Just want to answer Jordan's question, "$20,000, is that how much wedding dresses are?" On average, no. $20,000 is on the higher, (much higher) end. On average, wedding dresses are between $500 and $5,000. It is still a lot, but not as high as $20,000.

Unfortunately, I don't have Sara's sewing skills. At best, I can hand-stitch a hole in a shirt or whatever - and it is barely passable. If I had her skills, I would absolutely custom make my own dress. I imagine Sara had spent years to hone her craft. I think even if I spent a year to learn to sew more, I would still end up getting frustrated because the dress wouldn't come out like I would want it to - so I'd end up buying a wedding dress anyways. Lol! That being said, I do have decent graphic design skills, so I will be creating my own wedding stationary. I'm excited to be able to add that personal touch to my wedding should I get married.

This reminds me a lot of my wedding! My husband and I just celebrated 21 years of marriage. When we git married we had $2000 and ended up only spending $1600. So many friends and family helped us plan and organize it and it was perfect! My dress was $42.02 at an outlet store, the cake was gifted to us, the large backyard for our reception was free (people jumped on the large trampoline and played football), the tux rentals and church fee were the most expensive things! The flowers only cost $75. I got so many compliments, it was a great day.

Love this! I also have a hard time believing people spend as much money as they do on weddings😶 My wedding didn't cost much either. Venue: Free! Our neighbors owned a christmas tree farm and let us use the barn Dress: Paid $15 at a thrift store and had it altered for $35= $50 Food: my mom cooked everything! Basically a chicken dinner with a fall twist since we got married in autumn. I wanted to pay my parents for all the food they bought (we didn't invite a ton of people but the food was the most expensive part of our wedding) but they wouldn't tell me how much it had cost. Photographer: Free! My aunt took all our photos Hair and make up: also free. My best friend went to cosmetology school so she volunteered to do it, gratis Cake: My then fiance made 3 cheesecakes, because he makes the best cheesecake in the word. Those were approx $35 per cake, so a little over $100 for those I bought a few random decorations for the barn, like a garland for the center pole and some tablecloths but I don't it amounted to more than $50. I skipped some stuff for my wedding that people normally have like bridesmaids and sound. I didn't have any music for the ceremony and just made a cd of my favorite songs to play during the reception afterwards. We dated for a couple months then got engaged and then married 4 months later. We'll be married for 6 years come October. Edited to say I forgot about flowers! My sister grew a lovely patch of fall colored zinnias and I made my bouquet out of them the morning of the wedding. A pack of zinnia seeds is cheap! Less than a buck

Yay! So glad you guys did this video after the livestream. My engagement was 10 months and it flew by! My dress got ordered in November and it didn't arrive until March. The lady in the shop said I had so little time (10 months) that there were some dresses in the shop I couldn't even look at/choose from as they wouldn't arrive til after my wedding!! But there's no waaaaay I could have made my dress. I was oraganising a two cultures wedding with half of the wedding coming from a different country and bridesmaids and groomsmen in all kinds of countries and cities so it was stressful, so glad I didn't have to do it in 12 weeks! I crammed so much in. I would say the guestlist took us 12 weeks alone hahaha. But wow, Sara is the woman who keeps on surprising with her talents. Made her own dress AND her own cake!? You go girl.

I really enjoyed this and I think sharing how you did it will be helpful for lots of couples! My husband and I got married in the middle of the afternoon, between Christmas and new years in our home church. Our decorations were greenery and white lights - basically we just took down the Christmas decorations we didn't want. We also had a few hors d'oeuvres instead of a meal - which saved a bunch, and I got a dress at David's Bridal for only $99
@joyfuljaj4 жыл бұрын
My brother and sister-in-law got married in their small home church the week before Christmas. They just asked the church that year if they would use all white poinsettias instead of a mix of colors. The bride's family are lifelong members and my brother was the music director, so they were able to request with no problem. The family may very well have been in charge of decorating the church for Christmas anyway. The children's choir from the church did some music and both the bride and groom had friends who provided music (my brother was a music major in college). The reception was in the small fellowship hall with white Christmas lights and I think food from church or family members. (also, no big meal but still enough to not be hungry) My brother had worked for a company that did weddings, so they gifted him a groom's cake and my sister-in-law bought her cake from them. My brother did the sound - I think just a CD player (late 90s so i don't think there were computer play lists). That's the kind of wedding I want, I just don't know if there will be people around to pull one off. Right now I go to a huge church so it is more difficult to create an intimate atmosphere without more decoration. The biggest issue right now though is lack of a groom!

