Agreed. I like the commentary of the film, just disappointed they weren't able to flesh it out better. I think the film does a fantastic job at showing what happens to a cult of personality when the person at the top isn't the raging sociopath that's required for the position. A sentiment that's unintentionally reflected with the bad press in the real world. Everyone came for Joker and were disappointed with what they got.

Really enjoyed Joker 2. Exceptional performances from Phoenix and Gaga throughout though I felt it fumbled some in the third act and. I applaud Phillips for taking the chances he did with this film, even if some didn’t fully pay off. Iwonder if there was anything left on the cutting room floor that would have help flesh out some of the ideas he was going for in the movie. While I enjoyed the ending it definitely will make some fans lose their minds, not in a good way.

This is going to be one of those movies that I'm going to have to watch on my own. I love Rocha and Kristian, etc, and I trust their judgement and respect their opinions, but I also diverge in my movie opinions in a lot of ways that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with if I trust their judgement or not and I think is going to be one of those.

We need more movies to take swings and give us something new… whether is works or not ! I really enjoyed joker 2. Audiences are starved for something different. Its was beautifully shot and the performances were amazing. Nice getting something different from the rinse repeat CBMs of recent years.

@@JezzaBondiBeach Right, but if it doesn’t work and falls apart in the third act then the big swings become even more rare because the “rinse repeat CBMs” work more often than not.

I was so torn on this movie. I really enjoyed the first two acts but thought the third act got way too muddled. It felt like Todd Phillips was trying to argue against the criticisms of the first one but accidentally fell into those criticisms with the sequel.

I don’t think they succeeded with the commentary in the first movie. I think they they were to a pre occupied with the look/shock value, so I am not shocked they fumbled the bag worse when they had even less of a vision and inspiration to work from. It’s a shame because I was keeping my mind open because I do love many of the movies Gaga is in, but it’s a hard pass for me.

I _really_ liked it, but I totally understand why most people won't. I'm glad me and my housemate saw it in an empty theatre, because there were parts that had us in stitches (which may be an indictment of our sense of humour, but hey). Both of these have been a great Elseworlds experience for me as a Bat-fan (don't really spend much time with the rest of DC) - a large portion of my comic collection is not the long-line canon books but the stories and series that present new and interesting takes on familiar characters, and this fits right along side them, for me. I've heard a lot of people say this seems to be apologising or making fun of or tearing down the first, but the more I think about it, the more I think of something else... Way back when Radiohead released their first album, a little song called "Creep" went absolutely ballistic. The problem was, no one in the band really _liked_ the song (the story goes a practice session was recorded, and those awesome guitar crashes were Jonny Greenwood trying to ruin it). Every gig they played, fans demanded "Creep", and it became this burden that they had to deal with. On their next album they wrote "My Iron Lung" in direct response to the unwanted popularity of it. Their journey away from pop is partially a result of the whole experience. For me the idea of unwanted popularity (or popularity for the wrong reasons), and pushing back against it, feels like the underpinnings of it all (not just in the movie, but from how Todd Phillips reacted to "Joker"s popularity). Joker is Arthur's albatross - and we all know what happens when you kill the albatross... (Hope that makes some kind of sense, I watched it 12 hours ago, so it's 4am as I write this 🙂)

I haven't the chance to try this movie out yet, but you gave Phoenix his flowers for a great performance. Do you think it was good enough to be Oscar worthy or not quite? Or do you think his exceptional performance might be hampered by the criticisms of the film, itself, that it will hamstring him when it comes to awards consideration?

Also, the end... I think it worked because... We never know a specific "origin."
@JohnRochaSaysАй бұрын
Yes, we do. He killed the original Joker who put the idea in his head to be a Joker and took his mantle because he wasn't strong enough to carry it and become an even more insane Joker who will battle Batman for years to come. Easy enough origin story. "Saw this dude shake up the city. I was already crazy. Waited for the right moment because he was too weak to carry the movement,. I killed him and took his spot."
@vladimirjak8971Ай бұрын
@@JohnRochaSays kind of didn't want to spoil that but after discussing with another friend, my original thought of a connecting to the dark Knight is actually an incorrect assumption. But it does make sense in a way like you mentioned, if "one couldn't follow through then I would" idea makes sense for "a version of an origin" for a Joker. Regardless, I dug it and most didn't so oh well. 🤷🏽

So is this an anti trump movie lol. The whole point of the joker is that Arthur flecks mental illness which isn't his fault and his delusions turned him into this " incel hero" , but he wasn't that he was tired of being treated like dirt because he had mental problems to the extent he didn't even have enough money for his medications as the system he lived in was cruel . And to undo this in this movie makes no sense
