I was jsut sitting down and having a terrible session today. Sometimes there are those days where nothing good is coming to mind and it can be really frustrating especially when you are working on a commission project. Watching this video definitly made me feel better and I think it's important to know that you can absolutely walk away and take a breath. The music isn't goin anywhere and sometimes we need a fresh brain before getting into a creative space . This is especially important for when you get home from a long day at work and you put a ton of pressure on yourself to use your time "valuably".

From my experience, your observation about hardware is spot on. Hardware has its place but has always hindered me making music. I think one of the reasons hardware sales have gone up is because of content creators. They need something visual to make a video. A DAW screen isn’t good for making social media content.

This is just what I needed, man. I remember the days when I had a shitty laptop, Reason with stock sounds, and a cheap midi keyboard. I was so much more productive and didn't have a care in the world. Now I just bounce around different hardware and DAW's, judging my creations and lack of productivity. Time to take a few steps back and get back to what's most important.

since i began making music, i instantly and automatically faded my boundries of genres.. instead it expanded into whatever i liked to hear, certain scales, certain rythms, whatever made me want to hear more... and now 10 years later i compose reggae, trap, classical, balkan folkmusic, dnb, dubstep, hiphop(from oldschool to whatever region to modern)... i even made a japanese army ballad at one time... starting out with fl studio that one day unfolded into me exploring everything i liked and wanting to make it myself with my own input(the regurgitated thoughts of influence like you mentioned) to make it as close as possible to the actual genre. music definitely saved my spare time boredom moments

i started making beats way after you, in 2016, and even though there were still undoubtedly way more resources online for learning things than in 2004 lol, the producer community still wasn't nearly as accessible as it is today. bulding up confidence as an artist is a difficult and complex thing that took me a long time to figure out, but if i had this video back then, i think it would have been easier for me to not go so hard on myself sometimes. its actually kind of funny because i specifically remember listening to casette on vinyl & your other projects back in those very early days and being super inspired by them and trying to figure out how you made them lol. they definitely were part of that initial discovery of this art form that blew my mind, made me want to learn this shit more than anything else, and got me to push through the frustration of busy works beats and shitty reddit advice. your transparency and honesty as an artist on this channel is such a gem, just want to thank you, first of all for making dope music, and also for making the joy and beauty of creating music accessible and open to everyone with these videos!

EXTREMELY VALID. My biggest realization in the last few months has been (a) if I expect to be magically good and super talented less than a year into making music, I’m rushing it and (b) high end music software won’t make me better. It’s just a program, like the rest. It’s the quality and the time that I invest, not the money or resources. Getting better means making the gear I already have sound good, not good gear I wasted money on sound mediocre. It’s the process all the way. My goal is to make a cut-and-paste garage band demo sound like a high end studio ballad, once I accomplish THAT I can treat myself to a new monitor

Greatest advice I’ve been trying to internalize over the past few years is accepting when I suck at something, and not letting that awareness turn into judgement and self-negativity!
@papajohn7606
@papajohn7606 Жыл бұрын
This actually hits pretty hard, because for the majority of my life, I‘ve substantially limited myself with the pathological urge to figure out everything on my own, which slowed down any kind of process by a ridiculously large amount. I‘ve recently stumbled upon a supposed quote of Mozart who said something like „I wouldn’t have been able to compose all of this without studying the great minds before me“. On the other hand, someone HAS to have pioneered a specific creative field with no real point of reference, so I wonder if this was just an incredibly slow gradual process or if divergent thinkers with unfathomably high intelligence and creative talent basically created ingenious works of art from nothing.
