This video is spot on. I just took the exam this morning, and I noticed the exact same trends. My recommendation would be to spend most of your time focusing on Table 7.6 from the 4th edition textbook. This table covers all of the assessments with overactive/under-active muscles, flexibility needs for the overactive muscles, and strengthening exercises for the under-active muscles. I would also develop a chart that takes all of the acute variables in a training program and align them with the appropriate phase of the OPT model. If you master these two areas, I believe you would have covered 75% of the exam. And thank you Jonathan for all that you do. I found your channel roughly 6 months ago. You helped me make the decision to leave school leadership and follow my passion to improve the health of our children and families. Keep up your fantastic work!

As an ISSA CFT I can say that they are great about payment plans, and they accept military funding for TA assistance programs the military offers. The testing included case studies and multiple choice. I also received a business guide for personal trainers with my initial cert. Which for new trainers is crucial. So by the way thank you Jonathan FitPro for your help. The help and guidance from ISSA is outstanding. Over the phone, Facebook and through course question boards. Good luck to all future Personal Trainers out there!

Just stumbled upon this video and I had to instantly like and subscribe. First off, the way you objectively described the differences between the three certifications was really helpful. A lot of other reviews are blatantly biased claiming one certification to be the best and all others being crap. With most competing products/services each one usually has its pros/cons over the other. I am currently studying for my first certification (NASM) and I definitely agree there is an emphasis and posture and muscular imbalances in the material. Anyhow, great info and I look for to checking your some of your other videos.

Great job & great presentation! I got my NASM cert about 12yrs ago and I was curious to hear your experience and opinion of my 1st "real" certification. You offered a lot of valuable career advice (as well as testing advice that I wish I would've known back when I was sitting for the exam!) for everyone from someone considering a certification, to those that don't have very good certs yet - in that a strength of NASM is offering an actual beginners guide of programming and a strategy which, many individuals who are already trainers can benefit from. I hope that the cost of a certification does not dissuade anyone from getting certified! IMO, personal training is still the best career opportunity available when you compare the minor investment of getting certified compared to the earnings potential!!! I can't think of any other opportunity where you can invest less than $1k and not have a cap on your salary. Unfortunately, the big box gyms are, from what I hear, gouging CPT's wages though...SOBs! That truly sucks! However, you don't have to accept it! We just have to become more creative in ways to train outside of the big name gyms. One last opinion from this old CPT is that the absolute best certification available that covers everything is PTA Global...by far! And for existing CPTSs, they have a "Bridging Course", and an "Advanced" Course that are mindblowing! I have nothing to gain from saying that other than I want CPT's to be taken seriously for their knowledge so it can be seen as a respectable career, worthy of partnering up with Drs and other healthcare professions. Unfortunately, I don't recommend their 1st "Mentorship", but that might be just because I've been in the game so long and have been relentless with my continuing education. I let them know and they returned my money without any hassle what-so-ever. They were very empathetic. Rodney Corn, 1 of the core creators, and is probably still the CEO, of the PTA Global Personal Training Certification actually was the head of education development when NASM was developed and came out with the entire "OPT" model they have to this day! I can't recommend enough for everyone to thouroughly research what PTA Global offers and how they collaborated with best educators in the world to develop it! I wish everyone all the best in their personal journeys!!!

Very informative tips here. Thanks a lot for this vid! I'm currently in the tail end of my W.I.T.S exam. Took the final last weekend, just waiting for the email to mention if I did well or not. Figured I would start with WITS first, then move onto NASM later down the road.
@nancyrae83176 жыл бұрын
I took the WITs course and I would NOT recommend it. NASM is so much more organized, better overall and great customer service. I personally contacted the president of WITS and he is extremely unprofessional and is very rude when he speaks to customers. I would say some other words but I’ll be nice... It was a total waste of money especially when my entire class failed the exam, the instructor left out a lot of information and basically told us we didn’t need to read the text and the practical exam was a total joke. Anyone that complains about the exam gets a rude response from the president of WITs basically blaming the student and saying how amazing their program is. They were claiming to be NCCA accredited which they weren’t until recently. A large majority of gyms have never heard of them. I spoke to several and they said they didn’t even accept their cert. I went with NSAM instead. It was cheaper and I learned so much just in the first chapter of the book and online course.

Great advice man. But I do have one question pertaining to food. What are we allowed to do when a client asks us about what to eat because the book just keeps saying refer to a dietitian? Can we even say chicken is a good source of protein or leafy vegetables are a good source of carbs? Can we say carbs are not bad for you if they come from the right sources? Can we tell them what to eat at all? Can we give them a meal plan to help them live a better lifestyle and achieve their results? If the answer is no to all of these questions then what's the purpose including the nutritional part of the NASM book? I would love to talk to people about how to eat healthy but it seems like it says it's against my scope of practice. Why not just say refer all questions about what to eat to a dietitian?

I had NASM for a number of years but my weakness was programming. I worked at two gyms but they were more like a fitness attendant not doing personal training. I didn't have the confidence then after so long not doing anything with it I just let it run out last August. I love fitness but one thing that helps to get in the field is to network with people. I really wanted to make this a career for me but I had a couple of interviews and to be honest the some of the managers were some of the rudest. They never helped my confidence level instead bring me down even more. No matter what certificate you go for hopefully you get plenty of time to shadow actual trainers and to pick their brain. I never really had that but hopefully anyone getting cert will find someone to shadow and become more confident.
