You can see from comments that achieving something matters. If you're just a common guy and posted your training like what Johnnie did, people will swarm comments with hates, advices, suggestions, etc. But this is Johnnie Jackson, one of the greatest bodybuilders so it's understandable people suddenly support, protect, agree, etc even if his form has flaws.

The reason for him doing what some would consider partial reps is to keep the tension on his chest. The upper part of presses involves mainly triceps instead of chest. Ronnie trains the same way and so does Jay and they all three have incredible chest development.

In this video, they were doing drop sets which don't really require heavy weight. But, having said that, they were still doing a pretty good bit. The range of motion thing is really overblown. Yes, it has it's place but the short reps Johnnie is doing has a place too. Stopping just short of lockout on the concentric portion of the lift puts constant tension on the target muscles. It really makes it much harder in my humble opinion. Whatever Johnny is doing must be working. He's a beast!

So you're telling me, I as a beginner would benefit more from doing the bench press with full range of motion. But don't you think it would be better for my confidence to isolate the chest in order to build a bit of muscle chest in order to develop a bit of confidence? I already built a bit of bicep peaks from isolating the biceps at home. I own a bench press by the way. Hey, can I ask you for your advice on something else? For the past five days in a row I worked I did 5 different biceps exerci

Yes what you suggested is what I had decided to do: both full reps and partial reps. Thanks. And about the joins - they hurt as we age??? So if I lift weights for 10 years you mean I'll experience horrible joints pain when I'm old? I'm 21.

They seem to go to failure in almost every set,when they fail usually they continue with half reps ,drop sets and stuff.That way they get exhausted from the first sets ,and the volume of excercises per bodypart is also bigger.These may be some reasons

Thanks for the advice. I'll follow your recommendation: I'll stick to full range of motion bench press, and at the end I'll isolate the pecs like Jackon and Coleman do. And about my biceps, I know what's wrong with me: my forearms are exvessively weak, so whenever I do any biceps exercises, my forearms do 95% of the work. I can already feel my forearms have gotten stronger and they hurt. I'm sure once my forearms get stronger they'll stop doing all the work and my biceps will do it instead! thnx

Its not going all the way up with the bar that matters...its going all the way down. Going all the way down helps keep flexibility, and once u get to the mid point of a chest press it switches to more delts and tris.
@MrProHLG
@MrProHLG 11 жыл бұрын
During presses its key to not lock out -_- if you lift weights you would know that not locking out keeps the tension on the primary muscle group in this case the chest. I guarantee you if you bench 225 10 reps with lock out reps, you would only get 5 or 6 if you kept the tension on the chest. In order to build mass which is what a press is usually used for its best to keep the weight in motion. Once you lockout in the bench press you move the tension to the triceps and not the chest...

I already looked up the RESEARCH on "range of motion." The researchers found out full range of motion results in more strength and muscle mass gains than short-range. Look up the research when you can.

Muscle repair with the use of comon protein suplements does lower the amount of calcium on your body, and that weak the bones, that is also is easly corrected with correct meals. Train by it self does not anything to the bone.

There's never been a better example of the importance of genetics than Branch and Johnnie's training is concerned. Johnny has the monster back Branch lacks, and Branch has leg development Jackson could only dream of, yet both men follow roughly the same routines and probably take similar drugs on a weekly basis. That said, I have seen Johnny train in a much more strict style than he did here, primarily in accessory pressing moves.

1) I MUST ask you.- has it been SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN that weight lifting exaggerates joints pain when we are old? My mother is a nurse and she takes care of a 96 year old lady and that lady has no joints pain (no osteoporosis and/or arthritis). I know that as long as I get my 1,000mg of calcium a day (or more) until age 50 and at 50+ 1,200mg - 1,500mg calcium a day, and if I protect my fingers and knees and other bones from the cold, then my chances of joints pain will be significantly lower.

exercises, but the HUGE problem is... my forearms do all the work. My forearms get a huge pump, they get really hard and full of blood... but my biceps don't! How is it possible for five different bicep exercises (including machines) to only work out my forearms?!!! My forearms are excessively weak, so this has to be the reason right? My forearms have definitely gotten stronger. I know something is wrong. It can't be form because I have used bicep machines too, so idk...what's wrong with me?

When you strong locking out all the time wears the joints down. The "regular people" here who complain he isnt locking can do so with the lighter weights they use. Benching with 135 vs 315 or more is as similar as driving a honda vs Lambo.

HELP!! I'm 21, 130lbs, beginner level. Today is the 4th day in a row I train my biceps... and they never hurt. I did E-Z standing bar curls, cable bicep curls, and used two other bicep machines: total workout time ~50 minutes. PROBLEM: my FOREARMS always do most of the work! My forearms are extremely weak btw. Why do my forearms do all the work?

the genetics maybe similar, but the body type is not the same across all humans. assuming johnnie is like most bodybuilders, he is a mesomorph, meaning that his body is athletically better (stronger[not considering steriods if taken], cardiowise). the other 2 body types are ecto and endos. ecto = tall ; endo= round. it harder for endos to train the same as mesos because they do not have some physical boundries then mesos. For most ectos its hard for them to pack on extra weight.

When a bodybuilder is that massive they risk a chance of tearing a muscle through a full range of motion. So if you keep continuous tension on the muscle being worked it is much safer and will build good muscle. It is easy to tear a muscle especially when you are chemically enhanced.
