If there's one thing that amazes me about this game it's that the voiceover artist for the intro was able to put emotional gravitas into her performance despite the fact the script was a series of completely nonsensical statements jammed together.

@@DustinBarlow8P I find that Asian players, and developers, don't really understand the point of an MMO; that dungeon was pretty much a testament to that since none of them spoke to one another, none waited for the other players and there were no tactics. They treat MMO's like dungeon crawlers, or a MOBA, like Diablo or League of Legends. The game could fix this by level-locking, or level-balancing, the dungeons.

As someone who lives on the coast in scotland, the seagull quest is very accurate. Seagulls are the rats of the sky and if you do not have any edible offerings for them - or if you withhold your food from them - they will attack without prejudice. One almost tore my thumb off in its quest to steal the piece of mango that was on the end of my wooden knife, then it stood there with the knife in its beak, my blood dripping from its feathers, and stared at the rest of my fruit. All I could do was run away. (this is a dramatised version of a real thing that happened to me lmao, I understand the girl's fear 🤣)

@Demonfoxx42
@Demonfoxx42 2 жыл бұрын
@@youtube-kit9450 TL:DR will be at the bottom 4e is the combat edition. Fun if you like fighting, not so much if you want to roleplay too. It had the standard actions (Major, Minor, Movement, Free, etc) that you could do each turn, but you could do a ton more with those actions naturally as every class. On top of that classes had even more designed roles in combat then other editions, it's where terms like Striker, Controller, Defender, and Leader popped up with D&D. Classes had a role and it was harder to escape it. It also added Powers to each class that made them Psuedo-Spell Casters, such as: At-Wills (Minor powers with weaker boons that you can cast every round as long as you have the action (Cantrips)), Encounter Powers (Middling powers that are relatively strong but you can only do once per encounter (Spells that can only be used once per fight instead of relying on spell slots), and Daily Powers (Extremely strong powers with either great damage or boons, but can only be used once per day (Most traditionally like spending a spell slot, but only for that specific spell)). Each class usually had 3 At-Wills, 2 Encounters, and 1 Daily at low levels and gained more as they got higher in level. On top of that it was easier to get a lot of health in 4e, as well as to heal without a healer (Dwarves had a feat that let them use their health dice to heal when taking the dodge action for example.) With all of this Combat was a lot more dynamic and flashy, and honestly kinda fun when handled well, but it would often grind to a slow halt because enemies had to be strong enough to withstand it and give back about as much. So a lot of fights turned into slapping matches of who could withstand the other's powers/out last their resources while having inflated hp pools/defenses. Then the final nail in the coffin was that, as the Combat Edition, RP took a massive back seat as far as core rules went. Yeah, you could do RP stuff, and some classes had RP buffs like Paladins which had some powers that boosted diplomacy a lot, but for the most part everything revolved around combat and the new At-Wills/Encounters/Dailies. So if you liked combat you were set, but if you wanted a bit more RP meat in that Battle Soup (Like most people did) you were a bit more out of luck without Homeruling and heavy DM effort. TL:DR 4E was all about combat, Classes were locked even harder into specific roles (Striker, Controller, Defender, Leader), it introduced a lot of mechanics like At-Will Powers (Weak), Encounter Powers (Middling), and Daily Powers (Extremely Strong), and enemies were often buffed to handle said powers leading to inflated fight times. Mix that in with how little 4e really supported RP or outside combat situations and you have people who over all dislike it for those reasons.

24:01 Actually, there's one thing I really appreciate when I see it implemented in worlds with fixed enemy levels. And that is low-level enemies should feel threatened by out presence and shouldn't attack on sight. Preferably stepping a bit away when you are too close, but whatever. There's nothing more annoying than a level 2 wolf in a starting area attacking you. Hilarious, but annoying as hell. Especially when game have mounts, but drop you from a mount whenever there's an enemy nearby aggro at you or swift enough to hit you. And in some games this gets even worse when you are in a group and game un-mounts everyone in a group as soon as someone triggers a combat.
@shirrenthewanderer414

I played it back in the beta, then a little after launch. As far as the actual combat and things go, it's good. I enjoyed it. The problem, is that during the beta, everyone worked together. It was a surprise really, everyone worked together to fight big bosses, people were healing each other even though they were just randoms in the world, people were actually having legit conversations in the chat about the game and world (helped that mods/devs were in chat asking for opinions). It was just a great time all around. But then the full release happened. Open world PvP was hard to avoid, and super annoying. People barely worked together anymore once you got past the super early tutorial area. The whole game just instantly lost the charm it had, entirely down to the playerbase expanding and changing. Which sucks, but the game during beta, was great. I loved it. I was super excited when the full release happened, had it installed day-1, ready to go. But...nah. It was nowhere near as fun as the beta was. Like, once the beta ended and the full game came out, it just stopped feeling like it's own thing and started feeling like every other generic MMO. A fairly high quality generic MMO, but still a generic MMO, complete with pointless nothing quests, every player ignoring every other player, and ridiculous costume sets that look absolutely ridiculous and ruin the aesthetic of the game.

