I'm an American that has lived in Germany for a while. I found Germans to be refreshingly much better educated, even the young children. Also skeptical, my ex (a German), would be skeptical of some things I said, and would look it up for himself. At the university, I felt like a fool next to German university students. What had I learned for 12 years in school and several years in college? Americans are quite uneducated, partly religion is to blame, partly shame of our past (we did a little performance in 3rd grade for the parents about how the Natives and Colonizers were friends) and omitting history, partly propaganda sources like Fox "News". I think too many Americans don't have much mental energy to research things, be it they are overworked, mentally fatigued from a bad diet, trained by religion to accept strongman in power without question. I had Germans ask me if I believed in evolution or science. It's funny and I can understand why they would ask because there's many here who don't.

And he just walked out of the press conference in the most shameful and least presidential way. I like how they say that she needs to articulate a detailed plan when the guy she's running against can't even form a coherent sentence. Shouldn't he need to be able to articulate a plan as well? Or as a minimum, some sort of cogent thought that implies he still has any connection with reality? Her plans are 1000% more detailed than Trumps and actually make sense. You don't need to agree with them but the whole point of tariffs is to increase the cost of goods, so if you're concerned with inflation, that's the last thing you want. There are reasons to use them but it's to insulate specific local industries from products getting dumped into the country due to unfair government subsidies. But they still increase costs in that case as well. In the automotive industry, you could have EVs for under $20k if there weren't import restrictions from China. But there are, so costs start at 50% higher. When you bring that onto consumer goods that just aren't produced in the US anymore, it just increases costs by whatever the tariff value is. So if it's 40% of things from China, basically whatever you buy from Walmart is going to be 40% more expensive and you're paying the difference.
@Xerxes82822 ай бұрын
Because Trump's plans are irrelevant. Project 2025 is every bit the detailed roadmap that the press is accusing Harris of not having, and it's the roadmap Trump will follow if elected because he doesn't care about anything but enriching himself and staying out of prison. That it is also completely and utterly terrifying, anathema to Constitutional norms and institutions, and bat-guano f'ing crazy doesn't seem to be enough to disqualify Trump or Pr2025's creators. The only logical conclusion is that a large segment of Americans ACTIVELY WANT TO LIVE IN A DYSTOPIAN DICTATORSHIP for whatever reason. We are the only voting populace in the world that appears to long to be a banana republic. I won't claim to understand it, but it speaks for itself at this point.

to be fair, when other politicians do that, journalists will usually repeat it once, twice if its important...then let the viewer decide if he's still ducking the question. they might might even say "still not really answering my question but moving on..." So, standard journalistic practices applied to Trump will be an interview of asking all questions 2 or 3 times, noting its unanswered and moving on. Otherwise, all interviews will consist only of re-asking the first question till Trump walks out. (which would be funny, but not much of an interview)

It's insane to me that it takes a comedian to cut through all the bs and show things for how they are because most news organizations are too preoccupied with chasing headlines or appear "fair" to do it themselves. There's something very wrong with how the system works when information providers put audience ratings first and entertainers have to pick up the slack for them.
@ekdaufin14852 ай бұрын
It’s who owns them (the media) that is the problem.
@j.criquette33342 ай бұрын
It is an insane situation but that does not automatically mean that the news organizations are not doing their job or being complicit. What you're asking is for the front page news section to be no different than the opinion/editorial section. And were you to do that, you'd be putting into actual effect the sort of thing that Trump constantly claims is going on: that they are all biased. There is a reasonable criticism of interviewers for not doing things like saying "Mr Trump that doesn't answer the question". They have grounds for doing that as journalists and I would like to see more of that happen. We saw that during the debate to some extent, especially when David Muir repeatedly fact-checked and challenged Trump about the things he was saying about in Springfield. But what they can't do is precisely what Jon Stewart can do. That would not be objective journalism. That would be interjecting their own personal opinion into the story they are reporting on. It's not about being fair. It's about being as objective as possible with the event they are reporting on. There is NOTHING wrong with that and it has NOTHING to do with ratings and everything to do with some 600 years of evolution of the meaning of journalism. That Trump stands the effectiveness of that on its head by his very existence is not the fault of the media.
@XIII_Vanitas2 ай бұрын
@@j.criquette3334 Objective journalism doesn't exist and has never existed. Every piece of content outlets put out is editorialized. Analyzing politician's claims and finding out whether they correspond to reality or not is the job of journalists. Instead of it, we get headlines like "Trump sharpens his criticism on Harris" that sanewash his incoherent ramblings. Trying to avoid getting labeled as "biased" by the people who call anything that remotely undermines their worldview as such is a complete waste of time and effort. The only reason media companies still do it is because they don't want to potentially alienate that audience, which would lower their sales numbers or viewership and harm their bottom line (making money from selling ad space).
@UseLogicNotEmotion2 ай бұрын

@@XIII_Vanitas If you compare the New York Times to what you wish the New York Times would publish, then yes, you're correct. But if you compare the New York Times to what used to be called "yellow journalism" there is simply no comparison. I've been hearing the idea that there is no such thing as objective journalism ever since my days of studying Marxism and the Frankfurt School fifty years ago. It's really cool to be able to say such an observation, if only because you feel that you have an insight that no one else has, if not a key to the kingdom. The problem with such an observation is that it neglects three obvious facts: 1) there are only so many words in the English language to use; 2) everything that is published in a professionally run newspaper, especially political articles, are always carefully edited and vetted; 3) no profession is perfect, journalism is "only" around 500 years old, it can always be improved. But to suggest that it doesn't strive towards objectivity (which is basically what you're saying) is very short sighted, and very wrong. One person's objectivity is certainly another person's bias, especially when it comes to politics, ESPECIALLY when it comes to Trump. But just because Trump is reported on as a candidate for president doesn't ipso facto mean that the report is not being objective. I'm very sure there have been countless meetings about how to cover someone like Trump. That the results don't fit your standards doesn't mean that it is not objective.

No, we don't. The electoral college is important because it keeps a few coastal cities from steamrolling the rest of the country. It's the same reason why we have a bicameral legislature, to balance the large states against the smaller and/or less populous ones.
@conabe2 ай бұрын
@@bwofficial1776 if these “few coastal cities” can “steamroll [everyone else]” then they are a giant chunk of the population. They are: eighty-one percent of people in fact. The electoral college only takes votes away from these people

This is why he has no plan- his plan was Project 2025,. He never realized that Democrats would read it and sound the alarm. Once people hated it, he claimed that he never heard of it. Why not say "I was going to use it but if people don't like it -I have this plan ___instead" - if he did have another plan? If he has no plan-it's been 9 years-why not???
