I like musicals in a theatre with all the instruments and acoustics. In a movie, not so much. But this trailer definitely hooked me, because it seems the musical part will be in Joker and Harley's fantasy land and it can connect well with the story, as you said.

Seeing musicals live is one of the best things ever, totally agree. This movie has a huuuuge budget and hopefully some of the most talented musicians and sound engineers working on it, so it would be a let down not to do it justice. Let’s see! 🙂

Most people don’t understand that musicals use music to tell the narrative of the story. This movie will use music as an element of the narrative, it’s totally different

Absolutely! If used well it can really elevate the story and the narrative. Let’s hope that’s the case in this movie.

I think that people don't realize that Joker has a history of musical numbers. But I'm really excited for this movie.

I had no hope for this movie I actually was like "musical? Not watching it meh!" And throughout the trailer I was hooked now I'm definitely watching it.

@@KristinaEmilyOfficial Todd Philips is a great director, from Hangover to Joker, also we gotta remember Joker won Oscar for best original score and best actor and nominee for best picture and best director and that's just some out of 9 nominees I mentioned. So I have faith.

I think to compare a dislike for musicals as an equivalent to not liking books or movies as a whole, is an exaggeration. I believe a better comparison would be to compare musicals to other movie genres. For example, someone who doesn't like musicals, would be equivalent to someone not liking horror movies, or westerns or gangster movies. However, I do agree that even within it's own genre, every movie is unique and it would be a better approach to keep an open mind when considering whether or not to watch it. I'm not a fan of musicals, however I very much enjoyed Wonka, with Timothee Chalamet. Having said that, I'm not yet entirely convinced that a musical will be a good fit for a character like Joker. I think I'll wait for reviews to come out, before deciding whether I'll watch it in theaters or wait for it to stream.

Thanks for your comment! I like your analogy! Where I was coming from was more in regards to the format of the story e.g. books are written format, dance is movement…movies are primarily visual and in that way musicals are similar but have a distinct way of combining words, melody and movement into a tool for storytelling. I agree that this could be an unusual pairing…but am intrigued to see the direction they took when it’s released. ☺️

@@KristinaEmilyOfficial ahh, I see what you meant now. Yes, I too am intrigued and I did enjoy the first one, in spite of not watching it again because it was definitely a heavy movie. But I'm interested in seeing what they'll do with it this time around.

I love musicals they are the most popular form of theatre nothing packs out shows in London and Broadway and around the world as much as musicals, my favourite of all time is West Side Story which is a musical version of Romeo and Juliet. My second favourite is Hamilton, a musical based on an historical figure, both of these productions were game changers in theatre setting the standard. Also the biggest selling soundtrack albums of all time are also musicals The Sound of Music and The Greatest Showman. I guess if you’re going to cast Lady Gaga in a movie then music will feature quite heavily.

Don`t like musicals but I´m the biggest Joker fan (Comics, movies, etc.). If the story and the movie in general is good , then i don`t care about some songs.
