Don't shoot without a setup should be #1 for both wrestlers and BJJ guys alike. Great video, solid stuff.

Definitely! Thank you!

The setup can be as simple as using a snap down
@josephbreza-grappling945910 ай бұрын
@@ninobach7456no doubt, but when people are standing upright, it’s an inefficient method-unless you can push him hard enough to commit to pushing back. On of my biggest grievances with BJJ rules is that they don’t call stalling for backing up like they do in wrestling. If you’re just backing up, you’re not trying to get anything done. So, changing that rule will have a massive impact

At 1:46. I see a lot hand fighting like that. Usually the stronger bigger dude will win the battle if you clash your hands like that. And sometimes I see it and it works. It depends on the state of your opponent

As a former wrestler who often competes against upright-standing judokas, I'm definitely going to use the stiff arm to single. I usually just blast double, but this is much more efficient.
@CoachKevanKillsit11 ай бұрын
Same! You could probably also bait someone into lowering their stance after a few stiff arm singles too.

Mind the arm bar, if he gets his legs around the post arm, there will be grief

Hear in michigan we got lots a good wrestling let's just say the judoka I have rolled with don't fall for that let's just say they set their giallotine traps so to say
@josephbreza-grappling945910 ай бұрын
@@CoachKevanKillsitoh dude 100%!!! This is exactly how I taught heavyweights in highschool how to wrestle. I would get some big football players and teach them a stiff arm single, elbow post single, blast double, and then a good push to a snap front headlock off the opponent’s push back. They could go from not knowing what to do to owning people on the mat. I would tell them to just avoid collar ties and follow that method. It was crazy how effective it was

Easier on your neck than the blast double too

Great video Jordan! I believe a lot of people don't realize just how important the standing game is and some gyms don't even teach much standing game which is crucial in competition. This video is great to learn the stand up game that you can't learn anywhere else.

Don’t finish a double leg without looking at the ceiling, or don’t double leg at all. This has been my biggest lesson coming into bjj. I walked into so many guillotines the first couple of months

Learn guillotine escapes and you will not be afraid of doing double legs again
@josephbreza-grappling945910 ай бұрын
That’s right! Because when you look up, your back is straight and then you don’t get choked. So many people comment how they will just guillotine me from my shots. That never happens to me. First of all, I don’t just stand there, I am instantly moving to finishes, but also my posture makes it difficult. Now the d’arce on the ground is different. I hate that damn choke, lol
@josephbreza-grappling945910 ай бұрын
@@giovannimendez4672exactly!! I say the same thing about back control. In scholastic wrestling, you have to be on bottom with him on your back. So you train from there. I don’t worry when someone gets on my back. Hand control first and now he has a much harder time doing anything. Then you use classic wrestling to escape. I show that on the instructional too

What I am showing here is classic wrestling technique that I have been using since the early 1990s. That just shows how much there for BJJ to learn on their feet. I use a lot of the same things for heavyweight wrestlers (stiff arm singles) because of their posture

That was a really great pointer about getting frustrated and trying to transition to the body from a single. You feel like you’re in a strong position, but the power of the opponent’s hips makes you quite vulnerable.
@josephbreza-grappling945910 ай бұрын
It’s the big illusion that so many people are not seeing yet. My highschool wrestlers owned people in that position, because wrestlers talked and worked on it so much. When people would get tired, they would get to that side bodylock and not be able to lift. My guys would just send them to their backs and end up on kesa getame (head and arm in wrestling). Like the worst place to be in wrestling when you’re tired, because you have to keep that far shoulder off the mat or you are pinned
