Layering Multiple Kontakt Instruments in Mainstage 3

Thanks 4 the effort. I found a workaround to be able to make layers within 1 instance of Kontaktplayer in MainStage by using it as if it is an external instrument using the iac midi driver. 4 this you make an extra keyboard in your layout as input 4 kontaktplayer. as midi input you choose the iac midi driver. Now you can make an external instrument track 4 every sound you want in your patch and send on the midi channel of the Kontaktinstrumennt you want to hear via the iacdriver. For this you have to give all your contact instruments a different midi channel.

Hi, I am working with Mainstage and thinking to buy Kontakt. A great video but missing one information in front. I am playing a lot of different songs and need more than one Kontakt setup. If I select Kontakt in MainStage it seems only one Kontakt setup is selected. Is it possible to store and select different Kontakt setups? If yes how will it works (loading setup if selected by MainStage or loading all setups when starting Kontakt?)

Yes in the video showed us how to layer multiple instruments into kontakt, but how do you split the different instruments to different part of the keyboard I only saw layer editor in the first channel strip not on the auxiliary strips

@GeorgeMaddox: try going into Mapping Editor. Click on the wrench in the upper left of the instrument. In that mode, you should be able to select/drag samples around to where you want them on the keyboard, overlap, etc.

Can you do this with kontakt player with 3rd party libraries? (Example would be something from sample logic or heavyocity?)

I am switching from windows to Mac and Mainstage. So I am hungry of information. Can you do this kontakt multi trick at concert level? And then at patch level just switching on and off your channels? It would save resources and patch loading time. Am I right?

Hi, so I tried this but then I noticed when I mute the other patches in MainStage they’re still being triggered within Kontakt so all the other patches are triggered. This causes my CPU usage to jump to 100% causing garbled distortion. Usually happens when I have full chords in my left and right hands. Pls is there any way to trigger the mute from MainStage and it will actually mute the corresponding patch in kontakt ?

Hi John, Thank you so much for the videos! I am running a new mac book pro with 16 gigs of ram and a i7 2.4 ghz quad core but with main stage 3.1 and kontakt 5 I am maxing out my cpu with more than 3 layers. I have my latency settings at 128 using a usb focusrite Safire 2x4 . just wondering if you have been seeing these issues after the update as well. thanks in advance!

It sounds like you shouldn't be having those problems with such a powerful computer. The only thing I can guess is if your sound library is not saved to an external drive and your using the computer to run all that audio as well as logic and or mainstage then I can see your cpu choking up.
