There's another supermarket here called Waitrose, which is seen as a very "middle class" and relatively high end supermarket, and they'd pay more. By all accounts, I've heard it's actually a great place to work in comparison to other entry level jobs. When I was at uni, I worked as a cleaner and got £10.50 an hour. I think that most of these companies aren't targeting Americans but people from poorer countries immigrating to America for a "better" life. It's sad really. They're taking advantage of those less fortunate making them think "oh look! 15$ an hour! It's higher than the minimum wage in your country so it has to be better right????" Like for example in the Philippines the min wage is 10$ max. Per DAY not per hour. Per DAY. so coming from there you can easily see how people can see those jobs as really good and high paying.
@fresch43954 жыл бұрын
not even poor countries. In Germany "minimum wage" is 9€ an hour. Now that is, when you work on an hourly basis. Usually you get a fixed salary and then you easily get under that hourly minimum wage. that, and/or live in poor countries where this low wage in USD is actually a lot in their country. Minimum freelancer wage (any freelancer, I served pizzas for R$10,00/hour to buy a new laptop) per hour in Brazil is R$10,00 (BRL), which at the moment (13-August-2020) is around US$ 1.84. If someone works 8 hours a day from monday to friday (which is usually how much you work in a full time job), you get around R$1920 (around US$324), which is higher than a "work wallet signed job", which is a proper contract where you get worker's rights, like 13th salary (we get payed monthly in Brazil, and receive a 13th extra salary, if it is a "work wallet signed job"), right to vacations, etc. So there's been an increase in informal jobs here in Brazil for the last 2-4 years. Going back to the main point, even those jobs that look like low paying jobs for workers in developed countries, a US$5/hour is nearly the double of what a Jrs/interns get here in their first job. (Which is around R$12.50-17.50, US$2.30-3.20). Edit: I forgot to mention: "work wallet signed job" minimum wage is around R$1000/month, around U$183)

1:22, 40$ is terrible and sounds ridiculous for someone from the us. But correct me if I'm wrong but no company based in the US or any country which currency is dollar or euro would even consider paying 20$k to a junior engineer. The minimum wage in India is 13$ a month, meaning that a junior dev is making 3 times the minimum wage. I live in Peru, which minimum wage is 280$ x month, I'm an intern at a bank and make 320$ for 30hrs a week, when I graduate college the baseline salary for an engineer is 1000$ (3 times the minimum wage), a room costs around 150$ and transport 15$ a month, food would be 150$ a month top. My point is that salaries are adjusted to the country's currency, as I can buy an 8 slice pizza for 7$ from Dominos, while it cost me 22$ in the US.

I'm from India, so I can elaborate. Minimum wage in India is very low, but minimum wage here is like very shit-tier payment. An average college graduate in computer science or any other engineering field, even from tier 3 and tier 4, or even lower tier colleges can expect to make 3-4 LPA, that is 300k to 400k rupees per year at a mass recruiter company. Even complete garbage jobs pay like 80k rs a year. At even slightly better companies, one can get 700-800k rupees per year. Even decent internships pay like 80k-120k rupees if it's something like Ai/ML or just software dev for 3-4 months. These extremely low paying or no paying internships are quite predatory in nature.

Purchasing power isn't simply about the exchange rate. You need to actually look at the relative prices of goods too. Would be good to see how the salaries compare to the cost of living in the areas where they are based.

Minimum wage in Massachusetts has been $11 per hour for more than a year so they’re paying LESS than half minimum wage hahahaha
@alexfullalove96674 жыл бұрын
Tesco pay minimum wage which is different based on your age. It’s £4.55 if you’re under 18. £6.45 for 18-20 £8.20 from 20 - 25 and then £8.72 after that so yeah that job is literally giving you 28p more than adult minimum wage

Hey, Just want to say really liking this series, But if you can I would suggest also to show to best jobs available too. As you said you got a $18/hr job as a fresher. How did you get it? Where did you find these types of jobs? ... Something like that. Thank You.
@rugbyf0rlife4 жыл бұрын
You can rag on pay as much as you like. The difference between the employees and the employers is the employee asks "how much can i get paid." The employer asks "how much can I pay someone to create my product." The employee doesn't have the ingenuity or drive to go out and actually build something or outsource work to build something. Without "CEOs and Founders" there would be no jobs, because employees want to be GIVEN guaranteed work and pay. Of course people will want to be paid more, but the problem is... you are replaceable and if someone else will do it for cheaper, or work as an intern... then you are out of a job. It's a sad fact of life, but that's what you chose for yourself. To sit back and allow somebody else to set your value and offer for you to accept that valuation. You do that, instead of using your skills and money to develop your own products.

the workers are the ones who have to dictate their work conditions, salaries etc. not the owner, because WORKERS CREATE THE REAL VALUE business owner can have a multimillion, without worker to do the work, he has no power! he has the power BECAUSE worker give it to him !

The minimum salary (Govt mandated & required by labor law) in India for example for a unskilled farm worker (like picking fruit) is Rs 250/day (3.4 USD/day). It means with 20 days/month work it becomes Rs 5000 /Month (i,e $67/month). Rs. 3000 for a dev intern is disgraceful and basically nothing. May be its better to do a minimum wage job instead of such dev job as it will pay more.

Nearly every junior/intern job offer requires 2+ years of experience. If this is the first step in a job carrer, what am I supposed to do before? Slave job?
@arthuraguiar53824 жыл бұрын
@@nagyzoli thx... It made me more confident to ignore that "requirement"... Lazy HR is the worst, specially with the "Tony Stark requirements" of having 5+ years experience with 10-20 different programming languages (some of which are not that often used, like Cobol) or some that didn't even exist 5 years ago (I've seen this kind of requirements with React and Flutter, which is straightforward impossible)

It's pretty much asking a truck driver to have experience with stock car racing and farming vehicles as a requirement, and airplane experience as a "plus"
