I liked the first one...I believe it was standard setting and no external mike. Very clear and natural. Awesome porch dude!
@JordanKeyes8 жыл бұрын
I prefer using the external mic. Helps reduce wind noise and handling noise, and makes it a more direct sound. Without a mic, it's a much wider, more natural sound, but you get a lot of external ambient noise that you may not want.

@ColoradoEveryday8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review. I just installed the mic adapter and did the TheAdamBlack modification using a replacement enclosure. I can't believe how bad the internal mic on the gopro hero 5 is. Way too much boomyness. The external mic fixes that but at quite an overall cost.

GOPRO is simply just punishing their customers because they bought HERO5 camera, I am pro photographer and have in camera equipment over $50K, but nobody from "big guns" companies did what they are doing.... How somebody can possible make for own product microphone connection what you have to buy adaptor with the same connection and don't even have own GOPRO microphone.... plus doesn't work with GOPRO gimbal, actually the connector is bulky what what will be impossible for gimbal to be in level..... Instead making horrible gimbals, useless drones and shitting your customers away what about working on Bluetooth microphone, whats the purpose of action camera if you can use it only as regular point and shoot, hope more people will step away from your product soon as possible, it should be illegal to make a product with mind to ripoff the customer !!!!!!!!! GOPRO CRAP!!!!

Just watched your video, that's odd. You said it doesn't work with some mics, have you tested it with other mics and had it work? What setting did you turn on inside the camera? Standard, Non-powered? Also, just have to ask, the mic you're using, does it work with other cameras? Is it a TRS or TRRS (smartphone) plug?
@ANDREW2477 жыл бұрын

Hello, a question please. I dabble with video recording a bit, but not an expert in any way. I never used my GoPro 5 hero black with a MIC, just camera's mikes; and whatever sound was recorded on the videos came out ok. Meaning I heard the sound on both ears using my headphones or earbuds (I use them a lot, mainly to avoid bothering other people). I never even questioned if the sound was stereo or mono because it was not important to me. What was important is that I heard the videos on BOTH channels. Yesterday for the FIRST time I used a little lapel mic with the $50 adapter that allows you to record using a mike. But the sound that came out only sounds on ONE channel / ear, and that really bothers me. Also when editing the clips using Vegas Pro 16, the same thing, I can only hear sound on one channel. You would think Vegas Pro should be able to split the "one channel sound" so that I could hear it on both channels, and it probably can! but I am just not familiar with this issue and how to fixit using VP16 if there is a way. Meanwhile, not the end of the world, but I was wondering if you have an idea of what I am talking about? and if so, how could I fix the problem? TIA E.M.
@GadgetReviewVideos8 жыл бұрын
So, I know this is a weird question but you seem to know what your talking about 😎 If you plug the adapter in, and set the setting to line in. Then don't plug any mic in will it cut off the sound completely? I do some recording over an HDMI capture system and I provide my own mic audio into this capture system. My other cameras I can set the mic gain to manual and just turn the build in camera mics off. But the GoPro out the audio over the hdmi cable and I can't seem to turn if off. Would be a nice firmware add, turn mics off. But I can't seem to find a way to do this so I was thinking if I plugged this in, and didn't connect a mic up to the 1/8 jack but still provided power then maybe the video would transmit over hdmi using LIVE hdmi out and not have any audio with the hdmi signal and fix my issue. Currently since it give audio over hdmi and I have better mics into the mixer the. I end up with a double echo audio feed in the video that's impossible to edit out post processing since both are recorded in the hard with the same audio file. So cam you try this? It would be great to know, or I will have no choice but to return it.
@JordanKeyes8 жыл бұрын
Done and done. Hero5 + USB-C audio adapter + "Line In" selected + no mic attached = in-camera audio Hero5 + USB-C audio adapter + "Line In" selected + powered mic connected, but powered off = NO audio So if you've got a mic that requires power that you could plug in, leave it turned off, you'd be good to go.
@GadgetReviewVideos8 жыл бұрын
Jordan Keyes Thanks, that's awesome you checked with a phantom powered mic also. I appreciate the extra for a comment reply, most people don't even reply these days. I know I try to reply and help everyone with a question, but I'm not even close to your sub rate so I couldn't imagine the amount of comments you get. Well since I knew their are ways to hack a mini USB cable as the drones are doing for FPV flight on the Hero4 silver and 4 black I originally was looking for that one. Only because the viewing for linear is in the 5.0 firmware. 4K isn't on the radar and I dint see it being a need for a while. I could not find a silver for a justifiable price, I paid $359 for the 5, so 399 for a silver in a store didn't make sense. Used, possible option but these things get beat up so it's more of a risk and 299, same as on Amazon. I like buying local incase something is wrong. I didn't think Costco had any in stock but I called around today and found one, the last one in the area. I drove fast and scored it, even better I got the solver at 199 with external battery charger, two batteries, extra mounts, back plates, and a Sam disk 16GB MicroSD card. So I guess the 5 is going back and I'll figure out a cable hack to turn off the mic on the 4 silver or buy a cheaper external mic box even if it doesn't pass power since I have two batteries now anyway and hack that box to act like it has a phantom mic plugged in and switched off. But again, thanks for checking that, now I have an idea how I need to mod the mic accessory to make it work for me. Scott

