felt like she wanted additional validation to loop in CPS. The more authorities the better! I also sensed some superior complexity over the other parents - in short they are both playing with fire - this is sad and scary! Get the kid help but also become a better adult too!

I grew up in Idaho and I would definitely not advise confronting the parents. Many people who live out in the sticks of Idaho are unpredictable. I'm not sure how I would proceed, but I would try to remain anonymous because those folks could make her life a living he$$ and even escalate with real violence. Report it and play dumb if confronted by the family.

As a school psychologist, I would recommend letting the school know, documenting everything your children are saying, and keep reporting when something comes up. Eventually if this kid is mentally ill, he will escalate ... the fantasy won't be enough. I don't think I would talk to the parents alone atleast and ask the school to call CPS..

Thoroughly disagree with Dr. D on calling CPS. If you have a concern, call. Your job isn't to decide if there's a legit problem, it's to report the concern, and let CPS investigate and determine if there's actually a problem. This is coming from someone whose life would have been immeasurable better if someone had called CPS about my parents when I was a kid.

This behavior should be reported to police as well as CPS. He has access to guns and is shooting at dogs on your property. He is talking about shooting his mom. Please report to CPS immediately. It can be anonymous. They do not need to know it eas you. They will investigate the entire family to make sure this child is not a threat to himself, his family or others. They will speak directly to the child and also to his school. It sounds like he may have a mental illness that could turn more violent then he has already shown.

My kids and I were at the park one time and an older kid, maybe about 9, was trying to play a game where kids pretend to stab each other. I immediately got my kids away from him. The guardian was just sitting off to the side on their phone. What is going on with our society? What are kids being exposed to? Is this what happens when we allow video games and tv to raise our kids? This is so sad.

I don't agree with going around town telling everyone first, address it with the parent's first with a phone call and take it from there. The animal abuse thing needs to be addressed ASAP, because this kid is not being taught well by a man on how to be a man. The local police already said they cannot do anything about a non-crime. We used to play the STEP ON A CRACK, BREAK YOUR MOTHERS BACK game in the 80s.

How would you like your kids hauled off over 1 word or would you prefer they came to you and asked about it first? Find your no big threat and either is kid or go straight for government escalations? I was in a similar situation in 4th grade. I had a cllassmate who was a constant bomb threat. This kid said it literally everytime we left a room or playground. I think it was directed at me, but I told my teachers on him and when she talked to him, he insisted that he didn't say that. Time passed and he moved and no longer went to my school. Maybe the same thing will happen here.

Im not sure about calling cps only because that might put her and her family in danger. When her husband goes to work and her daughters are in school, she's there alone. If it was me, I'd tell the boy in the nicest possible way that that like him very much but he's just too old to play with her daughters, like John suggested. I would also not have them stop playing with them at the same time she notifies his school or this family will know it was her.
