@@JeffMTX - That would only be one Senatorial term. I would go with 16 years total for Congress. That could be 2 terms in the House and 2 in the Senate or 8 in the House and no Senate. Still be possible for a Presidential option. Not all politicians are bad but the longer they are there the more corrupt they seem to become. If they knew they had to return to the private sector within 16 years the laws they would create would be different. Need to also have them only be eligible for a standard 401K (403C for government staff) retirement and the same healthcare coverage as the rest of non-elected government personnel while employed by the government. The same punishments if Insider Trading has been proven and no hidden harassment cases. They currently are so far above the laws that govern the rest of us they act like diplomats. Even diplomatic immunity has its limits. Our government can expell foreign officials and they often can be tried for offenses in their own country.

I wish to share it with you because you said a few key words that are relevant: Please consider: "What if" there were so much money and power in play at the federal government level that a group of people recognized it and fashioned government conditions such that they could, by controlling the congress, greatly enrich and empower themselves? (Sounds crazy, I know.) Ah, but sens and reps are routinely cycling through, due to elections and whatever, so these "people" would have to form some kind of "process" whereby they could retain their advantages, even though new people were regularly coming in and old ones leaving. A reasonable person would assume that such a process would include bribery, extortion, and blackmail. Crazy? Well, the MOB does it as a matter of their daily work. For them, it is REQUIRED, because one cannot trust 10,000 employees to all be gravely loyal, no? SO... say there WERE such a process in place. If so, then, even if we good citizens elect and send a GOOD man or woman up to Capitol hill, that good man or woman is going to be framed, threatened, extorted, tempted, bribed, and tricked EVERY SINGLE DAY until those "people" have enough dirt on that good man or woman to CONTROL that good man or woman. NOW, I rhetorically ask, "what's the difference between my patriotic congressman or senator, and that scumbag from Illinois or wherever, if these bastards have their hooks in my good man or woman?" I am afraid that the answer is "not much," and this may very well be why our congress accomplishes VERY LITTLE that we want it to accomplish, and why the House has an approval rating of what, 7%?
