I think your reaction was the same as all of us who played Halo 2 for the first time: that incredible opening cinematic, the abysmal improvement in narrative, the fact that there are physics to make the scenario more alive with boxes and objects reacting to us or explosions, being able to use two weapons at the same time for God's sake are so many details. Remember that you can combine weapons by using 2 at the same time, for example you can carry in your left hand a Plasma Rifle to burn the shields and in the right hand a SMG or a human pistol together with a plasma pistol, there are several combinations with which you can experiment. Oh, and another thing, you can pass the weapon you carry to the marines, for example if you see a marine using a pistol and you have a Rocket just approach and you will see a sign that will indicate that you can exchange weapons, and you know what the best thing is? they have infinite ammunition! That means they will shoot like crazy without worrying about reloading.

Full credit to you for giving Halo 2 a shot despite having a hard time with parts of the first game. Just keep in mind that Halo 2 has frustrating/janky parts as well and it went through development hell back in the day and had a rushed release. The remastered cutscenes are made by Blur Studios and the quality is indeed legendary.

Useful tip- Even if you have one bullet/battery left in your weapon when you interchange that with your ally, it becomes an infinite ammo for your ally.

So Halo 2 when first came out had a sticker on the game cases do not sell before release date. When release date happened November 9th, 2004. There was insider jobs that released. Could not play iirc. Week or so before was Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, October 26th. But Halo 2 caused so much kids in HS and adults calling off from everything to play. It was also the first online Halo game iirc. Either way it was a day of no appearance and playing a game. Can look up midnight release of Halo 2. It was wild

Btw they call chief "demon" because they used to call all spartans that, as if one of them died, another identical to them replaced the dead spartan. Master chief is among the last spartan 2s, which were called demons, and they sort of use it as an insult and sign of respect The elites had a lot of respect for humanity because of how they fought and they saw similarities between humans and elites

Great first episode! You can mix and match dual wielding with all kinds of guns. often times shooting something from your off-hand is better than shooting nothing.

Welcome to Halo 2, probably one of the best Bungie ever made (tho being an ODST fan I’ll definitely say ODST has a high position but that due to bias). With probably the best halo story, some amazing dialogue and banter (both cutscene and ingame) and when it launched it was the game to revolutionise online multiplayer into what we known today. Also, say hello again to the ultimate alien killing, smooth talking, badass defying marine to ever live, Gunnery Sergeant Johnson. In H1 he was just a slightly more generic NPC, however after the fans and Bungie fell in love with him… let’s just say he took an upgrade in the world and story. - also, personally. Once you complete the mission metropolis, I suggest pausing before the next mission and going on KZbin and looking up the multiple dialogues you get for the start of that mission. Yes something Bungie became famous for is including different lines in cutscenes and gameplay depending on difficulty. This is one great example, several more shall come in later games.

You have no idea how much excitement the Halo 2 & 3 hype trains were for us back then. Imagine Marvel's Spider-Man 2 hype and marketing...times 100x and unlike most AAA games that comes out these days, actually exceeded our expectations! They were like the OG Star Wars trilogy releases but for gaming. And as you can see, there is a LOT of new mechanics to play woth just from the first level alone, (Duel-Wielding certain weapons, no more worries about looking for health packs, its all shields now, new and revised guns, and many more youll find out later). Im so jealous you get to experience the game for the first time 😁

Wait, wait, wait! They got subtitles during the gameplay?!? What always bugged me about Bungie's Halo games was that they had subtitles during the cinematics but none during the gameplay. Like why even bother if your not gonna have them on all the time? So glad they finally added them in. :)

Let me put it like this, EVERY Halo game has driving in it, sorry 😝. 6:05 Master guns is the shorten term for Master Gunnery Sergeant. Halo 2 anniversary came out in 2020, they definitely upgraded the cutscenes more than the gameplay. Duel wielding is good but it’s a shame you can’t melee or throw grenades while doing it.

CE will always have the nostalgia factor for me since I grew up playing it, but I can't lie... Halo 2 is such a huge step up. Bungie really outdid themselves and the hype when it launched was unreal. The cutscenes and remastered graphics from 2014 are gorgeous, but the gameplay, mechanics, levels, characters, and storyline are all from 2004 and they hold up amazingly well even 20 years later. I'm so glad you gave this a try after CE was a bit of a let down for you, and even more glad you love it this much! And agree with what you said about the humour. The conflict in the story is serious and high stakes and all, but the game is meant to be fun and lighthearted and the devs nailed that. Enjoy the rest of the story, have a great weekend!

As someone already noted down below, turrets are a good time - and may or may not be detachable 😸 Oh, and since you figured out dual-wield, feel free to mix and match (you can also scope the battle rifle the game keeps giving you - so check the keybinding in your settings menu... which also lets you switch the bindings to be more like modern shooters if you think that might be good for you) As far as the dev cycle went for this game, Bungie didn't really have a plan for a second game - since a sequel for one of their other games had been disastrous just prior to H:CE, and was the reason they sold themselves to Microsoft to avoid bankruptcy - but once H:CE became a massive phenomenon, devs went *hhhhhaaaaaarrrrrrdddd* and were determined to fix all the shortfalls of H:CE, so you won't get much in the way of PTSD 🤙
