@libbysmith21384 жыл бұрын
Lawren Downing You will end up with back problems. An average parrot weighs 45 lbs... everyone knows that. If the parrot is scanning for threats, I assume he’ll have a decent spotting scope which will add a couple lbs. all said and done, you will have 47lbs on one shoulder for 12-14 hours a day. Best practice is to ditch the parrot and just take the eye patch off. Use both eyes unless you squirt lime in one while making a margarita, then you’ll just have to endure 47 lbs of parrot and optics while you patch up and recover from OC (orbital citrus). Hope this helps.

This was really funny, I don't have a parrot or a patch on my left eye. However I do have a patch on my right eye and I was laughing at this whole video because there's no doubt I'm left eye dominant. I shoot pistols right handed, but long guns and bows left handed. My kids would love it if I did get a parrot, but I get enough comments and double takes with just the eye patch.

Crazy that you've been able to shoot well (assuming a good shot considering your exp )When you haven't tried the head turn. I was never taught the head turn but when I saw that I was struggling to find the sights so badly it just came instinctively as I tied to compensate for being right handed/left eyed. Kudos for making life work for you in spite of that.
@fishfood87194 жыл бұрын
I am right handed and didn't know I was left eye dominant for some time. I read an article on how to determine eye dominance and watched some videos years ago. I read articles with people advocating forcing eyes to switch dominance with different methods. Further research I found this to be a poor solution and at best temporary, since the eyes would naturally change back to the previous dominance. Now using my left eye with that slight head position adjustment with both eyes open( always kept both eyes open) my poi has improved. It took some time before the new head position became automatic and natural without thinking about it, but now it's what is comfortable for me.

Great advice and much needed for many shooters. I'm right handed but left eye Dominant. Drill Sergeant Authier in Basic Training at E Co. 1-50th INF Ft Benning GA diagnosed it back in 2001. Best Drill Sergeant to ever wear the brown round! Seriously, we loved DS Authier and would have died trying to live up to his expectations. A true leader inspires that kind kind of loyalty and respect. I do just about anything to buy that man a beer. I fire right handed. No issues with a rifle, with a pistol I have to turn my head to the right. After nearly 20 years shooting this way it's 2nd nature.

This is absolute gold for me. I have been shooting with with my dad from the time I was eight. 40 years later and my dad gone, I still struggle with my handgun mastery. Being right handed, it’s natural for me to carry and shoot right handed also. So, when it comes to rifles, I am excellent and shoot left handed / eye. Reason being is that I was born with a “lazy eye” on the right side that has extremely limited vision. Your recommendation is spot on. I am nailing 4” steel gongs no problem. I haven't been back to the range in years since "discovering" I was cross-dominant. I took my brand new *Highpoint C9 (don't judge me; I'm poor) to the range with my CC certified friend. Even though in the distant past I shot fairly accurately with a rifle and even pistols, I was now consistently shooting to the left. Closed my left eye, and started hitting the target again. I do wear glasses, and my prescription for each eye is different. I was so depressed over having to close my eye to shoot, that every time I considered going to the range, I felt discouraged, and found an excuse not to go. Your solution, which seems just common-sense, but is coming from someone with your experience, gives me enough confidence that I want to revisit the range and see if it works for me. Turning my head would be so preferable to closing my eye for the reasons you gave. It _did_ occur to me to just turn my head, but I thought it was bad form. Thanks so much for making this video. *I don't like double-stack double-action semi-autos because I have small hands; for some strange reason I found the C9 _very_ comfortable to hold and shoot, unlike some other semi-autos. It feels balanced, somehow. I'm one of those few who actually don't like (stock) Glocks, though your Warrior Poet pistol looks sexy as hell...

Run what you brung. I don't have a highpoint (considering a carbine), but I have shot several. Never had a problem. They go bang, and seem to be very reliable. I did shoot one that was in .45, and something was up with the barrel. It wasn't very accurate, and the bullets keyholed past 20 yrds. At least highpoint will fix anything. I have had issues with big brands as well.

I'm going to an indoor range tomorrow, I'm going to try this technique. Thanks for the vids with your wife too. I'm a small person and watched the one with the Choo choo technique. This gives me confidence I can learn and become proficient in handling a firearm. God bless and stay safe. ❤🇺🇸

Thank you! I've had a few training classes and unfortunately have heard the "Oh, you're left eye dominant, do you want to try shooting left handed?" Answered no each time and did the left eye shut thing, though it still wanted to take over. Now you've opened both eyes for me! Thank you for that!

I have a lazy eye that's been mostly fixed and was never an issue since I was like 6 until I started using handguns. Red dots make it easier but I have constant issues with some sights especially ones on the micros. I can rock my AR and AK with little effort but grouping with any of my handguns with just 3 dots sights (even my 22lr) is just impossible. I think it's presentation problems mostly cause the gun I'm training with to eventually carry is a Glock but I shoot FNs, SIGs, and a bunch of others at around the same amount so it could be that my muscle memory was never fully there for anything cause I keep switching it up so much.

Yea that's the problem with having too many toys. I love by Beretta and shoot the crap out of it...but conceal carry my Glock. Gotta just buckle down and put in the time, and maintain a healthy balance at the range, keeping focus more on your chosen firearm than all the fun stuff.

Thanks for the replies, I had an IEP in school since 1st grade in P.E. for eye-hand coordination, depth-perception, and fine motor skills, on top of progressively near sighted w/Astigmatism and color-blindness ... ya know cause putting a 1/4" projectile somewhere Tens-Hundreds of yards away is too easy without that challenge. Lol 🙂👍

I've been looking for a solution for being left-eye dominant yet right-handed. My tactical combat trainer (ex-Army, ex-SWAT and detective) said the same things you just explained. I went to a range for my CCL certifying lesson and the instructor told me to turn my wrist but it felt weird compared to the way tactical trainer taught me. I'm glad there's another tactical guy out there saying the same thing so I'm convinced this is how I need to continue training. Thank you for all of your videos, been a subscriber for a long time :) God bless you.

I agree. She is in the public eye a lot (pun intended) no doubt, but handles herself well. John is an excellent promoter because he is sincere and operates out of conviction I'm sure. Women who are willing to learn how to shoot have a pioneering spirit. They're not afraid of what their girlfriends think.
@drowssapma4 жыл бұрын
@@jeffcooper9363 Completely disagree with your last statement. Women that I know who shoot see TONS of their friends very jealous and want to go shooting with them. The ones who do and stick with it tell their friends and so on. THIS is why you are seeing more women at the range. I'm easily seeing 60/40 and (depending on day, time, etc.) more women than men. It's fantastic!!!

John thanks for putting out this video. I wish I knew you 30 years ago. I’m a retired LEO first handgun was a revolver. Later into my career they started to train us in point shooting and I had an auto loader at this point and this was first time I tried shooting with both eyes open. I had a problem with it and was seeing 2 guns or double vision like she was. I brought up to the instructors then and several more times over the years and every time nobody knew what I was talking about and of course I was laughed at by my peers. I am kind of odd in that I shoot a rifle left handed and handgun right. I do some things left handed like shoot pool, surf, bow and arrow, power saw and I am right handed when I write, box, hammer a nail, throw a ball. I am left eye dominant also. I believe things I learned on my own as a kid I did them left handed and things I was taught to I wound up right handed. Thanks for this simple tip and putting out great videos.