Hi. Thankyou for the review. Im new to Gopro, but have got myself a gopro hero 5 along with a Feiyu G5 gimbal. Unfortunately, theres audio issues with the build in mic when using with a gimbal. But since this gopro audio adapter is relatively big/heavy, it would definitely affect the gimbal's motors, so I was hoping to attach the audio adapter to the gimbal handle itself, but this would require the adapter to be connected to the gopro for an extension cable. Hello Jordan, I just bought a GoPro Hero5 and I am totally confused here. I need an external mic that works with the gopro 5 adaptor you show in the video. I do content videos in KZbin and need something that will work well in my office mostly. What do you suggest? Have you ever tried the BOYA BY-LM20 Lapel Clip-On Omnidirectional Condenser Lavalier Microphone with 2.5mm Mic Adapter they offer with this mic? (I read wonderful reviews about this external mic) 1) I don't know if this mic with Gopro original adapter works for the gopro5. 2) I don't know if this mic works with the adapter they sell together with the package at amazon (not sure they sell original adapter) 3) If not, what do you suggest? Looking at the BOYA BY-LM20 on Amazon, I don't see any that come with a USB Type-C adapter, so I'm pretty sure it won't work with the Hero5 out of the box. I haven't tried it, but on the Hero5 I know there was an option for Line In, so it might work.

I absolutely will never buy another GoPro - I am glad they are failing as a company. This is such a bullshit thing to do. They know what their customers use the cameras for. The price is already over the top and then this surprise. For a motorcycle vlogger, you have to find room to fit this dam thing. Also to use the waterproof case with a microphone you have to drill holes in it and there for it's no longer waterproof, surely given what people use these for a little bit of design thought ...... The guy that started the company was just interested in taking massive amounts of money out of the company to buy his Jet and Boat he was not in it for the long term judging by how badly the company took it's eye off the ball. They missed the drone market completely. Also the obvious lack of design thought in the GoPro, it's just awful - For example, My SJCam, I can take the SD Card out or charge the battery when in it's cradle (non waterproof case for mounting on a helmet) - To charge the GoPro or take the SD card out I have take it out of the very snug case everytime. As I said I'm glad they are failing, the competition are already over taking them.

sorry if I disturb you again, I have the mic adapter but I still have to buy microphone. I want to spend maximum around 30 euros and at the same time have a good quality audio... I'm very confused... What is the microphone you used on the video... because you sent me two links and the socond one (Lavalier) I can't afford!

Hi I was just wondering if I have a cheep mic adapter for the hero 5 will it work if I put those special settings on for the mic adapter? Thanks

I've tried 3rd party cheaper mic adapters for the Hero5, and they did not work for me. The "Audio Input" section always showed N/A, meaning it didn't see the microphone.
