5:05 Everyone should know this painting. Its called "The Zahpriozie Cossacks Write a Letter to the Sultan". The Ottoman sultan demanded that the Zahprozie cossacks would join his empire. He wrote a long letter where he spelled out every major title he held (King of the Romans, Jerusalem, Egypt, etc etc). When the cossacks answered they answered by writing out every title he had mentioned only changing the actual title to something along swineherd of Jerusalem, bastard of Egypt, pissdrinker of the Romans etc. This is why you can see the men laughing hysterically around the table. These cossacks held lands north of Crimea, bordering the Ottoman tax farm of Moldavia.

I love to know about Ukrainian and Slavic culture in general which feels so distant here in western Europe. Basically, we don't really get to know about other cultures in-depth, only on the most basic level, and that is what separates us. I believe blatant racism today would be a lot less common if we were really engaged with other people and their cultures.
