Crunch is an Australian Co. The MI Audio super crunch box . I have the v2 and I'm not sure if the had a crunch box, as well as the 2 versions of the super crunch box. It's a Marshall in a box type pedal. I was looking at the Friedman BE and dirty Shirley pedals. I kept having to play with the dirty Shirley's internal trim pot to get it where I wanted it. I then tried the super crunch box v2 and they had mode switches on the outside and I was sold. It was cheaper than the Friedman pedals and sounded amazing but you have to have the volume above unity gain to get rid of a fizziness (that's intentional Marshall thing in the design from what I read). Worth a look if you get your hands on one. 2 3pos switches. 1 is a clipping mode and the other is gain mode. Really flexible.

You‘ve got some really nice tones out of both :). In Germany there is actually quite a bit of a price difference too: 457€ vs 289€. Which is similar to the original market prices. So it’s clear that the MG-30 is actually targeted at a lower price level compared to the Pod Go. With the price of the PodGo here I would recommend looking at the HX Stomp when looking for Line6 gear. NUX is already working on a more advanced device which might be more in the price range of the PodGo. I don’t know much about it, but it did sound as definitely significantly more advanced than the PodGo. Regarding the Bias: this parameter not available in cathode based amps like the AC30 which have auto bias. So the MG-30 white box modelling here seems to follow the original circuits more faithfully than the Helix. In General I’m quite impressed by the modeling of the MG-30 and it’s sound and feel. The default Output EQ for „Studio Direct“ misses a little bit low end - it really wakes up by giving it a small notch up in Output EQ LOW setting. Also: while the default cabs are quite ok, the use of good IRs like those from York Audio makes a huuuuge difference. Comparing the signal chains: both are somewhat limited, but with free ordering of blocks some of them parallel, the MG-30 is a little bit more flexible here I think. One thing that’s easily missed: the MOD block can be parallel and since it also can act as EFX it can be a parallel EFX (so parallel distorted and clean paths). As always - this is only a feature if one needs that. To me personally - the PodGo offers over the MG-30 more foot switches, the stereo fx loop, snapshots and balanced output. The MG-30 offers over the Pod Go the little bit more flexible signal chain, a more compact and a little less plasticy case and a nicer UI in device and PC app. The missing foot switches can be compensated by adding e.g. something like a Hotone Ampero Control and the balanced output by using some DI. It’s mainly a matter of taste, but I like the sound and feel of the MG-30 a bit more than the PodGo (or Stomp)… but let’s face it… any of those devices can be dialed in to sound incredibly good. Regarding Line6 vs NUX and service: I‘ve made quite good experience with NUX here. The current scenes feature (and some other things) were added quite quickly after I suggested it to them and they really listen to their customers. They also have a history of updating their products with feature updates… that’s good and I think something that a vendor in this field hast to do. Line 6 is also following this mindset.

Amazing playing and another quality comparison video! IMO, they are all getting pretty good these days. The form factor, screen and built in pedal are all nice touches. Between these two, the POD GO is an easy choice. It is also understandably about $200 more. If anyone can swing it though, I would strongly recommend investing in a far superior Fractal FM9. I realize this is not a fair comparison because the Fractal is truly pro level gear- but I wanted to mention it because some in here reading this might be on the fence and financially able to make the investment. I never though much about gear. For my first 10 years, I played on an old $50 acoustic. Eventually I bought a cheap Boss multi pedal. I realized when you have better gear, you hear things differently. You are also more motivated to play (record) and for various reasons, you end up simply becoming a better player. To be clear no effects pedal takes place of getting quality instruction, learning scales, modes, theory, etc. All of that is super important. Some people have top level effects units and sound terrible- they play the same riffs super fast and there is just nothing behind it. When you can combine quality playing with top notch effects it sounds magical- JC exemplifies this. My point is simply that if all things are equal, having better gear (be it music, photography, golf, skis, etc.) will usually allow you to "up your game." Yes, I still have my old acoustic. Although, since I acquired an amazing Godin xTSA with regular electric pus, synth out and acoustic pups that sound like heaven through my Fishman mini, I rarely play my acoustic. The action on the xTSA makes it easier and more enjoyable to play. It's no Martin, but it sounds great. Practically speaking the FM9 is $1,599.99. That is a boatload of cash however if you consider saving the $500 on the POD GO, the delta is only $1,099.99 which seems much more within reach. Then if you further consider the fact that you very definitely will not need to upgrade the FM9 in 2-3 years (as you very likely would if you got the POD GO), you will start to realize the "value" and you will be playing on pro-level gear the entire time.
@aptfx3 жыл бұрын
Well… as it seems the waiting lists on FM3 and FM9 are still quite long and while substracting 500€ „only“ leaves 1000€ to buy it, that might still ADD more than double of the price many are willing to pay for their hobby.

