The battery trick works on the basis of a balanced charge. the charger won't charge if the battery is below a certain Amperage. By using another battery, you are getting the "bad" battery above that cutoff voltage :)

the chargers are designed to look for a minimum voltage - if its below that threshold it will not charge as the manufacturer assumes that several cells are defective if that low and they don't want to have a battery fire lawsuit when a cell explodes the bridge wires allow some charge to enter it, allowing it to then be above the threshold

somewhat related to that crayon one, when I want to do an inlay pn the top of boxes, I rout out the words or line drawing, using the smallest dovetail bit I can find, usually 3/16 or 1/8. then I fill it with solid core solder, and run over it with the soldering iron to melt it. it fills in the undercut, which locks it in. then scrape the top flush with the wood. looks really cool and is SO much easier than other line inlay methods I have done.

Guy who has built a BMS here: Don't do the battery jump start thing unless you absolutely have to. It can cause unregulated currents to flow into the battery pack and, depending on the type of pack fault, might cause a very sudden fire. The reason this works sometimes is that some BMS controllers will latch off when the pack voltage drops below a certain level, and the charger won't charge a battery with a deactivated BMS. Forcing the pack voltage up will sometimes unlatch the BMS controller, allowing the pack to function again if it was just over-discharged. If there's a shorted cell, doing this may cause that cell to suddenly superheat.

4:58 "I'm going to just fill the lettering with epoxy, sand it and clear coat it" Proceeds to make enough resin to coat the whole damn thing with it... Also most likely pretty durable if you have several mm pour in gap that is relatively narrow lettering. 7:45 You essentially just balanced batteries from one to another completely empty, raising its voltage high enough that chargers safety allowed to start charging it again. How ever while this works and i have done it multitude of times with different batteries, that does not mean battery is not damaged. At very least the service life is shortened and worst case it catches on fire. I would definitely clearly label that battery as ressurected so you dont leave specially that battery charge alone unsupervised. Also when connecting the wires make sure it from same terminal to same terminal or you wreck both of your batteries ie remember right polarity + to +, - to -. You can use multimeter to figure out polarity if you cannot figure it out since that has happened to someone in somewhere.

The battery thing reminds me of an old mechanic trick for trickle chargers. A lot of time they won't initiate a charge is they're dead flat, so you hook one good battery up to the flat one to get some pixies dancing around, the trickle charger sees it and kicks on, then you unhook the good battery. Some kind of safety mechanism I think. But who needs safety when you've got stuff to do lol
@animationcreations42 Жыл бұрын
I always keep an old battery topped up just for this, it's too dead to use for the car, but it's enough to give life to other batteries! I also have one of those cheap and nasty battery chargers just for reviving dead batteries, it just pumps out 12V so will charge a fully dead battery. Once it's got a bit of juice in it, I'll move it over to the 'good' charger!
@bengrogan9710 Жыл бұрын
You're right it's a safety, if below a certain level it's usually a sign of defective cells (A 12v Carbattery is actually 6x2v cells) and forcing charge into defective cells can either overheat them and spill the battery acid in lead batteries or cause the forbidden Capri-sun in Laptop/Phones

You can also just leave the bad battery in the charger and quickly plug in and unplug the AC cord into an outlet. This sends a little voltage surge to break up the internal crystalization that is preventing it from recharging...a little bit easier.
@randomlinuxuser Жыл бұрын
Crystalization only happens in lead acid batteries and hand tool batteries are typically Li-on. Not to mention decrystalization techniques don't actually work, as Great Scott discovered in a recent video. What you're actually doing when you quickly plug and unplug the cord is providing a little bit of charge to the battery before the battery charger registers that it's too low to charge and errors out.

I bought a brand new drill and impact drill set and out of the box the battery would not charge, it would only flash red. It wouldn’t take a charge at all and after looking into it apparently some batteries have a hard time charging from completely dead so I use the old battery that I had that would charge and still had some juice in it and jump the new battery for literally like two seconds, and it gave the new battery enough juice that when I plugged it into the charger and charge perfectly fine. It’s absolutely works. It blew my freaking mind.

The batteries work that way cos the charger has a self test, if the battery charge is too ran down it can be dangerous to charge them, doing the battery to batter adds a lower amount of charge to push up the dead battery very slowly. It's still not 100% safe so have a sand bucket and extinguisher on standby, but can work. Also... instead of bare wires I made a set using crimp on spade connectors, means no loose wires can touch something they shouldn't and they just slot into the contacts

The reason you can do the aluminum is because of the coal on the edges of the wood when you pre burn, or the aluminum pour burns into the wood. The more you burn wood the less it burns...etc. the initial wood will burn a ton, but you could allways preburn with a torch and then pour the aluminum inside the void. Very similar to Shou Sugi Ban.

Do NOT use molten aluminum for a river table. Use zamak, a zinc/aluminum alloy. It is cheaper than aluminum, tougher than aluminum, shinier than aluminum, and it melts at a much lower temperature. (edit) On second thought, this is KZbin. Trying out pure aluminum first might be better for views.

The battery thing is totally real. Actual batteries are not smart devices, they're a chemical reaction in a box with two pins on it. The reaction goes one way with an excess of voltage, and the other with a deficit. If you connect up two batteries, the one with a higher charge will charge the one with a lower charge, with whatever current it can muster. That's also the danger of it. Batteries have a few things they want: Not a too high charge voltage compared to state of charge, not a too high charging current compared to its capacity, and for the charging to be interrupted when it gets too hot. Practically, if you have a "dead" battery it's usually at a voltage below where it holds much charge - 2.8-3.2 volts for LiIon / LiPo. The charger will say "nope, that's not a battery" and refuse to charge, since the battery is at a too low voltage for a LiIon/LiPo. That means you can hook up pretty much anything that gives out up to 4.2 or 4.5 volts to punch it up (it doesn't take much to get it to 3.3V or above, that's only 5% of charge state), the charging current isn't *that* much of a problem if you use an equivalent battery, and the heat should be minimal if you disconnect it soon after, and if you do this in the winter time, or just watch out for it not being hot to touch. Then the charger will again see it as a battery in need of charging (because the voltage is acceptable) and charge it normally.

The battery fix works because the "dead" batteries are so empty that the charger can't detect them. Wiring them to a "known good" battery for a while gives them enough charge for the charger to see them and begin working as normal.
@KurtBlanken Жыл бұрын
The charger can detect them, it thinks they are faulty. Pumping current into a faulty battery is a fire hazard so the charger was designed to not do that.
I've done that battery trick a bunch. It's for when the battery gets so dead that the charger can't recognize the signal of the battery. Works great