I felt the disappointment as soon as that dungeon run happened. Any MMO I've tried to get into that allowed higher level players to just run it through with the new players, the fun immediately disappears. Happens in ESO sometimes. When they get mad at me for not keeping up with them I get so close to flaming them. They do the group finder dungeons for the bonuses. They could just find the dungeon themselves on the map, but they don't. They squeeze out every minescule bonus they can and make the experience awful for everyone else. Thankfully, I've had experiences in dungeons that were much better. Have had many many people carry me and my friend through some very difficult dungeons. They've been very nice in the chat too, so it far offsets the one absolute douche canoe.

Regarding 39:06 : In my experience the only MMOs where people sit and kill the mobs are the ones that force the group to kill the mobs before they can move forward through various barriers. Even in GW2 fractals people just run past enemy groups because it's faster and it makes for garbage first time runs for people when match making. It's like every MMO is stuck in the past and nobody wants to have discussions on how to move forward with some of the obvious flaws that exist for at least 2 decades now.

I also think they're a good idea, based on my own experiences in Tera way before the game died. I went through non-endgame dungeons on some characters, and didn't on others, and I found that I had a far easier time in endgame if I had gone through earlier dungeons, because getting to max level grinding mobs or doing quests doesn't teach you how to play your class in a dungeon setting. going through dungeons does. and at the time I played Tera, there weren't any real punishments for dying before endgame, so if your party wiped in a dungeon the only thing you lost was the time spent in the run. it was a great way to learn dungeon mechanics and how to work in a team, before you got to the point where you'd be running into more serious players who just wanted to get their daily dungeon run over and done with

Hey Josh! I have a suggestion for an MMO you could try out: Silkroad Online. It was one of the first MMOs that I ever played back in 2006. The system was intriguing because apart from your class, you could be a trader and lead your own little caravan with good from one ingame city to another, you could be a thief, who was able to attack the traders or you could be a guard and protect the traders. Being a trader was awful, you got greifed by high level thiefs, the game was a botfest and the ingame economy was broken from the start...

I actually put a little over 1600 hours into this game. 😅 It was a pretty awesome experience, and as you played higher dimensional dungeons, the difficulty was really enjoyable to grind with friends. (Similar concept of mythic+ in WoW) I also smoked a lot of weed at the time, so the grind wasn't the worst. 😅 Its one of those games where you actually got to experience your grind seriously developing your character. Items could be purchased; however it involved selling on the market and grinding your heart out to obtain currency unless you were an RMT'er. The real development of a character was getting the skill points from a separate "SP" experience bar that was rewarded for quest completion. At the end of the day. The devs did continue to harm the actual game itself. Nerf after nerf on progression led to most of the original people on the server switching to something new. However, if I found another game in the future similar to this one. (Most definitely not by Round 8 Studios) I would totally get into it!

I think this was my first ever mmo, and I played it on launch on console with 2 buddies. I was mage, one was a berserker, and the other a support. I honestly thought I had a good time leveling with them, but it seems they changed a WHOLE lot from the console version. Leveling took FOREVER and we never felt like we made it to the "endgame". We couldn't figure out where it was. At one point the quests weren't leveling us up enough, and we're gatekept in the story. Nothing gave us exp, so we had to grind elephants in a pond in Navarra desert for hours, which everyone also seemed to be doing. After that, we continued the story, which started to feel repititive and samey, and reached around level 40, which was near the final zone at the time. Then everything kinda dulled down. I guess now I realize that was the endgame, and that's where we stopped. I had fun with the co-op and open world battles, the combat and classes had nice depth to them. Unfortunately the story was nothing spectacular and the quests started to just suck towards our end. Lastly, the gear upgrading system, although we didn't really go deep into it, was just 100% bad with weapons possibly breaking, having to use an expensive/rare item to repair, etc. I think after we tried that system, that was our final straw.

Some fun things to note: The lv26 guy at 11:55 his name is "too lazy to come up with a name 233" or "cbfwithname233" and what I can only maybe imagine is his guild(?) name above it is named similarly "cbfwithname" The Lv17 archer's name at 36:54 is "Hey look there's an arrow over there" All the names appear to be Chinese Combat is pretty much Vindictus with right left combos and the occasional skill use Opening segment reminds me of Tera's original opening segment too where the game threw you in with a level 20 version of your class to kind of show what it can do (but never really explained how to use stuff so it confused the shit out of a lot of people) Otherwise this just feels like another soulless KMMO where they just keep rushing you along the main quest and keep doing what the game tells you to like the world's most boring rollercoaster ride where you get off now and then and an attendant comes and takes your hand to lead you to another, equally boring rollercoaster.

I'm almost curious about your notes for this, and how many names you came up with for Bless. That was impressive 👏 I always appreciate the witticism and insights you work into the videos. The thought provoking commentary and feedbacks that would legitimately improve things for the bulk of player bases. Even more so because in a lot of these games, the reasons I stopped playing them (like bless uncharted here) are things you address. Mechanically or narratively. Things that even if they sort of work at their core, really ruin immersion and personal attachments to anything going on. (That bit about enchanting was lovely, as well as the 4th edition comment) "The world's strongest bit of rope" was great. It reminded me of your comment in Otherland about returning to the scientists (Darya?) cleavage. Even down to the comment about being a teacher and basically traumatizing the kids to settle their problems. Never change Josh, you beautiful genius

Bless Unleashed...I loved it in the early betas and server tests. It was so good. Everyone was working TOGETHER, if someone tried to PVP, all of us PVE players would chase them down. We had ridiculous amounts of people fighting huge overleveled bosses. I was a healer when I played the beta, so I was in the backlines of the big boss fights, keeping everyone alive. Meanwhile the DPS and Tanks were reviving the healers that got knocked out. People actively chatted about THE GAME in the chat, and not JUST trading or insults. It was a ton of fun, it felt like the kinda thing I WANT out of an MMO. Everyone treating the game world with respect, and acting like they belong in the world...not running around with glowy pink outfits with 40ft glowing wings, and weird player built houses that don't fit, or people losing their mind at someone in chat. Almost everyone I came across was chill, and willing to cooperate and work together. It was amazing. But then the full game released. Pretty much ANY sense of community went out the window, and Open-World PvP became a huge annoyance. It just felt like every other MMO I've tried where...it just feels like a long series of THINGS happening, forced PvP ruining PvE player's fun, and the player characters look about as out of place as sticking a Lego character in a Call of Duty campaign. The big downside to me watching this video though, is now I wanna go back and give this game another shot. Except, I'm pretty sure the servers shut down not long ago. Which is kinda sad, because as a GAME, I really enjoyed it. Mechanically, the whole thing just felt good to me. It was really just the playerbase that ruined the fun. And that's not even something I can blame them for, or get mad at them for. When I say a lot of what I disliked about Blessed is how the playerbase was, with the PvP, and just...not trying to even attempt to fit into the world, I'm not saying that to mean "I dislike those people, how dare they ruin my experience." I 100% understand that my not liking what they did, is entirely my own opinion, and my own problem. I just don't really like that stuff, and it made the game less fun for me. If anything, I'd blame the game before the players, for even allowing it. -- It's also sad watching you fight that 11:00 wolf boss, almost by yourself. Back in beta and early launch, you couldn't walk past that wolf without seeing at least 15 other players kicking the absolute shit out of it every single time it respawned. -- I remember that ghost warden fight, it WAS pretty fun. I was lucky enough to do it with like 3-4 other players with me that just happened to be there at the same time.

@@shinon748 You would appreciate the _Monster Manual 3_ and _Monster Vault_ books, then. The authors realized that people wanted shorter, more-intense fights (the idea had been "let monsters have enough turns to do cool stuff," but people weren't keen on the long fights that resulted), so the monster math from MM3 onward was recalculated. Lower defenses, lower HP, higher damage--monsters in general became much more threatening, while combats became faster (especially if you had a Warlord or Shaman to grant lots of attacks.) The "MM3 on a business card" came into existence for that reason, the new monster math was generally very well-received.

i remember having a blast playing this game with my friends back when it launched. Its a bit sad to see it in the state that its in right now. Back when it launched everything you'd do in game would be fun. The world bosses were crowded with players at the time and since no one knew the boss' mechanics you could see 100 people die instantly by a single swing from that crow lady boss. The pvp was skilled based , meaning , it was balanced and there was no auto aim , which for me as a mage player back then was pretty hard (im not known for my good aim|). All in all it was a decent game that happened to launch in an unlucky timing , as new world was gonna launch the next few months after this one did.

@@supergeno128ds I only played the JP server so I haven't been back to the game. PSO2 has the best combat of any MMO hands down, no contest. Every other MMO is pitifully clunky in the combat department. Problem is it demanded too much time. If you're not grinding you're not keeping up with your team. It was far better when it first came out and people were grinding all the maps for different reasons. They didn't spread the rewards across all maps well enough. So another consequence of not playing as much as a no lifer is that said no lifers aren't playing with you and your maps are totally dead.

Talking about story and the downward rollercoaster, I think FFXIV does it perfectly. Without spoiling anything, there's a balance between story threads; you do one story then you have to stop because you and your friends can't progress until something is done, so they send you to help someone else (that more often than not conveniently happens to pop up just as you finish the first thing, but we'll ignore that). And the writers do a great job making everything feel important. Combating an ancient race of dimension ripping mages? Amazing. Helping solve civil unrest? Amazing. Literally raiding a tomb for fun? Amazing. etc, etc. Villains feel humanized and you can relate and sympathize with the vast majority of them. The world has a noticeable equivalent exchange. Things usually can't just happen. They have to follow the worlds rules.

Hello, I'm one of those that say they enjoy Bless. I've mostly stopped playing when the developers switched but I have 600+ hours in it. First thing is that for some unknown reason the client automatically puts you in the Asia server, so that's more than likely why no one would respond. Secondly, and I hate to be the guy, the endgame dungeons when everyone is at the proper level are really fun with decent mechanics. And lastly, the forced pvp doesn't really happen. Its a wild lands type area where you can flag for open world pvp but from my experience I've only had it happen once of twice. But I compactly agree with what you were saying in how it has a lot of potential and it wastes most of it.
