The woodworker that never makes mistakes is a liar. Doesn’t really matter how many mistakes are made, although frustrating, it’s the ability to fix them that counts. I always appreciate the honest ones. Keep up the good work.

still a massive upgrade from the actions of most parents which would be to give the kid an IKEA gift card.. that girl will be 90 years old.. weeping every time she tells her great grand kids about the time her dad surprised her with these shelves. IKEA cards don't have that power IMO. :P

@@ioncladstudio2688 If my momma had given me a ring out of a gumball machine, I would cherish it for the rest of my life. My father could build a house with his bare hands & I would set fire to it. I would tell my great grand kids how my mother went without so she could give me an IKEA gift card. That power doesn't come from material items.

Thanks Bezos. Just a tip, the T nuts you used to attach the legs should go on the inside of the cabinet so that when threaded in, it compresses into the wood. (This is what they use to attach climbing holds to walls, if the nut was on the outside of the wall, you’d rip it right out!) Like the design and pop of color!
@jasmeralia Жыл бұрын
I don't think it really matters here unless you're trying to hold the dresser upside down by the legs. Here, it's not providing structural/load-bearing support to the legs; it's just about keeping the legs attached. Much like Dominos might not add any notable strength or stability when joining two pieces, but they're absolutely amazing for alignment purposes. Rock walls matter a lot more because those bolts are load-bearing. They're around a 90° angle to the ground, so you have to account for shearing force on the bolt itself and (if it's not a perfect 90°) also horizontal tear-out force, which is where you're entirely right about where they should be placed. In fact, I'd argue that in this case, where the most normal force being asserted is a downward one from gravity, the position of the tips he used is actually more correct, as they will dig into the wood further as additional weight is added inside the dresser. Your suggestion would have the tips grab more as the legs are tightened, but that's not really important... maximum tension won't always be correct if you need to accommodate for a floor that isn't perfectly level (aka most of them, heh).
@groverprice4755 Жыл бұрын
You’re both right, I’ve just only used them the other way which makes more sense in my brain.
@teaguewhite26 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing also when it slid across the floor instead of lifted there's less of a chance being ripped off the bottom. I'm sure that was probably covered in the long explanation of why it doesn't matter though 😂

Thanks, Bezos! I love seeing the builds you do for your family. Like, they know what you can do, but you always blow them away each and every time. I adore that. I think there's a saying (probably from the Bible) that "a prophet has no honor in his home city" or something like that. Meaning that the people who know you the best also know your flaws the best. And the way you bring such joy and excitement to the ones who love you the most is an incredible attestation not just to your skills (both in the shop and out of it), but also to your dedication towards improving your craft with each piece.

Good job! My brother made spiral staircases. They did not laminate pieces of wood, he kerfed it. He filled the spaces with wood glue and clamped it to a jig. Let it cured it for a week and he had a spiral band or an arch for the bottom step, which would be the equivalent to your dresser top.

Exactly half circled parts usually don't really bond to the other parts optically. They always look as if they were somehow detached. Because you squeezed the top a little and got to a slightly oblong shape, the optical transition from top to body looks more refined.
