An excellent walk around the east part of the City of London. By that, I mean the financial district around Liverpool Street and Leadenhall Market.
Joolz tells you all about Liverpool Street station, the kinder transport, St Botolph's Without Bishopsgate, Bedlam, St Mary Axe, The Gherkin, where Shakespeare first lived, the birth of the stock exchange and why a man died because a mouse stole his lunch!

As a londoner I can't appreciate enough your informative videos. You are a national treasure. I have walked past almost all these buildings and never imagined the great and funny history behind the designs and locations of these magnificent buildings and structures. The history behind small designs like the mice fighting over cheese and grasshopper are always ice on cake.

Sunday afternoon treat, I genuinely love the Joolz series. I can't understand why, the Beeb hasn't sponsored Joolz to write a 6-part, 30 mins per episode series around London. Certain it would be well recieved.

@@Joolzguides : Honest question, have you pitched to BBC for a similar show idea? [and now have a 'Tony Hayers' moment you can share? I am descended of Thomas Gresham. So thanks for this closer view of The Royal Exchange, as an American it was really nice to have a look inside. The Grasshopper is part of the Gresham Coat of Arms (they were from Norfolk). The Greshams not only built The Royal Exchange, they were head of the Guild of Fishmongers (but also dealt in a lot shipping/exporting - including fine cloth), High Sherrifs of London, they built colleges & created boys schools. I read that there is still a Gresham College in London. In Norfolk (can't recall the town right now) the school for boys has now developed into an elite school for all ages for both boys & girls. In this town you apparently find the grasshoppers everywhere (on signs, buildings, etc).

Btw....Joolz can you provide the link for the original vid that you took of the Royal Exchange? I'd like to see more. Also, the Gresham's supposedly had a massive house on the Old Roman Road do you have any more vids on that area? (I did see one where it was all big bank buildings now).

What a treat, spent my entire working life in various locations in the City, and most lunch hours just walking around looking at the architecture. Now retired but live across the field from Sir Michael Gambon and five minutes away from Cobham where Charles Dickens spent a great deal of time so appreciate references to Harry Potter and Dickens stories. Looking forward to part 2.

This is entertaining and interesting. Thanks, Joolz! I came to this as an AP Geography Teacher and plan to have my American students watch to see if they can use the tour and commentary to make deductions about the city's past and the lives of Londoners and the way they have changed. I was though at one time a lawyer and worked in the City, just near the Turkish bathhouse. There's another good story associated with it which is not mentioned here. At some point in the 1980s when the baths closed, the space was used for document storage. When however the document owners came to retrieve them in order to check something, they found that they had all turned to pulp, having absorbed all the moisture that had seeped into the walls over many years. It was then closed as a document storage space! That's presumably when it was redone for corporate entertaining.
