1969 and the World was changing rapidly. Your montage of events, good or bad, shows the changing times from music, politics to every mix of events. I got married in Oct. of '69 and we are still together after 47 years. From Vietnam to Woodstock to the landing on the moon what an event stacked year it was. Thanks for the memory's.

I've watched television shows on specific years, and must admit that your "Memories" series is better than any produced by any network. I was 11 years old in 1969 and was beginning to be aware of life around me, so this was a real blast to watch. Thanks so much for these wonderful pieces you've put together. I turned 11 that year, the last year w/my beloved grandpa (he died the following March), he paid for our family's vacation in DC, I remember watching the moon landing in July at a hotel while visiting relatives out of town, my dad tried to keep me awake to watch it, but it was late at night & I was too tired. Went to see Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, a smash hit that year, still one of my favorite movies. I loved my TV shows: Bewitched (Dick York was replaced that year by Dick Sargent; the show was never the same), Dark Shadows, Rowan & Marin game shows, the Brady Bunch premiered that fall, as did Sesame Street. I was too old for it but liked to watch the Muppets. The Mets finally won a World Series, the Jets won the Super Bowl (my grandpa was there in Miami when the Jets upset the Colts, he liked all the NY teams, so he was happy w/the Mets & Jets in '69), I vaguely remember Chappaquiddick--overshadowed by the moon landing the same weekend, but not for long--the Manson murders and Woodstock. Hurricane Camille hit Mississippi, killing over 200 people, Nixon's inauguration. Started listening to the radio later that year and recall hearing "Sugar, Sugar," "Aquarius," "In the Year 2525" and "Spinning Wheel." And, of course, Saturday morning cartoons. Bugs & friends were always a favorite for many years, but I also liked the Archies & George of the Jungle. Oh, to be young again!

Anthony!!!! We all got a kick out of that one for some reason. Elizabeth Montgomery, man, did I have a crush on her. I had completely forgotten about Bobby Sherman. My sister had pictures of him and later David Cassidy on her wall. I know I blacked out the teeth on one of em just because that's what little brothers did I suppose. My sister and I did see Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at the theater. That old theater is still around. It was restored by a historical society and they show classic movies there I'm told. And the Galloping Gourmet. I had forgot about him too. My Dad was a blue-collar guy who worked on the docks, tough as nails, but he loved that show. And his spaghetti sauce was legendary in the neighborhood. It was a bit different each time because it also included a bottle of scotch for the cook. And then there was the Moon landing. That was the event of the decade for us Apollo kids. I remember sitting on the floor with my brother, both of us having our Lunar Module models with us. Well, mine was the cardboard version because he was great at putting models together and I pretty much sucked at it. The only thing missing was a shout-out to Abbey Road, the final Beatle album and a record that changed the way I listened to music and my life for that matter. I gave up my dreams of being an astronaut and was going to be a rock star! I started out as a drummer, until Dad got home the day I got my first drum kit and said, "oh hell no." Picked up the guitar after that. Bounced around the club scene for a bit until I finally got into my head that I wasn't going to be the next John Lennon. They had shot him by that time anyway so there was that aspect to throw a damper on it. Playing baseball and going to the amusement park down the street in the summer, football in the fall, street hockey and sledding at the golf course in the winter. To borrow from Archie, those were the days. It blows my mind it was so long ago. I feel for kids today who don't seem to dream big dreams like we did. Maybe it's because we don't do big things like the Moon mission, and now they are messing that all up as they try to recapture a past that ain't coming back. Cool vid. Nice trip down memory lane, to a time when I was still young enough to believe I could be, well damn near anything.

How great to see Graham Kerr again. I was 10 in 1969. Whenever I stayed home sick from school, I always watched the Galloping Gourmet. Could be why I'm such a foodie to this day. I was 20 in 1969, a golden year… I remember watching in awe with every other human being on Earth as Neil Armstrong took the first steps on the moon, summer camping in a tiny driftwood shelter on a beach beside the Pacific Ocean at Florencia Bay on the wild west coast of Vancouver Island, mellowing out on my first tokes of cheap weed, finishing my second year at University of BC, happily losing my virginity to another young man, joyfully immersing myself in Fever Tree’s “San Francisco Girls”… aaah, sweet memories!

