Josh didn’t drive it, he flew in. He is one of several captains of the Cornelia Marie - right now the person running it is named “Dusty”. It’s in Valdez Alaska right now. And the CM isn’t a 15 knot boat… more like 10 knots…

Jake has nobody to blame but himself and he was a mess long before his father died and it's sad that he uses his dad's death to justify his behaviour. There is tragedy and then there is self inflicted tragedy. Self inflicted tragedy does not knock at your door . You give it your address and tell it to come on over the door is open.. Jake was getting high and then going up to drive the boat putting the crew on danger.. The guy could not even keep his shit together to stay with his father in the hospital to be with him while he was dying He was all alone and Josh found jake at the hotel drinking and then bails to head back to seattle to go to rehab instead of putting his needs on hold for a. Couple of days and tend to his dying father.. jake had people bending over backwards to help him and has resources most people cannot even dream off and he just slowed everyone in the race . Some people are just not good people and some are completely selfish and narcissistic. Jake was an addict he manipulated people long before his father died. Which is why he is where he is . Jake had all the natural ability and intelligence to be where josh is right now and he had people willing to help him get their .The Hansen's wanted to train him to be a leader and captain and he put in effort into it and did show any desire for it. He wants it all handed to him Josh was not the naturally gifted fisherman and things came harder for him he really had to work hard and dedicate himself to get where he is know. Everyone has their demons but and lots of people need help but you can only burn so many bridges and swat away so many life lines before sympathy for you dries up.

Jake has or at least had natural talent. Unfortunately natural talent can be a curse. If things come naturally then you never have to train at focusing yourself and persisting. Natural talent can only get you so far. At some point you will need perseverance. An untalented person will develop the skill of perseverance and have it when needed IF they get to that point. I don’t think any of us know for sure, but it seems like Jake was unlucky with natural talent and Josh has been lucky without natural talent. Like Neji versus Rock Lee for any Naruto fans. I think likening Jake to Neji is respectful.

Right, and they don't. They're crab fishermen. Not towboat operators, or freighter captains. Plus, it's a fuckin TV show.. Lot of shit is done for entertainment value. If you don't like it.. Just don't watch it. I've worked on boats of all sizes a good portion of my life. I've seen 2 real stupid guys driving pos forklifts, doing a dumbass ballet, load bigger boats that that onto an enclosed car deck on a 140 foot ferry boat, while I'm holding it to the dock using a spring line, both main engines and an anemic bow thruster.... So what? That doesn't make me an expert on anything. I'm just an asshole with a captains license.. And there's a lot of assholes with captains licenses. I know they dramatize a lot of this stuff.. But I'm not here to see a 12 hour boring shift of everyday, non-eventful work on deck.. I don't think many other people would stick around for that either. Even a show made up entirely of all the craziest, dumbest, riskiest shit we've ever done, would be a pretty boring terrible show after like 2 episodes.. If it offends you that bad.. Just move along and let people who are just looking for a little escapism enjoy themselves. Not everything has to be dead serious all the time. You don't go to the theater and stand up and start bitching about how "everyone knows superheroes can't fly" and then start lecturing everyone on the laws of physics do you?
