I spent weeks trying to make a steering tube work on an old non tilt-tube Evinrude motor. Finally gave up and used the old school pulley system I got from a junk boat. Got it installed and finished and functional today. It’s not what I wanted, but it’ll work. Anyways, it’s night now and I can’t be out working on it, so I’m here watching videos about it... good job on the boat! 1973 13’ welded Gregor, with a 1966 Evinrude 18hp Fastwin, added a console/front deck, remote steering and remote throttle, she’s now just a couple days away from being ready for her maiden voyage. I have the pieces to make it electric start, but I’m not sure I want to put it on this boat, it’s a 1 or 2 pull motor anyways...

yeah, i had an old cable steering system from another boat but it was too corroded to use so i spent the extra money for a new kit (150$ maybe?) and im very happy i did. Thanks, boat projects are very rewarding, im sure yours is gonna come out great. its funny you mentioned a fastwin, this boat came with a 1958 18hp fastwin, worked great, just wasnt enough power. Cheers

I just bought a 12 ft 'V' hull from my friend and I can't stand the function or look of a tiller steer so I was going to build a center console steering unit for but after seeing how yours looks with a more forward full width dash in it, I think I am gonna go with your design. Looks better. Thank you for the idea. People keep asking why? Or saying that's wasting space on it but I checked it out...can still fish with 3 people like before a dash. Believe it or not, it also makes more room with your configuration for other stuff/storage than a center console. Not much, but more. Once again, thank you for the idea.

I could not agree more, I love the dash setup myself and it doesn't hurt the utility of the boat at all. Just have to make it look pretty now, which I'll make a video about soon. Thanks for the comment

Is that a mirrocraft? I have the same one(73 14’). I love it. I acquired a alumacraft 16’ deep v i am considering doing a center console on it.

It is! Its a 79 16' deep fisherman. The v bottoms really cut through the water compared to flat bottoms or even semi V's. I have big plans in the off season for this boat including a larger motor and center console build as well. Cheers

How do you get it to shift

It’s got the selector on the right side, just do it by hand

I might have missed it but, what size engine do you have?

In this video, it's a beat up 1986 Suzuki dt40 40hp (2 stroke) I'm currently working on getting a larger (85hp) to run for me, then I will be experimenting with that on this boat. Videos to come hopefully

@@lightninghouse6385 that would be too powerful for this boat no? How long is it/style of boat?
@lightninghouse63853 жыл бұрын
@@TarickWalcott too heavy? Or too powerful? The Merc 85hp I'm using is only about 80 pounds heavier, which is still lighter than some new 4 stroke 40's. It's a 16' v bottom aluminum mirrocraft. Hull-wise, I'm not too worried, it's got a transom I put in a year ago that I treated and painted. You're right though, who knows? I think it'll be fine but either way I'll have the video evidence 😂
