My wife approached my desk as I was watching, and saw one of the dialogue scenes where we see Gabriel Knight's face a bit better, and she commented "He looks a bit like Conan O'Brien". Now, even though I don't see this great resemblance, I can't unsee that, and every dialogue scene now cracks me up, as I'm imagining Conan O'Brien as the game's protagonist. 😄

I assume Malia Geede is a follower of VooDoo, or at least her ancestors are. They probably made offerings to the VooDooo queen for wealth and power. I also think that Heinz Ritter and Harrison Knight switched countries and names to help them better assilimate to a new environment. I'm excited to see where the game goes from here!

Fun playthrough so far. One tip however that I think can be beneficial to the playthrough... don't be afraid to spam away on topics when questioning people and/or discussing topics with them. From these first two videos, you seem to almost be avoiding it or treating it like you covered everything by only asking/bringing up the topic once. However, a lot of them go deeper than you think & provide some great overall information & lore to the game. For example, asking Gabriel's grandmother about his grandfather, dad, mother, and his grandfather's previous name. If she has nothing left to say, she'll say, "I don't know what else to tell you, dear." But she can dish out a lot of info on all four of those topics, and will give you info that will play into the game later on, etc.

It's so impressive how excellent the writing and voice acting is in this game (for the most part). Sure, it's not perfect, and it's definitely a different vibe than modern games, but I love the banter between Grace and Gabriel for instance. Or the Drug Store owner, bartender, etc.

If you talk to Grace for a while, she'll share some history about her family being traditional Japanese, but that she didn't live in Japan for very long. I don't think she says where she used to live before New Orleans, but I feel like the writers and voice actor (Leah Remini) did a fantastic job nailing the 1990s New York vibe. She reminds me so much of the hip-trendy New Yorkers you'd see in a TV sitcom from that era (Seinfeld, Friends, etc.), at least in terms of her attitude and responses, and certainly her accent.

It’s super interesting to see how the little quality of game improvements have appeared in adventure games since their creation, like you mentioned Kathy Rain, you can get indicators of all the interactive objects so you don’t have to pixel hunt, even something like danganronpa and phoenix wright have that detail added in to lessen the frustration, games like Laura bow provide you with lists of tasks so you can keep track of what you have already done and what you still have to do, for older games I know the manual that came with the games was a must since it actually explained and expanded the game and we’ve lost that too with time, so they just threw you into the game with no tutorial.
