So many thanks for posting this. It`s a truly awesome performance of a truly awesome song. Joni has brought so much to so many. Probably the only artist who can move me to tears time after time. True genious.
Just beautiful, great performance by a great artist.

In some ways this is a timeless song, but there is an innocence and honesty to this songwriting and performance that is a product of its time and is really hard to find anymore.

The miracle of songwriting is that sometimes an artist can tap into a bit of universal wisdom that everyone can relate to. As young as she was, Joni was already able to do that. Genius is a gift, but it must be nurtured with dedication and hard work. Joni Mitchel is the real deal, one of the great artists of our time.

This was obviously way before my time, so I can't say I feel the nostalgia that most of the other commenters can talk about...But when I first heard this song a few years ago (after downloading it by accident) I was immediately touched by the depth of it...Truly enlightening.

Pure, full of wisdom beyond her years and excellent quality is the folk singer soprano voice. We must realize that she wrote this song. Amazing. And so very introspective yet free flowing. Very much of it's time and Mitchell is and always will be one of the best of the mid late 20Th Century female songstress/composers.

If you cry to this version and don't yet know the 2000 retrospective version, when you listen to that you will be wrecked for a week. It hits the heart in the most poignant bittersweet way, glancing back at the naiivety of even the most precocious youth from the wise and loving perspective of a fully realized artist and human being.

I don't know what it is about that time in history, it is hard to describe or to put into words. But to have been young and to grow up in that time is something I wish my children today could experience. I truly believe the youth movement of that era all over the world changed the course off history. It's a time that still lives in me and is greatly a part of my make up of who I am and to here these songs "that time" seems to briefly wash over me again.

What a talent she is. Her guitar playing is completely unique, and her ability with words and melodies is astonishing -- such simple words and yet powerful meaning. On top of that, she's beautiful, with porcelin skin and crystal blue eyes. And she's a heck of a painter, too. They don't make 'em too often like Joni Mitchell.

My love for Joni started when I was in my early 20's. My sister had a copy of Songs To A Seagull when she was at Farliegh Dikenson University in the early 70's. From that point on I became a huge fan of Joni Mitchell. Bought all her LP's and sometimes I had to replace them as I wore them out. Thank You Joini for your music & songwriting, which is sheer poetry. You helped me through some very difficult times in my early life through your misic. Joni is a Goddess.

I grew up listening to Joni, I love hearing her. Each time I listen to her songs, it's like listening to my childhood - sunny days in the vegie patch with the sterio playing through our battered old kitchen window, my old dog helping me dig holes in the dirt to plant more cabbages and petunias. Just Magic...

I watched the Johnny Cash show back in the day and very well could have heard this performance on the show. Much older now, I just wonder if other musicians, poets, and the general public really understood Joni's extraordinay talent at that time. Listening to this today, in 2012, 42 years or so later, this song and performance is stunning.

I love all kinds of music from Joni Mitchell here to great live rock and blues bands like Humble Pie. Most of the good stuff is from the 60s and 70s when what you heard is what you got. There are some good sounds around today but not on the same level as back then when you consider what they had to work with compared to now. And how many songs stick in your memory like this one from Joni.

1965 to 1994...that's the beginning and end of all great music as a period of time and not just scattered good artists. That is when music became real, and rock became good. Joni was right there doing her thing. In Guitar World's 100 Greatest Guitarists, Joni Mitchell made the list as the only female on the list.