I feel you guys! My husband and I had a 14 week engagement on a budget of $5000. Slightly longer time but I feel you guys on minimizing price by doing things yourself, or reusing previous things in my case (i.e. I wore my mom's wedding dress and used some of the stuff my sister had from her wedding which she'd had not long before). And people from church volunteered to do things like the food and cake for free as a gift excepting cost of materials, and we ended up using CD's for all our music, so a lot of it worked out really well for minimizing costs. Honestly the most money was spent on photography of anything. 🙌 Overall that's awesome! Great work Jordan and Sara! Sara, your dress was beeee-youuuuuuuu-teeful!! Love it!!

I had a longer engagement because I had a year of college left, but my wedding was also about $3,000. DIY-ing was also my main strategy, as well as cheap venues. Ceremony - outdoors at a Bible camp that had a pretty setup with benches and lots of trees nearby. There was a chapel in case it rained. $75, I think? Really cheap. Reception venue - a gym that's frequently rented for parties and receptions. Not gorgeous, but it came with tables/chairs and was easy to decorate. I think about $275. My dress - purchased on eBay for $50, altered it myself with new material, adding up to less than $100. Invitations - designed myself, with postage and printing less than $150. Photography - a friend did it for a discounted (and just-starting-out) price. $400, and they were wonderful. Flowers - bought bulk blue hydrangeas. Arranged bouquets myself with some baby's breath. Every table had a stem or two in a glass jar (my mother-in-law had a stash of old canning jars in her basement). I also cut some fern fronds from my MIL's backyard. $300, I think for the hydrangeas. Centerpieces were branches I arranged, hot glued together, and spray painted gold. We had a brunch wedding, which tends to be less expensive. I catered through a grocery store chain, which was cheap but still tasty. I don't remember the cost for sure--I think around $1000. Friends of mine made cinnamon rolls for everyone's dessert as a gift. I made my own cake for my husband/me/the bridal party. It wasn't a traditional wedding cake, but it was delicious. We didn't do dancing, but a friend with audio equipment hooked up a microphone for speeches/played background music. Audio was free. I did my hair, and my sister-in-law did my makeup. Other decorations were borrowed or bought cheaply. We did buy disposable plates and things for food, but those were the major expenses. My wedding was fairly casual, but we loved it, and our family and friends were happy. A DIY wedding may not be super "fancy," but it can still be beautiful. You just need time, some crafting/planning skills, and some help.

What I would really like to know is how being responsible for preparation influenced the way you felt on the day. Especially Sara, seeing how she seems to have done 99% of everything lol Were you not too tired to enjoy the day, gurl?? I don't even mean being pampered, just normal amount of human resources... How about you family - I'm guessing your Dad did a photoshoot rather than stayed on duty all night, but did you get any photos of the party? Usually DJing is also a job for the whole time of dancing, did Josh not dance at all or did you take a more relaxed approach and used, like, playlists and stuff? I guess I might be thinking more in terms of how these things are done as a profession, certainly it has to be more relaxed this home-made way. But I'm still curious. Ah, also, you didn't mention Jordan's suit, I'm guessing he already had one? It seems such an amazing way to organise things. Completely personal and unique, and tbh it seems like it could in many ways be less stressful, even though the workload is incomparably bigger. If I ever marry, God willing, I would like it to be like that. But as you said, it's not gonna work out quite as beautifully for everyone.

I have no wedding plans, but I love this video because if I did get married, this kind of resourcefulness is exactly what I would put into planning it, especially making my own dress. I just planned and held an unofficial college graduation ceremony for myself and a close friend yesterday, to make up for the effects of the pandemic. We got together with a handful of good friends and created a proper ceremony, even enlisting one of our professors as the speaker and having fun fake diplomas. 😊(My real one will come in the mail soon, I'm told...)

