I would recommend watching the documentary “The Show Must Go On: the Queen + Adam Lambert Story.” It covers how Queen and Adam Lambert got together after they saw him do the Led Zeppelin song on American Idol.

Adam Lambert was by far my favorite Idol contestant. I’ve also been fortunate enough to see Adam sing live on 3 separate occasions, which is where I learned that he isn’t only an extraordinary vocalist & stage performer, but he sounds even better live than on his records. I’ve never, ever experienced that with another singer besides Adam. His voice is truly one in a million❤

"There are many good vocalists, but there are few like Adam. He sings as he breathes, what a pitch, and what an amazing timbre! To me, he is a vocal phenomenon whose genre flexibility has no precedent in modern pop and rock culture. Live he sounds esoteric! He's also a funny guy and humorist, and that's what I like. Thank you doing this, brings back memories. I missed the telecast at the time, but was introduced later and caught some of the weekly shows' reviews. One reviewer noted that in addition to vocals, Adam did try to distinguish himself with the audience in other ways too... like for movie theme week, when most of the others did ballads and soulful numbers, he "came skipping out" with Born to be wild. (Country week being the most obvious one too lol)

I am a senior citizen with 5 grandkids and I was riveted to American Idol during Adam’s journey. My daughter and I watched together every week and tried to guess what Adam would do next. I was in 8th grade when the Beatles hit Ed Sullivan so I have to admit I hadn’t been this much drawn to a musician/group since my Beatlemaniac days. That’s a LONG TIME! I, for the first time, during that season followed some of the American Idol websites to read the comments of other fans of the show. A couple weeks before the finale Adam’s sexuality was outed publicly by a magazine. Headlines on the cover. He didn’t hide his gayness….he and the show just didn’t talk about it. But those last two weeks the far right Christian holier than thou comments were all about him being gay and not his performances. They really tried to push their hate agenda and I’m convinced Adam’s sexuality is what caused him to lose the competition. Luckily it all worked out fine for him. He has an extraordinary career and deserves all his success. I still listen to his cd’s and Idol performances in the car because I love his voice and interpretations. There’s an old KZbin performance of him as a very young boy/man performing in Brigadoon. You can already see he is something special.

I remember watching his original audition on American Idol and thinking to myself "this kid's going to be a HUGE star." He had that amazing voice, charisma, and stage presence, and he came across as normal - poised and confident but not arrogant or douchey. His talent is really obvious here, but I actually think that he's gotten better over the years. He's more polished, more thoughtful in how he uses his voice, but has lost none of the power and distinctiveness of his vocals.

If you want rebellion in Adam's performance and it doesn't bother you him making out with Tommy (his straight bass player) then you need to react to his performance of Purple Haze/Whole Lotta Love from his Amsterdam show during the Glamnation tour. It was recorded by fans, not on TV, so he really let loose and let's just say there was some haze in the air. His fans lost their sh*t over that one in a good way. I don't recommend it unless I think the reactor is open to Adam being so open. Here's a link to a fan compilation of it, so good - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKbahmmhbLeDaMU
