Fantastic and informative - useful for non-engineers to hear that a Wind Tunnel is a tool that must be used correctly for accurate data. 👍

Thanks for your great videos ! I can’t find any talks on gravel aero wheel : is it a real gain? And what about balancing wheels (with magnets ) : is it still recommended with wheel evolution (not only an aero question yes) If these questions were already exposed could you share the link of the podcast ? Thanks !

A question for Josh, how does tire wear affect performance? i was thinking about this since quite some time. My assumption is that aerodynamically they get a lot worse as they get squarish, but probably Crr gets better as the rubber becomes thinner. So does it make sense to always mount new tires in front first, then move it to the back wheel once it gets a flat spot in the center?

A few comments: 1. I like this episode a lot. 2. I like wind tunnels a lot: if I had cheap access to one, I'd spend all my time in it. I field test cuz I'm poor and, like many academics, my time is worth nothing. 3. To the very last segment, tunnels tend to be about what you can attain; field tests are more about what you can sustain. 4. Josh thinks in terms of "grams" of drag. I think in terms of business cards: a standard business card has a CdA of about .006 m^2, and that's (mostly) independent of air speed. A sheet of A4 paper has a CdA of about .075 m^2, and that's the difference between a pretty good amateur TT position and a world-class TT position.

We're going to the tunnel with Dylan in March.. you should come out! Maybe I'll make some 'business' card bits that we can mount on the bikes to test it out.. I like that as a unit, it's like how we know talk about watt savings around friction in terms of Ceramic OSPW's.. it definitely resonates with people when you say 'this tire is 5 OSPW kits faster than that one'!

The other thing to do is trace out your hand on a sheet of paper, calc its area, then multiply by ~1.28 (roughly the Cd of a flat sheet). For me, that's about 3.5 business cards. Then, when traveling at X mph in the car, roll down the window, stick your hand out. That's how much drag that CdA means. @@SILCAVelo

I've never ridden the Omnium, but have ridden the Bullit and Urban Aero as well as dozens of others and find that Bullit and UA have both nailed the center of gravity with their very low loading platforms. The Urban Arrow in particular even has some aero aspects to the design which is very cool!
