Don is a life coach, and this is what happens when a life coach and philosopher does reactions to traditional country music. Enjoy!

Comanche wasn't Custer's mount, he was ridden by Captain Myles Keogh who was the Commanding Officer of I Troop. By a special order (Known as a General Order) it was commanded that Comanche never be ridden again for any reason under any circumstance and that he be used only in parades and for special events where he would be led by halter, in a position of honor. When he died he was given a full military funeral - only one of four horses in the US Military to ever be given one. (I had to do a report on him when I attended the Army's Senior NCO Development Course).

It's so great to hear Johnny again --- I wore out my vinyl copies of his albums when I was a kid, and this is one of my faves of his. I like all his songs, Springtime in Alaska is a great one, and so is Whispering Pines. Thanks for the shout-out Don, I'm delighted that you like the hat. I'll have to find another one that says Canada, but doesn't have Canada printed on it so you can alternate. I'll give it some thought! Thanks for the great reaction!!!

Comanche was the only survivor of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. He was the personal mount of Capt. Myles Keogh. Custer had two horses...Vic and Dandy...I don't recall which, if either, he rode at Little Big Horn. Johnny Horton told great stories. US soldiers found Comanche, badly wounded, two days after the battle. After being transported to Fort Lincoln, he was slowly nursed back to health. After a lengthy convalescence, Comanche was retired. In April 1878, Colonel Samuel D. Sturgis issued the following order:

Johnny Horton is one of my favorites. I was actually the one who requested the first song of his you reacted to. North To Alaska. He has many others. Honky Tonk man is a good one, Springtime is Alaska is 40 below. Many others. The horse survived.

Comanche survived and is mounted and on display at the University of Kansas. Bit of trivia, he married Hank Williams widow Billie Jean when Hank passed away and then himself was killed in a car accident. Stay away from Billie Jean, it don't end well.

Johnny did a lot of what you could call "Historical Ballads", all of which have a basis in fact. Give "Jim Bridger" a listen for another good one!

Johnny Horton is one of those country artists that deserves more recognition than he gets and in my opinion should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame, but for some reason isn't. Great reaction.