I mentioned this in another vid, but I was 4 in '69, and these are some of my earliest memories that "stuck" in my head. In particular I remember the moon landing. I was living with my grandparents at the time (my parents split up for a couple years after I was born - don't worry; they got back together after a short time and remained together for the rest of their lives), and I used to get up when my grandfather got up for his early morning job. He got up a bit early that day, because all the broadcasts were on Eastern time and we were in California, so he was up and about at 3:00AM to watch the coverage of the actual landing - we'd watched the launch three days earlier together too, but I don't recall that very well, mostly because it was the same thing I'd seen on TV all my short life. But when they landed, my grandfather started to cry. He was old enough to have been a teenager when the Wright brothers flew, and now he was seeing humans landing on the moon. Of course, I was too young to understand why this was so emotional to him, but I remember being worried and him trying to explain it to me. BTW - I love these videos; subbed!

1969 was a seminal year for our world, our nation and for many of us, as individuals. Saw my first concert --- Joplin at the San Diego Sports Arena, not long before she passed. Held my breath with everyone else, as we first landed on the moon. Cried of the Manson murders. Saw the power of people coming together for good. Saw good people lost for no good reason. I just found these videos and oh, how I love them! I was born in 1961, but aware at an early age. The first song I remember was, "Turn, Turn, Turn" by The Byrds. These videos make me unbelievably nostalgic and yet so happy at the same time. Thank you so much for sharing these gems!

In 69 I remember- The moon landing, The Mets winning the WS, Staying at my cousins house during Woodstock, because my hippy parents went, Listening to Jimmy Hendrix, Jefferson airplane, and the rest of the Woodstock heroes on the radio. The Mick #7, Going to the old Yankee stadium, The Manson murderers, I was only 3. I don’t remember what I did last week.

I turned 11 during the summer of 1969. I was living with my family in Southern California, totally bored by the moon landing, but enjoyed watching those TV shows (The New People), songs (Hey Little Woman - Bobby Sherman) and commercials (Ring around the collar!). God I'm old.

I’d moved back from Honolulu in 1967 where I was in grad school, got married and spent the summer of 1968 roaming around Europe and gave birth to my first son 13 days before the moon landing so I held him up in front of the TV so he could watch” it! LOL !He slept through the whole landing coverage! Our whole family just adds 13 days to his birthday so we all know exactly what date it was Neil first stepped on the moon!

Was 15 and can't believe how much has changed and stayed the same. What's totally shocking is what happened to my generation, the baby boomers. Some how along the way, we lost our direction. Remember the moon landing. Have been by the house of the Manson horror. Woodstock was one of the top events of the 20th century. The main question is how in the hell did we end up in this altered world we exist in now??
@rebeccafaith1
@rebeccafaith1 4 жыл бұрын
I wonder the same thing all the time! It's hard to imagine how/why the boomers story arc developed to what it is now. And what that might mean for other generations. I mean boomers were going to change the world for the better. I can't think of another generation with more motivation to make the world a better place. And look where that's ended up.

OMG! Best one yet! I've got goose bumps! Thanks so much for these. I want to ask about the commercials. I remember them so vividly, like they were just on t.v. Yet I was only 6 years-old! Were they on after, like the spaghetti commercial, I remember it exactly how it was shown here. It's hard to believe that was aired in '69! Great memories. Even though I was only in first grade, I remember so many of these things. This was great! Thanks so much, Johnny!

Wow, JB792, can you believe it was 50 years ago today that "The Brady Bunch" made it's television debut?! It seems just like yesterday that I was that seven year old little girl sitting in front of the tv that September night back in 1969 watching the very first episode. And, if I'm not mistaken, I believe that is actress, Maureen Arthur, in the Cheer laundry detergent commercial (22:00) who played Lamont's acting coach on an episode of "Sanford and Son". I think she was also in an episode of "The Odd Couple" if I remember correctly. Also, great memories of "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In". I didn't get the jokes, of course, but what kid couldn't appreciate the humor of seeing a big person in a bright yellow raincoat and hat, cycling on that tiny, little tricycle and suddenly falling over. It broke me up every time! And I _loved_ those "Banana Splits. I even remember getting one of those plastic gloves with one of the characters on it. That was one of my favorite toys. I think that is one of the reasons I loved growing up in the late 60s and early 70s so much. Just like life, toys were a lot more simple. Back then it didn't take much to make a kid happy or cost a lot of money. Another great video by the way. Thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into these wonderful little time capsules. Any chance you might do one on my birth year, 1962? That would be great. Hope you're doing well, JB792. Wishing you a great upcoming weekend! 😊