I'm not the type to be pampered. I'll do anything to save money! Glad to see others who agree!

Wow, Sara is a superwoman! That's great that you managed to keep the expenses so low, props to you guys! Personally I don't think 12 weeks would work for me simply because in my case, family and friends of my partner and I live in different countries, thus they'd need a bit longer notice to arrange the actual coming to the wedding part. If we were all closer I feel like it'd be a lot easier!

Love it! Ours was a 4 month engagement that we still felt was long, and less than $2000 total, but still beautiful and "us." ❤ It is totally possible!

This inspires my fiancé and I so much. We are on a tight timeline as I will be moving with him out of state to go to grad school in August 2024. I am waiting to hear back from a venue but I definitely want to make it happen before then if possible :)

My sister made her own wedding dress and cake as well! She's really talented with sewing and cake baking and decorating so her dress and the cake of course looked AMAZING.

I LOVE this! My husband purposed in November 2018 and we were married January 2019. Short engagements are the best!!

Best weddings I've ever been to were very relaxed. One was in the yard of a 300 year old barn in a public park. We scouted the location 20 minutes before the wedding. Second was also in a public park on a deck over a song bird garden. Found 30 minutes before the wedding. Both couples decided on a park and that they would just find the best place at the time. Both had wedding dinners- very small guest list. They were both wonderful.

My husband and I also did a 3 month engagement. It was enough time to plan everything (we were also keeping it low cost) and still not be overwhelmed.

I hope to have a DIY wedding where it won't cost a lot either. Thanks for showing how it can be done, even with a short engagement timespan too!

Short engagements for the win!! Also don’t decide to do things like make the cakes yourself if you don’t want to be over-stressed!

We had the same timeline and budget! I'm definitely not as talented as Sara though, lol. But it is possible to have a super nice wedding on a budget if you get creative and don't have too high of expectations. :) Venue is definitely the hardest for sure! Great job guys, it's refreshing to see "outside the box" ideas. And I wish I had more skills like Sara.♥️

That was such a great video, and a lovely treat for a Saturday! I thought you would have made this two years ago, to be honest hahaha! But great job putting your wedding together in such a short time and so economically. And beautiful photographs, too!

I think possibly the most difficult part of getting married in that short of a time would be getting the venue or vendors if you didn't have connections. My parents had a short engagement so I always thought long engagements were crazy. My mother also mentioned she didn't have enough time for things to go wrong! I don't want to spend a bunch on a wedding if I ever get to have one, but I'm not a big organized person to get things done. My thoughts run like "what if I get the venue for a certain date and then the photographer I would like is not available?" (not that I know what photographer I would get. I know some, but probably could not afford them!) I did have a friend with a decent sized wedding who told me she wished she would have planned with a shorter engagement. By the time 5 months had passed, she had everything done and just wanted to be married, but still had time to wait. She told me "You can plan a wedding in 5 months". I do cake decorating for fun, but would really need to practice tiered cakes to attempt a wedding cake. i don't trust I know enough about cooking cakes ahead of time and saving so that I could spend time the day before decorating. Plus, I don't trust my transport capabilities. The biggest thing to remember is that the marriage is what is important. At the end of the day, if you are married to the person you intend to spend the rest of your life with then all should be well.

Way to go guys!! We got married a year ago and the total for everything was around 5500. This includes photos dress venue decor invites programs bridesmaids dresses shoes hair basically everything 😂 So thankful for family who helped pull off a do it yourself wedding. I didn't want to spend large amounts of money for only one day. We still had a gorgeous wedding and so many people said they just loved it and how beautiful it all was☺️❤️

You spent less on the whole wedding than most women on "Yes to the Dress" spend on just their dress. Ya'll are truly amazing.

Me after watching this video "Wow that's awesome I could totally put together my wedding myself, I should start working on that! Oh, wait... I don't even have a boyfriend." LOL
