Depends on what you want. For me I wanted my rig to be self contained in 1 case. However, Cirklon does ALOT in that 14hp breakout module. I would sign up now though and just get on the waitlist.

Obscure Machines maybe when you set the general velocity for the kicktrack in the midisetuppage one on the octatrack to a lower value and parameterlock a higher velocity???whould be a killa feature

What did you end up using to help make the modbase mkII sound better in post? I just got one and it's such a strong kick. That I'm finding it difficult to get it to sit right in the live mix. Thanks

I run mine through a Fold6 to make it pop out even more, but that's in all my other videos. So something I do to bring things back in the 3D space of a mix is to run things through a digital filter. Maybe, even anything digital will help. Worth trying out if you have anything digital you can run it through. Perhaps an overdrive of some sort will clip the transient some. You have the opposite problem cause usually everyone wants their kick to punch through and do all kinds of sidechaining and stuff. I do have that problem occasionally though. Like the Erica Bassline is really, really fat and heavy vs other stuff in the mix.

I picked one up last week and love it, however I cannot seem to figure out how I properly store (and recall) from the 10 user presets - any hints there? The manual is so brief on the subject..

Nice! I'm not sure actually cause I just find a nice preset, then change a few settings on it, but never remember to save it. I think Benki told me he set aside like 10 slots for his own presets. So I would look at making 1-10 your own. IDK how to save them though...

@@ObscureMachines Thanks! Yeah I figured it out last week how to do it, you actually save over the factory presets - so make sure not to do it with one you still want to keep as is - you can get it all back only through a midi dump if you have/get the original sounds

Hm. Half of those sounded unusable (what is this high pitched beep doing in a kick), the other half was pretty nice. Should I spend 370 Euros on a kickdrum? Damn. But there are not that many options out there...

Well, these are just the presets. The high-pitched sound is probably the metallic or noise parameter that can be sculpted or taken out entirely. It's the best-sounding and most powerful modular kick out there. You can tweak the parameters to get in 808 or 909 territories easily. If you are making techno then the kick is the most important part and the price is not that bad really. I use mine in conjunction with the Fold6 and a 1u FX. So my kick drum sound costs around $600-700. Before I was using the Erica Bass Drum and NE BIA with the Fold6 and either an FX Aid or the 1uFX and that was even more. MB09 is a bargain and highly recommended!
