I wold love @scriptureplus to address the Council of fifty, and how it is related to Joseph Smith's presidential run.

The Council of 50 not only crowned Joseph as “king of the world”, but also assisted him in his plans to recruit several Native American tribes to attack the US Government!

I love your dedication and work. As a non member, can you help me understand why Brigham Young said so many pro slavery statements? Were he and Joseph in different sects of the Mormon church?
@ToaRahkshi6 ай бұрын
Can't tell you why he said those things; but interesting thing about the "different sects" question. He, and another man named Sidney Rigden were viewed as either of the two to replace Joseph Smith when he died. Joseph wanted the 12 apostles to run the church in the meantime until Jesus Christ chooses another apostle to become His prophet. Sidney claimed to have the approval of Joseph before his death, but many dispute that. Ultimately, the 12 apostles did run the church for a bit until The Lord called Brigham Young to become His prophet. Sidney Rigden would ultimately form his own branch of the LDS church.

The only thing I can think of is that he was a covert from another faith I’m not sure which one but most churches agreed with slavery

Brigham was somewhat racist. Probably less than average for a 19th century southerner, but still racist. He also had to deal with a lot of political jockeying. His priority was trying to keep the Saints alive while the US was breathing down their necks. This meant not rustling feathers and maintaining the balance between free states and slave states. You also have to keep in mind that while Brigham’s more sensational quotes are often cherry-picked and shared across the internet, his more gracious quotes are often forgotten. This is compounded by the fact that Brigham Young was known to have a big bark, but little bite. He preached fire and brimstone, but practiced humility and forgiveness. When determining what Brigham Young actually taught and thought, it’s best to look at his actions rather than his words, looking beneath the surface to see what the actual practical impact of his decisions was, rather than how he advertised them while in the public eye.

So if Joseph Smith was anti slavery then why did Brigham Young allow slave labor to be used as a form of tithing?

I believe this is why he was ultimately killed. He wanted. To end slavery and allow freedom of religion everywhere in our country. That is why he was killed.

The name of this channel says it all 😒 scripture “plus”. It’s scripture and nothing else. Mormons added their book to the Bible. It’s heresy.