@@aptfx True- high end gear is not for everyone nor is it necessary for everyone. I've been playing long enough on average gear that I am very ready for an upgrade and I can swing the extra $1k. Ironically, my first guitar was $50 and it played great and lasted years!

@@MOAB-UT If I would have the money for it, I would definitely also buy the high end stuff - so don't get me wrong :). My first guitar wasn't really more expensive than yours ^^. My current favorite is also a budget model: A Harley Benton Fusion-T - which costs just 299EUR and comes with steel frets, locking tuners, coil splitting and a really nice playable neck. I've still to see another vendor providing so much value for so little. This also reminds me on the NUX MG-30 (I have one): For its ~280 EUR it provides a lot. Its incredibly sounding and I did manage to mistake it for my tube amp more than once ^^ (cable was in MG-30 instead the tube amp and my FRFR speakers are near enough that I didn't immediately realize playing the modeler). Pups are mostly overrated and heavily marketed. From a physics standpoint, ultimately they are all just magnets really. I can (and do) knock around this cheap guitar and it just works. I am glad I held out and did not jump at the MG-30 as a main modeler to (finally) leave my 1998 Roland GP-100 rig behind . During the pandemic, I almost jumped at the NUX MG-300 (which is half the price of the MG-30 and arguably sounds more natural to my ears and some reviewers agree). However it would have been a throwaway purchase as a novelty (no FX loop, controller inputs, limited ins and outs in general, etc and made of cheap plastic) The NUX MG-30 is closer, with a more substantial chassis, more connections, etc, but it is missing something in the sound department, and reminds me of the sound of their sub-100 dollar Mighty Plug MP-2 headphone modeler which I own. I believe the same basic engine is used for the MG-30, the Mighty Air, and the Mighty Plug... It has a tendency toward sounding brittle and sterile unless you REALLY really work the preset to get something good. I am glad I waited (and / or ran out of disposable income for this year) as BOSS released the GX-100: It has 85 percent of the physical ins and outs of the Roland GP-100 (plus USB audio and computer editing) and most likely 100 percent and more of the internal processing signal chain options in a tank-like floor modeler case with enough footswitches and a controller pedal. Cheers @johnnathancordy for diving in and really giving the MG-30 a shot. I might have been more quick to dismiss it. Nux mg 30 or zoom g5n which is better?

Zoom g6
@leinadatidumarp2 жыл бұрын
I own both. Nux has better amp modelling and effect chain flexibility, whereas G5n has better effects (except the drive effects) and easier to use during gigs.
@TrickyTrav9673 жыл бұрын
These aren't close in price at all. I literally was just looking at these. Pod Go is 500 dollars and NUX is 300. For all the parameters, do you think you could get them close in sound?
@johnnathancordy3 жыл бұрын
In the UK, they are £300 and £360 so hopefully that makes a bit more sense as to why I'd compare them? And I imagine so, as you have plenty of EQ and options such as that to shape the tone, so there's no reason to expect that you can't get decent tones out of either.

IMHO, the POD sounded quite a bit better in your clip.

Sounds nasally on KZbin. Bearing in mind that KZbin is a lot of compression. I found gear I loved via KZbin sounded meh when I tried it at home. I wish a lot of these low end products are in store for in person comparison with comparable units.
