I am always so excited to see the work my fellow creatives are making around the world. Thank you to everyone who sent in submissions to our open call on the Patreon page. It’s always great getting an objective view on the pieces of art you make, this is where the creative community truly serves itself. Thank you Jono for the critique of the dog. You got my name correct - Meaghan (Megan):) I had started with that ear and realized as i went along it was too detailed but did not know how to fix. Getting the blurred areas is almost harder than the fine details. Much appreciated:)

Jono this was really helpful. I especially appreciate the segments when you illustrate your advice by drawing on the submission. It is incredibly informative and instructional. Just in this short video I gained two really important tidbits which will help my art improve. 1) pushing the contrast with deeper shadows and intentional, precise highlights can dramatically improve a piece. 2) Pushing myself to go just a bit further with attention to detail can also pay incredible dividends in moving my artwork forward. Have noticed you stepping up the content game. Appreciate you trying new types of content. This one was a definite winner for me and would love to see regular critique vids. (Oh, and I like multiple critiques across a variety of subjects like you did. Really cool)

Hyper realism is tremendous but, my thought is that, as long as it's applied to a piece like what you accomplish where apply an unrealistic composition. A piece doesn't always has to be hyper real when drawing an everyday real life composition. You're tremendous and I watch to see how you work. My osteoarthritis of the thumb has ended my hobby but, I really enjoy your work!!!!!

Your critiques are precisely how we were taught to critique in Fine Arts: you are KIND but honest, complimenting first the strengths of each piece, then tactfully and succinctly offering not just VERBAL comments (which was the sole component of a critique available in the early 80's) but it's so HELPFUL to see you ALTER the image using modern tech. A picture is truly worth a thousand words, and whereas formerly, one would seek to understand precisely what the person offering constructive criticism OFFERED, the changes you make to the image give a far more precise demonstration of what you are saying. I have heard MANY "critiques" throughout the decades and whereas some were exploited as an opportunity to be hurtful (wherein another student would NOT post their own work and use the opportunity to be very cruel), more often than not, others provided genuine help, as a new eye can see things one sometimes cannot when working on a piece. YOUR TONE and INTENT are VERY KIND and respectful of the works, the artists and the critique itself. THIS IS PRECISELY HOW to give a "critique" or "constructive criticism" and the world is a better place with such help to others. Well done.

Hi Jono.. I always look forward to watching your critique videos, it's quite amazing how you see 👀 and what your recommendations are, we get so much value from these so greatly appreciated. I have a little question & please forgive my ignorance, the second piece you critique, where the image gives the illusion of ripped pieces of paper... you mention the technique and called it something but I didn't quite catch it as never heard of it before and would love to know more. I obviously don't expect you to explain, perhaps you could write the name & I'll investigate. As always, thank you so much for all your wonderful advice and help. Blessings Manos ✍

Not trying to sound negative but with each upload I see of your outstanding ability to create such masterpieces ,I'm questioning just what am I doing here. Ok I'm sure many think this from time to time seeing that your in a class all your own. If sketching was magic you are the David Copperfield of as you say pencil drawings. Have you ever thought of having your own small school say no more than 10 students but only for the advanced. Many years ago in the late 70s I would work for free at the Prince Hotel in Toronto just to learn the insane skills that this one head chef had. It paid off all through my career as I was able to work wherever I wanted to and in mostly any position. I could only imagine what skills your students would learn and how they would soar after . Everything starts with a thought 😌.
